Huddersfield players don'e seem to think it was intentional based on their reactions.

Looked to me like quite a few having words with Austin while goalie getting treatment. Manager also had his say.

In the same way, none of our players challenged Vardy after his stamp on VVD. Means nothing. Their players weren't close enough to see the incident.

Hard to defend that from Austin, but if I was trying to, the keeper spills the ball just as he is running past, and I wonder if sticking the foot out is an instinctive reaction to seeing the ball coming loose.

That being said, even if the intention wasn’t to kick the keeper, I’m not sure you can excuse it, need to be more responsible.

Redmond AGAIN, ****!

Getting into some great positions but his first touch takes him back into trouble almost every time.

no confidence. probably good in training.

I don't think Austin was actually trying to hurt the keeper. Was probably more "collateral damage". No idea why though since the keeper had both hands on it so even if he'd won the ball it'd have been disallowed anyway.

Redmond's decision making is really, really poor. Some good chances to make it two have gone the way that they usually do with Saints. Still, I'd have taken 1-0 at half time after that shambolic start.

Lucky to be winning to be honest.

Not really we aren't great but we have been the better team. Having Stephens and Targett at fullback has left us with no pace out wide which is telling. Tadic is also having a poor game maybe time to stick Boufal in behind Austin.

Redmond needs to played on the right. He is working hard out there but has no left foot and it shows.

Because he specialises in cutting inside. Some wingers (Townsend is another one) have to be played on their weaker side so they can shift the ball onto their weaker foot and have the option of the shot, the through ball or the overlap. Remember the one he scored AGAINST us a few years ago at Norwich?

I can’t think of a player in the squad that I wouldn’t want in the starting 11 instead of Redmond. He’s a total deadweight and the manager needs to go, just for the clearly poor judgement involved in playing him.

OK, winning at half time. We are at home to Huddersfield, so that should be the case......I am normally one of the happiest of clappers, but we still need to get through the second half and whatever happens next I will still be uninspired. I simply can't imagine that we will improve significantly from where we are now.

I hope I'm wrong.

Tadic and Redmond really look poor, Targett looks invisible. Most of Austin's touches have come from dropping back into midfield (where is Tadic?). I'd bring on Boufal for Targett and Romeu for Redmond.

Hoj & Bouf on for Red & Tad would be my request.

Save the 3rd sub for later (Gabbi for Austin?)

Agree, but it won't happen. I still don't see the point of JWP wide right either - yes, yes, his corners are good.

But that's my point/defence, is that the keeper did have both hands, so Austin doesn't make a challenge, and then the ball starts to slip out. Having not thought there was anything on, and then seeing the ball starting to move in the corner of his eye, maybe he instinctively reacted by putting his foot out.

I mean, even writing that feels like clutching at straws, and irrespective of the reason, you can't simply kick someone in the face.

Edit: watching the replay, I think the reason I give would stand up if he had 'flicked' his foot out into Lossl's face, but it's a weird movement, looks deliberate. Not sure what he was thinking...

I absolutely agree. He should be banned. No need for it whatsoever. I just think, in Austin's mind there was probably something that told him he could get the ball and score. I just think he'd try and hurt the keeper on purpose. I think it was a rush of blood to the head rather than just malicious.
