MongoNeil Posted 3 February, 2018 Share Posted 3 February, 2018 May have saved the season. But 4 points from this and Brighton was the minimum required to stay up. Not out of the woods yet by any means. We've got a tough few weeks coming up now and could well be back in the bottom three after that!
redkeith Posted 3 February, 2018 Share Posted 3 February, 2018 Great performance from everyone . What a difference it makes to have the ball stick up front. Only criticism would be Hoedt's marking for the first goal, and Cedric's crossing in the first half. Lemina Mom by a nose from JWP. That looked like a team out there, and the way we kept the ball in the corners at the end to run the clock down was great.
austsaint Posted 3 February, 2018 Share Posted 3 February, 2018 Pellegrino who drops Lemina needs to thank him for keeping his job. What a player as he keeps the team attacking rather than turning it back for some dull passing along the back. Yes, he's both a holding and attacking midfielder - if only we had some pace in the team there would be more goal scoring chances. Didn't Redmond look hacked off when he came on? S-Clarke Posted 3 February, 2018 Share Posted 3 February, 2018 We won a game, what the actual? I think the scoreline probably flattered WBA in the end, we were far better than them all over the pitch. There is still the worry that we can't deal with physical players in the box and we're going to face bigger than Rondon again this season, so we need to shape up on that - although I don't think we have the players to do that as we sold them all off, so let's just attack the oppo. We played higher, were quicker through the lines and played with higher risk, and with risk comes reward and that's what happend. Carrillo will make a difference simply because he's a focal point, he won a fair bit in the air today and it enabled the rest of the team to push up. Tadic needs to stay close to him and it will be like the Pelle days. The main frustration we've all had is we know we have the talent in the team in certain areas, but for whatever reason we haven't been showing it. Today was the first time we had, our big players such as Lemina and Boufal came to the party today and that's how it needs to stay.
richardc Posted 3 February, 2018 Share Posted 3 February, 2018 Amazing what the threat of the sack can do - never sat back at the end and the players seemed to play with a lot more freedom doing tricks etc - Boufal actually seemed to enjoy playing today Lemina is going to be some amazing player
Saint Pete Posted 3 February, 2018 Share Posted 3 February, 2018 Phew!!! Puts 6 points between us and West Brom and gives us a chance of staying up. Still a massive amount to do though given our remaining fixtures. Not sure what this means manager wise. If it was right to sack MP before today does it make it wrong now just because we've squeaked out a win at the bottom club? redkeith Posted 3 February, 2018 Share Posted 3 February, 2018 Hoedt? Wasn't that Stephens? Not sure, as I had a bein sports feed, so I wasn't paying much attention to the Arabic commentary. Whoever it was needs to keep their hands of his shirt and go shoulder to shoulder instead. PS Why wasn't Barry given a second yellow for the 3rd goal free kick ? Saint Fan CaM Posted 3 February, 2018 Share Posted 3 February, 2018 SFC Board : MoPe, please ensure you play your best players, or it's the door. MoPe: Who are my best players? SFC Board : WTF? Ask Kelvin. Lemina was fantastic - for a DM he has some great skills and moves forward with the ball with confidence. And the goal was sublime - if only we had some attacking players that could do that! Make no mistake - we may be 14th, but we are still heavily embroiled in a relegation struggle and with the next game anything but easy, we could very well find ourselves back in the drop zone again. Is now a good time to change the Manager? Probably not in the eyes of Reed.

Wes Tender Posted 3 February, 2018 Share Posted 3 February, 2018 That was one of the longest 95 minutes I can remember. Thank God for our strikers Stephens and Ward-Prowse and a fantastic goal from Lemina. A shame that our defending leaves much to be desired. But I'm quite happy to score more than we concede, although I'm not sure my nerves will stand it. For once I thought Pellegrino got the tactics more or less right, although I would have liked to see Gabbiadini come on instead of Long, if he wasn't to start with Guido. Lemina MOTM, so why hasn't he been picked for the last couple of matches? Honourable mention to Cedric for getting up and down well and some very good crosses into the box. Stephens and Hoedt fairly solid apart from with high balls. Romeu and Bertrand OK apart from giving away silly free kicks right near the edge of the box. Boufal and Tadic were a handful. I liked the intent of Boufal wanting to take the free kick, but J W-P did a good job with his set-piece goal and is getting better with them. Good to see Boufal be the first to congratulate him. We need to builld on the confidence boost this will give us, but we should have beaten Brighton too and been a further couple of points up the table. But when are any of our strikers going to get a goal?

Vancouver Saint Posted 3 February, 2018 Share Posted 3 February, 2018 Well I did not see that coming after going 0-1 down. Lemina just immense - a total class player. Great result Saints. whelk Posted 3 February, 2018 Share Posted 3 February, 2018 Would be nice if we can leave this thread for the people who want to enjoy the result rather than going on about MP out etc There are other threads for that. Brilliant performance and reminded me of the old days when we used to put in performances like that to stay up every season. Lemina the obvious MOTM. His pace and positivity through middle today was class. V pleased for JWP, he's stepping up when it counts. Indeed. So we play decent and it’s all about blaming him for not playing like that last time. Lemina was brilliant today but let’s not kid ourselves he hasn’t been playing like that recently. max_saints Posted 3 February, 2018 Share Posted 3 February, 2018 Lots of praise for Lemina and rightly so, constantly driving the team forward + that belter to kick start the team. JWP is really starting to live up to his ‘dead ball specialist’ tag. Assist with his corner for Stephens goal and that beauty of a free kick! Seems to have improved his overall game as well, no longer lightweight and won’t get bullied off the ball. Our boy has finally grown up this season! Liking him on the right wing. Cabrone Posted 3 February, 2018 Share Posted 3 February, 2018 Massive massive win, great performance and well deserved, we didn't fluke that. Just goes to show that we have the players if our idiot of a manager actually picks them and lets them play. It's incredible that we are where we are. I'm wondering if the players are pretty much ignoring the manager's gibberish instructions and just going for it?? Wouldn't blame them if they did. Lemina should be the first name on the sheet, a complete general and when he's in the team we instantly improve. Play him in every game from now on you dolt. Carillo didn't have too many chances but just by being a proper CF he provided a focal point and gave the West Brom defence something to worry about, give him the service and I suspect he'll get you some goals. Long on the other hand is stealing a forward place, he was given just about as gilded a chance as he's ever going to get and he missed it. To think he's been consistently picked above Charlie and Gabbi goes a long way to explaining why we are where we are. Play like this till the end of the season and we'll be clear of relegation but will the manager actually pick the best players??
