LGTL Posted 3 February, 2018 Share Posted 3 February, 2018 We were much the better team after the first 20 minutes, 2-3 definitely flattered them. So frustrating because that group of players aren't as bad as our position makes our. Lemina has to play every game now, no arguments. Almost single handedly dragged us back into it. Jonnyboy Posted 3 February, 2018 Share Posted 3 February, 2018 Give it a rest. Another penalty decision away from 4-2. Sorry you're so disappointed. Clearly not a Saints fan. Sent from my Pixel using Tapatalk Lol. I'm very happy with 3 points. But by half the reactions by the usual suspects we've gone from a 0/10 side/club to a 10/10 one who will now push on to 7th/8th. whelk Posted 3 February, 2018 Share Posted 3 February, 2018 Well that's his first 90 mins since Huddersfield so, no, but mostly because, Spurs game aside, he's hardly played. Some cracking insight though. So lemina has been superb all season and the clown dropped him. Plum
derry Posted 3 February, 2018 Share Posted 3 February, 2018 I'm absolutely delighted and relieved. I still think this is not our best team. Hojbjerg has had several man of the match games and with Lamina and Romeu would give us a strong midfield and allow Lamina more freedom to get forward and that's two that can shoot. Stephens defends like a pussy at dead balls in the goalmouth but his goals are critical for us as he has the knack in the box. Hoedt needs to do something about his studs because he is slipping over too often for me at critical times. We are not good in the last half hour with the aerial threat and give too many free kicks away in dangerous areas. Carillo looked a good centre forward and would have had a goal from good positioning if Tadic could use his right foot. He worked hard and won some good balls in the air but needed another striker off him, Gabbiadini could blossom close to him. Boufal looked good today but I wish he wouldn't play casual passes in the last half hour when we are under the cosh. Tadic had a chance today but had neither the strikers instinct or pace to finish. He is a classy player at times and better on the left. I don't think Pellegrino did anything wrong today and although a little late made the right substitutions. I was praying he wouldn't bring Davis on. The team played well but still didn't have a real cutting edge up front. We still scored from two set pieces and a long shot. JWP had a decent game and his free kick was clever. We need more performances like this. Make Bertrand team captain.
Sheaf Saint Posted 3 February, 2018 Share Posted 3 February, 2018 Enjoy... https://goalsplanet.com/west-brom-vs-southampton-2-3-highlights-premier-league/ Was a clear shirt pull from Hegazi before their first goal.
trousers Posted 3 February, 2018 Share Posted 3 February, 2018 JWP is really starting to live up to his ‘dead ball specialist’ tag. Assist with his corner for Stephens goal and that beauty of a free kick! Seems to have improved his overall game as well, no longer lightweight and won’t get bullied off the ball. Our boy has finally grown up this season! Liking him on the right wing.. I'm going to stick my neck out and predict that JWP makes the England world cup squad.... SaintTex Posted 3 February, 2018 Share Posted 3 February, 2018 Long should have made it 4-2, how a pro can miss from there is unfathomable.Yeah, that should have been in the back of the net, but at least it didn't cost us points, unlike ManCity today Did you see Sterling's missed sitter?! trousers Posted 3 February, 2018 Share Posted 3 February, 2018 Lol at the mania on here. One penalty decision away from a draw. derry Posted 3 February, 2018 Share Posted 3 February, 2018 I just don't know why when attacking a cross none of our players look to head the ball down. It's fundamental. There can't be any guidance otherwise they would be doing it. All Long had to do today was head the ball down and back across the goal, if it hits the ground it usually bounces over the diving keeper.

hypochondriac Posted 3 February, 2018 Share Posted 3 February, 2018 Absolutely huge result so well done saints. Still slight concern that we had to score 3 in order to get the win and still some nervy times (I'd give a lot for a boring 2-0!) but a win is a win. We badly need to build on this result, show some adventure and prove this isn't just a false dawn but the good news is we are out of the relegation zone for now. Huge month or so coming up. edprice1984 Posted 3 February, 2018 Share Posted 3 February, 2018 First 10 minutes Baggies seemed to feed off the atmosphere and occasion and we were rabbits in the headlights. Romeu in particular was struggling and made two or three bad mistakes. Then we got the ball down and played a little and you could feel the goal was going to come. Carillo was very good, held it up, battled made space for others. Lemina was just awesome. On train back to Gloucester and loving my first Premier League away win ever! COYR!!!! Not sure if it was picked up on TV but Boufal was trying to wrestle the ball off JWP for the free kick, he then turned round to the away fans and shushed us, Lemina went over had a word and Boufal instantly apologised. But played to support an out-and-out striker or come on late to provide the pacy threat of a breakaway, he's a useful squad member. qwertyell Posted 3 February, 2018 Share Posted 3 February, 2018 McCarthy: 7 - calm presence. One very decent save from Brunt's free kick. I wonder if he could've come for one or both of the crosses that led to their goals. Maybe that's a Dave Watson thing... Cedric: 6 - worked the line up and down all day long. Can't cross to save his life. Bertrand: 6 - relatively solid, but a bit more petulant an indisciplined than usual. Lucky not to concede a penalty. Stephens: 6 - does some things really well, some adequately, some quite poorly. Easily outfoxed again from a corner to lose his man, who scored, and was possibly fortunate Burke tried to stay on his feet after having his ankle clipped going through on goal. But he defended quite well in general, won a few headers even and, of course, scored a great header. Hoedt: 6 - not dissimilar to Stephens. Mostly good (a cracking surging run leading to the free kick for our third goal), but didn't cover himself in glory on Rondon's headed goal. Neither of our CBs are good in the air (and nor is Yoshida, in reserve). It's an issue. Romeu: 5 - actually got outpaced by Gareth Barry at one point. I didn't think that was even possible. Combative as usual, but he still looks out of sorts to me. Lemina: 9 - a top 4 player in a bottom 4 showdown. He had it all going on: pace, power and drive going in both directions, and the technical ability to twist away from trouble. Foot like a traction engine too. Ward-Prowse: 7 - increasingly not a passenger. High work-rate, used the ball efficiently, a goal and an assist. Promising. Tadic: 7 - I thought he was engaged and proactive all day. Would've preferred to see him down the left and crossing more. Boufal: 6 - tried a lot. And most of it didn't come off. Great feet in tight quarters, but his hot-headedness came to the fore in a kick out at Nyom that thankfully went unpunished, and carried on like a pork chop over the Prowse FK. Carrillo: 6 - he did all right. Not 19 million quid's worth of all right, but when the alternative is non-footballer Shane Long, what can you do?
