ALWAYS_SFC Posted 29 November, 2017 Author Posted 29 November, 2017 Imagine if the manager had picked the right players, we would be winning by now... lol
doddisalegend Posted 29 November, 2017 Posted 29 November, 2017 Imagine if the manager had picked the right players, we would be winning by now... Both our chances fell to CBs which CBs did you want the manager to play instead?
Saint Fan CaM Posted 29 November, 2017 Posted 29 November, 2017 Do you know what - VVD is not all that much is he? Not doing much to impress any potential suitors that's for sure. And Redmond loses the ball once again giving the impetus back to City. What the hell does this player offer us? Get one of the U-23's into the side FFS.
angelman Posted 29 November, 2017 Posted 29 November, 2017 This is his default position - the way he managed Alaves. By the way we’re playing, he and we seem pretty comfortable with it. Aye. There seems little point in playing to City's strengths. If we get a point, then I think we'll be happy. If we manage to catch them on the break, or more realistically from a corner, then........!!
Sheaf Saint Posted 29 November, 2017 Posted 29 November, 2017 I can sort of see the logic of playing Redmond in this game, as in theory he is pacy and should be able to cause the Citeh defense problems on the break. But oh my days he has been crap. No ball control, no intelligence and just generally awful. Very much the weak link tonight.
Colinjb Posted 29 November, 2017 Posted 29 November, 2017 I can sort of see the logic of playing Redmond in this game, as in theory he is pacy and should be able to cause the Citeh defense problems on the break. His goal up there last season feels so long ago.
adrian lord Posted 29 November, 2017 Posted 29 November, 2017 Done well so far. Hats off to Pllegrino.
whelk Posted 29 November, 2017 Posted 29 November, 2017 The gym work outs paying off. Well done MP I’ll change my vote now
OttawaSaint Posted 29 November, 2017 Posted 29 November, 2017 Slightly eggy last few minutes. Hope we don’t chicken out.
Ohio Saint Posted 29 November, 2017 Posted 29 November, 2017 great to go off at half time winning 0-0!
BotleySaint Posted 29 November, 2017 Posted 29 November, 2017 Fantastic half from us. If only we'd buried one of those chances..
Saint_clark Posted 29 November, 2017 Posted 29 November, 2017 Redmond quite often runs back towards our own goal whilst beating oppo players...why the **** does he not do that going forward? Sent from my SM-J330FN using Tapatalk
doddisalegend Posted 29 November, 2017 Posted 29 November, 2017 Made to half time well done lads I was fearing a bit of a thrashing but we've held our own for the the first 45mins
Pamplemousse Posted 29 November, 2017 Posted 29 November, 2017 We're at least playing better than we did at Liverpool. Good stuff so far. I can't see us holding out tbh, but it's not the thrashing that was perhaps expected this time a week ago.
DuncanRG Posted 29 November, 2017 Posted 29 November, 2017 That half buries the argument that Pellegrino is ‘out of his depth’. This fixture is the deepest water you can get and he’s set us up brilliantly. More of the same please - maybe Tadic for Redmond at some point. It’ll get harder when they bring Silva on.
Manuel Posted 29 November, 2017 Posted 29 November, 2017 Boufal for Redmond. If I had a pound for every time I read / thought that!
trousers Posted 29 November, 2017 Posted 29 November, 2017 Fantastic half from us. If only we'd buried one of those chances..There is a train of thought that says had we scored early doors then Man City would have gone ultra attacking and it would have ended up being a consolation goal. The longer it stays 0-0 the better IMO, perverse as that 'logic' may seem... Sent from my SM-A520F using Tapatalk
saintadam Posted 29 November, 2017 Posted 29 November, 2017 Do you know what - VVD is not all that much is he? Not doing much to impress any potential suitors that's for sure. Been solid in defense and gave Yoshida a golden opportunity to score, what else can you ask from him?

I can't see us holding out tbh, but it's not the thrashing that was perhaps expected this time a week ago. This. We look a team. We're organised, we have a plan, we have asked a few questions. Hats off to MoPe. Not sure I'm changing my vote yet, but credit to him for this performance so far.
Saint_clark Posted 29 November, 2017 Posted 29 November, 2017 Still a departure from Pellegrinos pass sideways, backwards, retain possession at all costs style...glad to see a manager learning from mistakes though. Maybe he can turn it around yet. Shame Yoshida and Hoedt didn't show more composure although would we have just got Citys backs up more if we went into halftime beating them?
SaintAndy14 Posted 29 November, 2017 Posted 29 November, 2017 That was an impressive half. Everyone very organised and know their roles well. Kompany having a shocker both on the pitch and in the air where Long is beating him regularly. Much better both tactically and in terms of personnel in the last 1.5 matches. Hope yet! Only negative is Redmond - Boufal on for him, hopefully.

Credit to Pellegrino. Tactics been 10/10. We should have scored two as well.
LeBizzier69 Posted 29 November, 2017 Posted 29 November, 2017 Might just as well have Long and Gabbiadini rather than Redmond. Redmond really doesn't offer enough with this set up to warrant playing in it.
simo Posted 29 November, 2017 Posted 29 November, 2017 City fans moaning we're "Doing a Huddersfield" and "Parking the bus" but that we should be 2 nil up as we had the best chances !? Can't win can you haha

He has to be credited for the set up and tactics tonight. Apart from Redmond and Long - I'd say this is our best line up, even at home against a weaker side. I love seeing the 3 CB's and Hojbjerg, Lemina and Romeu all included. Add Boufal and Gabbiadini for Long and Redmond and we have a very good line up. Should be 2-0 up, unbelievable misses.

The longer it stays 0-0 the better IMO, perverse as that 'logic' may seem... Sent from my SM-A520F using Tapatalk My thoughts exactly. We only really want to take the lead in the 85th minute or afterwards really. And even then, that'll give them enough time for an equaliser...
DuncanRG Posted 29 November, 2017 Posted 29 November, 2017 As an aside, I love Van Dijk getting up front to do a Fellaini when we get a free kick on the half way line. Those centre halves are trouble at set pieces.
Wes Tender Posted 29 November, 2017 Posted 29 November, 2017 A really solid performance. I'm delighted to see the 3-5-2 at last. Three solid CBs and three solid central midfielders in front of them, two nippy full backs to get back to make a five in defence, or five across the middle, and two fast players to keep the City defence on its toes. Shame that the two up front are both fairly toothless as a goal threat, but they do have the speed to track back. Keep it at 0-0 until late in the match and then maybe throw the dice with Austin up top for Redmond and Boufal on for one of the midfield three.

That when stoke pulled it back to 3-2 it only annoyed citeh :D .......and he was probably right.

GarrettIvo Posted 29 November, 2017 Posted 29 November, 2017 I will be very happy with another 45 minutes like that. Keep them to having pops from 30 yards or so, and maybe try to convert one of those corners.

Hush Duncan, you can't say that on here!!!
stknowle Posted 29 November, 2017 Posted 29 November, 2017 I'm out so no access to a stream or time to read thread. Whose been our best player, Redmond?
whelk Posted 29 November, 2017 Posted 29 November, 2017 Next you fckers will be saying 2-0 is a dangerous lead
Pamplemousse Posted 29 November, 2017 Posted 29 November, 2017 I'm out so no access to a stream or time to read thread. Whose been our best player, Redmond? I’d say Lemina
verlaine1979 Posted 29 November, 2017 Posted 29 November, 2017 Redmond isn't quick, he's got no acceleration (compare with Lemina, who absolutely burned his marker more than once in that half from central midfield). No idea why people talk about him as if he's got pace - he's never shown any at any point in his saints career.
Minsk Posted 29 November, 2017 Posted 29 November, 2017 Watching the match live on a Russian channel. The commentators think we are very unlucky not to be in front at half-time and that the best 2 players during the first half were Lemina and Forster! I must admit, I enjoyed watching that half. Here's hoping we can keep it up!!!
OttawaSaint Posted 29 November, 2017 Posted 29 November, 2017 Just caught the last 10 of the 1st. Don’t think we got past halfway. Going to be a nervous 45+ to see out this point.
doddisalegend Posted 29 November, 2017 Posted 29 November, 2017 We'll at least we lasted 45 minutes..
OttawaSaint Posted 29 November, 2017 Posted 29 November, 2017 Just caught the last 10 of the 1st. Don’t think we got past halfway. Going to be a nervous 45+ to see out this point. Or not.
BotleySaint Posted 29 November, 2017 Posted 29 November, 2017 One of those games we'll probably still lose 4-0 or something. But have to be pleased with some of our play. Certainly more positive than recent weeks.
trousers Posted 29 November, 2017 Posted 29 November, 2017 Oops. P.s. why was that a free kick in the first place? Looked like a decent tackle to me
