Pilchards Posted 16 February, 2018 Posted 16 February, 2018 I saw a photo of Steve Williams yesterday on Facebook and it got me thinking. Which ex Saints players were better known at Saints rather than the clubs they moved from or too? Will start with James Beattie, certainly better known for us although he went on to good things with Blackburn.
RedWillie Posted 16 February, 2018 Posted 16 February, 2018 Danny Wallace. Great for us but flopped at Man Utd possibly due to his deteriorating health (MS sadly). Believe he may have made a few appearances for Birmingham later as well. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Dellman Posted 16 February, 2018 Posted 16 February, 2018 Ron Davies was a world beater with us but didn't do it at Man U and then somewhere else
Window Cleaner Posted 16 February, 2018 Posted 16 February, 2018 (edited) Ron Davies was a world beater with us but didn't do it at Man U and then somewhere else But he was past 30 when he went there so he was right at the ass end of his career anyway. Went to Millwall afterwards I think. Channon is the classic example, always known for his Saints days and the other clubs just don't matter. Graham Baker might be the same. niceandfriendly Posted 16 February, 2018 Posted 16 February, 2018 Where did he go afterwards? Everton then Stoke. Maybe another, Sheffield United maybe?
sfc4prem Posted 16 February, 2018 Posted 16 February, 2018 Rickie Lambert (Happy birthday). Did brilliantly at Brizzle Rovers and had a fair few clubs but best known for his brilliance at Saints!
Dimond Geezer Posted 16 February, 2018 Posted 16 February, 2018 Mick Channon thought he could better himself at Man City before coming back home, dabbled with Norwich & the Skates too.
Kenilworthy Posted 16 February, 2018 Posted 16 February, 2018 Mick Channon thought he could better himself at Man City before coming back home, dabbled with Norwich & the Skates too. Also Newcastle and Bristol Rovers. And he did win a medal with Norwich.
East Kent Saint Posted 16 February, 2018 Posted 16 February, 2018 Saw an old Big Match where Mick Channon ran the game for Man City he looked quality for them !
Pilchards Posted 16 February, 2018 Author Posted 16 February, 2018 Luke Shaw... I would debate that as he only had one great season with us. What about Steve Williams as so many people say Arsenal yet I don’t recall what he did there?

Disco Stu Posted 16 February, 2018 Posted 16 February, 2018 Antti Niemi. Incredible keeper, probably my favourite for us. Loved to make every stop spectacular (sometimes unnecessarily ) - did well for Fulham but surely better known for his time with us. Shame about that small blemish on his CV though.

Hearts fans loved him probably as much as us. Was a great keeper for them too.

Most people would say Leeds for Wallace I'd think. Kenna at Blackburn won the title Wright for Liverpool and Derby Ruddock, Liverpool or Spurs Dowie well known for Luton or West Ham but played more games for Saints than them combined. kwsaint Posted 16 February, 2018 Posted 16 February, 2018 Taking a different approach to the thread. How many ex-Saints players are there in the Premier League? Liverpool: Lallana, Lovren, Clyne, Van Dyck, Mane, Oxlade-Chamberlain Everton: Schneiderlin, Martina, Walcott Man United: Shaw Burnley: Cork Stoke: Crouch West Brom: Rodrigues Swansea: Dyer Bournemouth: Boruc, Surman Palace: Puncheon West Ham: Fonte, Antonio Spurs: Wanyama, Alderweireld Bound to have missed someone. That's 21 players, the majority of who made their Premier League debut with Saints in the past 5 years. No wonder we are in a mess

Dowse is probably best known for that magnificent header into his own net when he was at West Ham v Stockport. Probably helped Dave Jones get the Saints job along with knocking Saints out next. Would love to have heard Redknapp’s reaction though!
Stud mark of doom Posted 16 February, 2018 Posted 16 February, 2018 Gareth Bale? I know that’s a joke but, slightly more seriously, Theo Walcott never really became anything like the player he looked like he would be in his six months with us.

ericofarabia Posted 17 February, 2018 Posted 17 February, 2018 Alan Shearer's career went downhill after leaving us
Nordic Saint Posted 17 February, 2018 Posted 17 February, 2018 Isn't Callum Chambers still at Arsenal? Yes, he was out for a long time with a hip injury but he's played in a few Premier League and Champions League games recently including the full 90 minutes in their Champions League game this week.
OldNick Posted 17 February, 2018 Posted 17 February, 2018 Wallace never won the Premier League with Spurs, Leeds or anyone.good spot Letsbe, but he won league with Leeds to be fair to the poster
