Heisenberg Posted 31 January, 2018 Posted 31 January, 2018 Appreciate the window hasn't "slammed shut" but given my confidence of the management im fairly confident it will be another cluster **** and disappointment. If we do somehow deliver Promes id go with a cheeky 5/10. Without you'd have to go 1/10 absolute disaster (again) Tick tock Leslie
Batman Posted 31 January, 2018 Posted 31 January, 2018 Too early for this.why. the window has been open for 30 days and shuts in 12 hours
Disco Stu Posted 31 January, 2018 Posted 31 January, 2018 why. the window has been open for 30 days and shuts in 12 hours So much can happen in the last 12 hours that my rating would go from 0 to potentially 10.
Batman Posted 31 January, 2018 Posted 31 January, 2018 So much can happen in the last 12 hours that my rating would go from 0 to potentially 10.direction of travel is that promes will not be joining We only agreed a fee to sell VvD at Christmas ffs
S-Clarke Posted 31 January, 2018 Posted 31 January, 2018 So much can happen in the last 12 hours that my rating would go from 0 to potentially 10. As much as I admire your optimisim, I don't see a huge deal happening for us! 0.5-1 for me. Would go to a 5 if we signed Quincy, but we do still need a CB with power. We've basically sold our best CB for £75m and haven't replaced him.
Give it to Ron Posted 31 January, 2018 Posted 31 January, 2018 We have already been told its quiet one = expect a few outgoings to ease the bill - u23's
hypochondriac Posted 31 January, 2018 Posted 31 January, 2018 With promes it's a 7. We may get a lesser alternative and that would probably be 5 or 6 depending on who it is. Without promes or a replacement it's a 2...
Batman Posted 31 January, 2018 Posted 31 January, 2018 still need an obvious CB. Just a weird club now.
Saints foreva Posted 31 January, 2018 Posted 31 January, 2018 0 at present. This. We were told by the club leaks to the press that selling VvD was to improve the squad. As it stands we are far weaker than we were before selling Van Dijk.
trousers Posted 31 January, 2018 Posted 31 January, 2018 (edited) We won't know the impact of a 'quiet' window until March/April time. So I'll wait until then rather than making an arbitrary "glad to have been proven wrong in hindsight" or "told you so" guess now. Call me old fashioned. Edited 31 January, 2018 by trousers
Ashby Saint Posted 31 January, 2018 Posted 31 January, 2018 With a few hours to go, my assessment would be a 3/10. Positives were selling Van Dyk, keeping everyone else, and buying a striker that on paper fits the mould of a target man/finisher. Negatives were not having a Plan B for signing Promes and not replacing Van Dyk in the squad with a commanding CB.
supersonic Posted 31 January, 2018 Posted 31 January, 2018 As we stand now, I’d say 2/10. We’ve sold our best player, who despite not wanting to be here is world-class, and we haven’t replaced him. I still think Hoedt was the Fonte replacement. We have managed to fill a gap with Carrillo but we’ve put all our eggs in the Promes basket and have been left short again. Second January window in succession the board’s naïvety and ignorance has made our squad weaker. Reed simply has to go.
Heisenberg Posted 31 January, 2018 Author Posted 31 January, 2018 Remember when Everton won the last window with all those amazing signings to challenge for the top 4. Who said that? #nobody
Saint-Reece Posted 31 January, 2018 Posted 31 January, 2018 0. Being stuck marooned in the Championship for a good few years will be thrilling.
shurlock Posted 31 January, 2018 Posted 31 January, 2018 Who said that? #nobody Spot on pal. People were scratching their head at Everton’s transfer strategy of stocking up on AMs and neglecting a replacement for Lukaku
derry Posted 31 January, 2018 Posted 31 January, 2018 Unless we bring in a quick goal scoring attacker it will be a disaster as all the teams around us have had no trouble strengthening.
Baird of the land Posted 31 January, 2018 Posted 31 January, 2018 Personally i rate Stephens, always thought Hoedt was the Van Dijk replacement, so i'm pretty ok with no centre back additions. up front. Hard to rate until we see Carrillo in action. I've got a bad feeling he's going to be a highly expensive flop. So if he is & we don't address the pace issue at the top of the pitch a 0.

angelman Posted 31 January, 2018 Posted 31 January, 2018 Most of you seem not to be buying into the "Southampton Way".

He's a good ball playing CB, but needs strength and power alongside him. He is bullied by powerful strikers because he lacks the strength and phyisical attributes. No one is saying he's a bad player, but the problem is we have CB's all in the same mould.
alpine_saint Posted 31 January, 2018 Posted 31 January, 2018 1/10. Carillo is our single transfer in, and hes a totally unknown quantity. 4/10 if Promes comes. Finally compensating for the awful Mane....er.....Redmond. 8/10 if a CB suddenly pops up.

I would say Hoedt is very different in mould and i'm much happier with Stephens/Hoedt pairing than Stephens/Yoshida one.
Saint_Ash Posted 31 January, 2018 Posted 31 January, 2018 Currently 2/10 If Promes comes 7/10 If another player of quality on top 9/10
richardc Posted 31 January, 2018 Posted 31 January, 2018 10/10 We were n't asking you Les now get back and sign someone
Saint Garrett Posted 31 January, 2018 Posted 31 January, 2018 Right now 1/10. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro
James Posted 31 January, 2018 Posted 31 January, 2018 1-2/10 at best at the moment. Utterly pathetic.
Lighthouse Posted 31 January, 2018 Posted 31 January, 2018 2/10 Mostly because of the CB situation. A decent replacement for Virgil and it would have been 7. Promes or another attacking player of similar quality also needed for the full house.
ashnats Posted 31 January, 2018 Posted 31 January, 2018 Given we’re still in the window, and assuming we get a couple in, and get rid of a couple, 9/10
Norm Posted 31 January, 2018 Posted 31 January, 2018 At present, 3/10 signing at good CB, 6/10 signing a good forward/Winger, 8/10

Pilchards Posted 31 January, 2018 Posted 31 January, 2018 Just seen a long black vehicle going into staplewood. The driver was all suited and booted and had a couple of passengers who looked very smartly dressed.

angelman Posted 31 January, 2018 Posted 31 January, 2018 Long black vehicle.....first thing that came to mind was a hearse + undertakers!!
John Boy Saint Posted 31 January, 2018 Posted 31 January, 2018 Long black vehicle.....first thing that came to mind was a hearse + undertakers!! ........... I thought Chinese Triad hit men.
Supersubpuckett Posted 31 January, 2018 Posted 31 January, 2018 The saying about breweries and heavy drinking springs to mind.......again Just need to wait for the statement about how we've concluded our business for this window.
Batman Posted 31 January, 2018 Posted 31 January, 2018 1/10 les.reed is no better than Rupert Lowe. Lowe at least left us with a new ground
Unbelievable Jeff Posted 31 January, 2018 Posted 31 January, 2018 Honestly I'd be very disappointed at this moment in time, but then it may turn out that all we needed was a **** striker, so it may change by the end of the season. The only positive I can see out of this window was the 28/1 I got on Saints going down at the beginning of the season.
Shance Posted 31 January, 2018 Posted 31 January, 2018 This has been the worst window since promotion. We knew VVD was going and we haven’t replaced him. We knew we needed a right sided attacker and we have failed to sign one. We are ****ed.
Dusic Posted 31 January, 2018 Posted 31 January, 2018 2/10 - pathetic. Sold our best player, hinted through favoured Journalists at various targets and got nowhere near any of them. Delusional leadership. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/football/2017/12/28/southampton-keen-daniel-sturridge-ready-make-audacious-move/ "After selling Virgil van Dijk to Liverpool for £75 million on Wednesday, Southampton want to reinvest quickly and add quality to their squad, with the attacking positions and centre-back their two priorities. A list of targets are being considered or actively worked upon and, with manager Mauricio Pellegrino desperate to add pace, power and goals to his team, one of the most intriguing names is Liverpool’s Sturridge." End result: Sturridge went to a relegation rival and we didn'!t really address the other bits. If we get relegated, the club deserve it. Shambolic management in various forms over the last 2 years.
