St Marco Posted 18 March, 2018 Posted 18 March, 2018 you obviously didn’t go to newcastle To be fair Newcastle are a premier league side. Wigan are in the 3rd division. We played so bad at Newcastle but imo I don't see any difference in todays performance? Have we even had a shot at goal? I would take Carrillio off and maybe bring on Long. Hit some balls down the wings for him to chase. We just look so predictable right now.
Pilchards Posted 18 March, 2018 Posted 18 March, 2018 We are so weak in every aspect of the game. From passing, tackling, finding space on the ball and off it. Slow in decision making.....truly atrocious. Embarrassing. What I’d give for a scrappy 1-0 to us now. On this display we deserve to lose this game....go out the cup ....and eventually go down. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Spot on. Lack of confidence and fitness for starters. Then we have a long floating ball going towards Carlllo and Gabby is running on hoping for a flick on. That long ball is going straight to a centre back. Start of the second half Boufal and Tadic need to swap and then on 60th minute Redmond and Sims come on for Boufal and Tadic. Keep one sub back for extra time.
saint77 Posted 18 March, 2018 Posted 18 March, 2018 It’s clear to me that Pellegrino didn’t bother to keep the players aerobically fit Spot on
Miltonaggro Posted 18 March, 2018 Posted 18 March, 2018 This looks and feels like the fifth round match in 2008 when we lost 1-0 to Bristol Rovers and a tubby lad called Lambert scored - even the awful pitch, idiotic BBC commentary and biased officials are the same. Bound to be scrappy and nervous today, Hughes has only had two short training sessions with the team and has simply played his senior players in a 4-4-2 - at worst it’s an assessment exercise! A goal for saints could change everything and I think we will see Long on straight after halftime and he will rattle these defenders and keeper. Despite the nerves and creaming commentators I reckon we will sneak this - COYR!
whelk Posted 18 March, 2018 Posted 18 March, 2018 Everyone screaming for this line up. We are just sh1t. All of them bar Bertrand
doddisalegend Posted 18 March, 2018 Posted 18 March, 2018 They just showed a Wigan player in the highlights run 80+ yards without a single challenge on him...
Katalinic Posted 18 March, 2018 Posted 18 March, 2018 Perversely I think it is good Hughes is seeing it exactly how it has been all season - he will learn a lot about the players. A scrappy 1-0 will do.
OttawaSaint Posted 18 March, 2018 Posted 18 March, 2018 Hopefully Hughsie settles them down a bit. These are international players so should be used to playing different formations with different teammates. I think they are very nervous and really trying to impress but it is being manifested as nervousness. I know it well, when the team I play for plays the other team from our town in the league, the first 30 minutes are a shambles of overhit passes, misplaced passes and poor control. Once we calm down and stop being nervous about the game we start passing it around well and win it. (Not saying we are prem level or anything though, lol).
badgerx16 Posted 18 March, 2018 Posted 18 March, 2018 Is one of them really called Max Power? Max McCauley Power.
Greenridge Posted 18 March, 2018 Posted 18 March, 2018 Carrillo is like an on pitch version of Pellegrino. Get rid. Hoedt is a 16m Dutch Aaron Martin without basic footballing skills for a centre back. Get rid. Ross Wilson, take a bow. Harsh on Aaron Martin. Three of our four defenders are sheite. Not a great foundation for the team to build on.
northam soul Posted 18 March, 2018 Posted 18 March, 2018 Good to see we are keeping our no shots on target rule going
Manuel Posted 18 March, 2018 Posted 18 March, 2018 Max McCauley Power. Just bound to score. Header from a cross by Will Findyou.
Crab Lungs Posted 18 March, 2018 Posted 18 March, 2018 Harsh on Aaron Martin. Three of our four defenders are sheite. Not a great foundation for the team to build on. Very harsh, I agree. I’d rather Aaron Martin x100. It’s like watching Steven Caulker. 16m for this clown.
alpine_saint Posted 18 March, 2018 Posted 18 March, 2018 We really don't look any better but then Hughes was unlikely to make much difference after 2 days. Even more inexplicable therefore why Les left the change so f**king late. We dont even get the bounce other teams do.
stknowle Posted 18 March, 2018 Posted 18 March, 2018 We really don't look any better but then Hughes was unlikely to make much difference after 2 days. TBF you are probably right, at least we are attacking more but defensively you could actually make a decent case for us looking worse.
Pamplemousse Posted 18 March, 2018 Posted 18 March, 2018 At least our next game is against a team equally low on confidence
DrunkenSaint Posted 18 March, 2018 Posted 18 March, 2018 Problem when u play a 442 is that the midfield gets over run, that's why the 4231 formation was formed, to win the midfield battle. If you want to play with 2 strikers go with a 352 type of formation. Tadic and Boufal are useless, Gabbi and Carillo are no better its been the main reason why we have struggled for way over a year now, our attacking players are just not very good. I would of loved to see Sims and Mcqueen down the wings, least they have something to prove and would be more direct.
Saint Albert Posted 18 March, 2018 Posted 18 March, 2018 Wigan were the better side that half. We look light in the midfield. Carrillo has not done much, his first touch has been poor, and the Saints defenders look panicky at times. The team don’t look confident. Hopefully a better second half will follow.
angelman Posted 18 March, 2018 Posted 18 March, 2018 Let's just wait until the second half. Nothing was going to be achieved so quickly and just on the training ground. But boy, we did look ****. It can't get much worse.
5string Posted 18 March, 2018 Posted 18 March, 2018 Quote from the BBC text commentary: "Southampton are swaying on the ropes." Let's hope we can do a Muhammad Ali and punch (not literally) a couple of goals to finish it.
Saint Pete Posted 18 March, 2018 Posted 18 March, 2018 Perversely I think it is good Hughes is seeing it exactly how it has been all season - he will learn a lot about the players. A scrappy 1-0 will do. I agree. Anyone expecting any miraculous improvement in our style and performance today was kidding themselves. The best we can hope for is finding a way to win and Hughes using it as learning more about the capabilities or lack of of the players he has, which he can hopefully use in the next couple of weeks before West Ham.
Sheaf Saint Posted 18 March, 2018 Posted 18 March, 2018 It seems unfair to single out any one player after that horror show, but oh my days Cedric has been absolutely garbage. Just gifts Wigan an attacking opportunity every time the ball goes near him. In mitigation though, it's our first 45 mins in a new formation under a new manager, against an in-form team playing full of confidence who were obviously going to put us under plenty of pressure. I had no illusions that we would go out there and be dominant. My only hope is that Wigan won't be able to keep up the tempo and will burn themselves out. If it goes to ET then that might work in our favour.

Despite the nerves and creaming commentators I reckon we will sneak this - COYR! Absolutely spot on. I haven’t boo’d the team off since that day at Rovers a decade ago. If I was up there today I’d have boo’d that. I can handle us having mediocre players but good players being out worked, out fought, out thought by a team two divisions below with 4000 fans driving through snow to get there is pathetic. I barely care if we go through to the semi’s. Whole club top to bottom deserve relegation this season. Mercenaries. All of that said, I think we may sneak a 0-1 and have a semi at Wembley to look forward to. I wasn’t prepared to see our players look so complacent today. That must change to get a result. whelk Posted 18 March, 2018 Posted 18 March, 2018 Why do the BBC hate us so much? This Wilson fella is going to groan when we score
stknowle Posted 18 March, 2018 Posted 18 March, 2018 Nonsense. You didn't call me "pal" so I'll take that as constructive criticism.
Whitey Grandad Posted 18 March, 2018 Posted 18 March, 2018 Well if it's OK for Watford to do that then I don't see why not [emoji6] No VAR. Grab the opportunity with both hands.
doddisalegend Posted 18 March, 2018 Posted 18 March, 2018 Well Mark hasn't introduced a high press style Wigan players passing it about while saints players just stand and watch.
OttawaSaint Posted 18 March, 2018 Posted 18 March, 2018 Last attack was good. Shame Bertie’s cross was blocked. Gotta get the ball high for our heading specialist.
Heisenberg Posted 18 March, 2018 Posted 18 March, 2018 Our players seem to turn slower than a cruise ship
adrian lord Posted 18 March, 2018 Posted 18 March, 2018 Our players seem to turn slower than a cruise ship Many parallels with the Titanic...
5string Posted 18 March, 2018 Posted 18 March, 2018 Our players seem to turn slower than a cruise ship Even supertankers take 20 minutes. We've been passing backwards for 8 months!
Suhari Posted 18 March, 2018 Posted 18 March, 2018 Get Carrillo off A long way from being a £19m player!
doddisalegend Posted 18 March, 2018 Posted 18 March, 2018 Ok our good 5 minutes seem over Wigan back on the attack.
OttawaSaint Posted 18 March, 2018 Posted 18 March, 2018 Hughsie has his work cut out to get us good enough to beat West Ham in 2 weeks time.
