Players ignoring managers tactics

Very interesting listening to TalkSPORT this morning where they discussed Chris Brunt questioning the managers tactics and getting the players on his side to change things.

Mickey Gray said it’s happening all over the country which got me thinking.

Has it happened at anytime that you can recall while watching a Saints game?

I remember during the Branfoot days that players used to ignore him and actually passed the ball about while he would be waving his arms about to pump it long.

Shocking football and if it was not for Le Tiss we would of been relegated every season with Branfoot in charge.

I was watching our Cup win at WBA via stream. Around about the 70th and 80th minutes the camera focused on MP (from behind). Couldn't hear what he was saying but he was out in his technical area clearly agitated and pointing back into our own half, to me he was indicating we should be dropping back and sit on our lead.

Both times Cedric was the nearest player to him. Within a minute or so of each, Cedric first when on an attacking run to the corner flag and the second time a diagonal run that left him in the centre forward position before the move broke down. Can't say for sure he was defying orders but it sure looked that way to me.

How can any player respect Pardew??? I know Pelelgrino is hated by many on here but I'm sure our players have a lot more respect fror him than West Brom players have for Pardew.

The influence of managers is overrated. A lot of the 'old school' managers like Redknapp, Pardew and Allardyce, mainly had influence through who they bought in the transfer market, and then just told the players to get on with it out on the pitch. Redknapp spent most training sessions standing on the sideline talking into his phone and occasionally yelling expletives at the players but still managed to be the most successful manager of the modern era for Portsmouth and took them to two cup finals just through his activity in the transfer market. I doubt Pardew and Allardyce do much more and, to be fair, we are grateful to Pardew for buying Lambert and Fonte. Even a 'modern' manager like Klopp, is mainly successful because he has bought players of the calibre of Salah, Mane and van Dijk.
