You have to agree with Dave merrington on Solent today. We have lost the defence since Fonte left. Fonte was an organiser and excellent as a Captain. Since he has gone we have looked weak. There has been Lovren, Van Dijk etc. But it was Fonte who organised the defence the others do not have the intelligence, let them go its been seen these defectors go to a new club and fail including Fonte himself. The manager should be sacked before we end up relegated.

 

That is rubbish. Defensively last year (without VVD) we were extremely strong and well organized. The team was coached well - it wasn't always pretty but we were solid and lacking up front.

 

This year we are total rubbish and good players have gotten worse - and that is down to the manager

We still miss Fonte though, more so his leadership. He was on his last legs and needed to be replaced sooner rather than later, but we handled his exit like a bunch of idiots and didn't even bother replacing him.

 

We kind of did this summer with Hoedt, but even this is now all a bit of a mess as we're still down one with VVD. Recruitment has been a big issue here.

Fonte left in this window last year, the defence has not been much since. van Dijk was injured then angling a move, so the defence has been in array since this time last year.

 

I agree with S Clarke, he was a leader and quite frankly between Saints and Fonte they should have conjured up something for him to go into management once he retired he was loyal. Fonte was good for Saints and Saints were good for him it was a shame it all ended as it did.
