Saints v Leicester Thread

He quite clearly didn't do it on purpose.

No professional footballer (other than outright thugs like Keane), would go out with the intent to severely injury another professional.

It was late and a bit naughty but there is no way, he tried to hurt him... Nothing will happen, all water under the bridge.

I disagree. There are plenty of people who go out to knobble other players. They might not want to finish their careers, but there are plenty who have gone out to hurt others. You might not be old enough to remember our very own "Alehouse" team? They used to kick the sh*t out of the opposition. Every week you still see players going over the top of the ball. It is a miracle there aren't more broken legs.

I agree. Its a sick development in the game. Not so much the obvious scything tackle but the sly treading on an ankle once the ball has gone. Whilst looking away and checking the ref is following the ball and not looking.

Puel deserves a warm welcome back, we had some awful games under his leadership but he deserves some thanks for taking us to a cup final and my last memory of him being booed on a lap of honour after the Stoke game was harsh.

Hard game to predict, I'd say Leicester are favourites based on current form and the quality of their forward line, we will need to take what chances come our way. Can't stand Vardy so hope karma catches up with him for his challenge on VVD last season.

Won't be a big crowd, Leicester have sold 1600 so unless we've given loads of tickets away again blocks 43 and 44 will be empty.

There is a lot of stamping going on now. With all the of the cameras around you would think that players would realise that they will get picked up for it.

0-1 Vardy penalty, VVD sent off

That's exactly the feeling I have in my water.

I happened to watch some of the Newcastle / Leicester game on Saturday, thought Leicester looked very good indeed. We're not going to walk this one, but oddly enough I don't think it will be an overly defensive game and I also don't expect a draw, think one side will nick the win. No idea why.

This has the makings of an attractive game, we have been pretty good last two home games, Leic are organised and counter attack with pace and precision. Can we create chances? Against their defence yes, can we take them? Maybe. Can we concentrate for 90 minutes and shut out quite a potent attack? Maybe if Forster and VVD are on it, will they be though?

I've only been to one game this season and not really missing it but would quite like to have gone tonight (doh! tomorrow). Interesting possibilities all round, I'm going for an entertaining 2-2.

Looking at tomorrow's fixtures and our next three away games, this match is huge
Certainly is. At the moment we have the same number of wins as most of the teams widely acknowledged to be in a relegation battle.

With Palace winning, no teams are cut adrift.

If we lose versus Chelsea, Spurs and United as expected then we need to get 4 points minimum from Leicester and Hudds to avoid being bottom 3 at the start of Jan I think.

You expect WBA to get 5 points vs Arsenal, Man United, Liverpool, Stoke (away) and Everton?

Would like be to see the three of Romeu, Hoj and Lemina in midfield.

Would pretty much run the midfield against anyone in the league. Midfield means possession. Possession means less sitting back, automatically means less chances of conceding.

I like the idea of those three starting and pushing Lemina more forward. Perhaps "would pretty much be competitive against most other midfields" is a more grounded wrap.

So what do you think the reaction to Puel will be at St. Mary's Wednesday?

polite clapping? collective yawn?

A few snores or a chorus of wake me up before you go-go.

Left me sleeping

In my seat.

I was dreaming

Of the shuffle and side-ways pass.

Wake me up before you go go,

Don't leave me hanging on like a yo-yo.

Wake me up before you go go,

I don't want to miss it when you hit that pass.

On this day in 1997, Franny Benali scored his first and only career goal in a 2-1 win against Leicester. I was listening on Solent and genuinely thought they had made a mistake when they read out the scorer.

I would ask who we have in the squad for tonight that is long overdue a goal, but it probably applies to pretty much our entire midfield and defence, with the exception of Yoshida.

Cant remember the last time Forster got one, maybe the last minute of the game he goes up for a corner?

Jack Stephens or Cedric to get their first for the club.

Its possible. Would rather not take the risk of finding out.

Quite a few of the other sides have ganes against each other coming up and will defo pick up points so if we don't then its pretty obvious we will end up right down there.

Our performances of late have been much better. Just a shame it hasnt got us the points we deserved as that means we are still in quite a precarious position.

The likes of Hughes, Benitez, Hughton, Howe are coming under a bit of pressure but we have only a point or two more.

Benitez isn’t under any pressure at Newcastle.

He is in that he keeps feeling the need to justify why they are where they are, i.e because of his perceived lack of spend.

Whats our excuse for having won 4 from 16?

I wasn’t making an excuse, Benitez won’t get sacked by Newcastle whatever happens.

This is Puel vs Puellegino. It’ll be 90 minutes of both teams trying to sit back. The ball will probably not even move from the centre circle.

Puel's just picked up what Leicester have been doing for 3 years and isn't doing much different, we'll be trying to attack and they'll be countering.

Oh dear. Hoedt has thrown his toys. Black twitter pic and removed all about SFC.

Maybe he should think twice about trying to cut inside when he's the last man.

Grow up ffs.

For all the PR guff about doing due diligence and only recruiting players with the right character off the pitch we certainly seem to attract our fair share of babies! As you say, maybe he should concentrate on actually doing enough to be selected rather than making pathetic protests on social media.

If I was a natural I would LOVE Leicester to smash us tonight. The way their current manager was treated by our club and our fans was disgusting. It's bad enough he was sacked despite doing an alright (if unspectacular) job is bad enough but the way we waited and kept him guessing as well as fans commenting on social media that they hope he crashes his car on the way back from games to get rid of him was just utterly disgraceful.

I only hope our fans have the good grace to give him the decent reception he deserves tonight.
