dellboysaint Posted 24 October, 2017 Posted 24 October, 2017 How's this for a line up? - - - - - Forster Cedric - Yoshi - Virgil - Bertrand - - - - - - - Romeu - - - Lemina - - - - Boufal - Davis - - - - - - - - - Tadic - - - - - - - Gabbi Boufal seem's to enjoy running at people, so why not have him and Lemina pushing up from central midfield. Agreed, but now Koeman's left, let's get Martina back or will he continue to follow Koeman's everywhere, even to Barcelona. The Scourers must have loved Martina, one of Koeman's summer madness signings.
moonraker Posted 24 October, 2017 Posted 24 October, 2017 So do people expect us to get a result? Turnberry with Ailsa Craig, beutiful place when its not raining. As to you question yes.
Micky Posted 24 October, 2017 Posted 24 October, 2017 They've done well to keep up so far. I think this will be a real test judging by that West Ham performance. Boufal needs to start. Drop Shane Long. This is (was) a very, very poor benchmark. If we ever drop to that level then I too will be calling for our manager to go. Shocking 'performance'.
Micky Posted 24 October, 2017 Posted 24 October, 2017 I've been a critic of Boufal because I don't feel he has shown enough since his arrival to really warrant a starting place... however if you score a goal a like yesterdays you should be given a chance to show if you can replicate it on a regular basis so stick him in the ten role and drop Davis or more probably Tadic (though TBF I thought Tadic hadn't a decent game yesterday even if he can't finish for toffee). Other than that same team as yesterday If he could do that, he wouldn't be playing for us mate...!
the saint in winchester Posted 24 October, 2017 Posted 24 October, 2017 Yeah, it could be argued that Boufal did exactly what an impact sub should do - make an impact! Pelegrino may take that as vindication of his use of Boufal and play him as impact sub, come on after 80 mins, every game now.
Dusic Posted 24 October, 2017 Posted 24 October, 2017 Would consider Targett as a front sweeper for this one, covering the whole of the pitch: ---------------Forster--------------- CS------MY--------VVD--------RB >>>>>>>>> -------------------ML------------------ DT--------------SD---------------SB -------------------MG------------------
Professor Posted 24 October, 2017 Posted 24 October, 2017 I dislike Brighton more than Bournemouth. Brighton fans are up there as some of the worst in the country. Memories of them in League 1, parking the bus and time wasting from the 5th minute I don't think the fans would be responsible if there was time-wasting in a match 6 years ago when the managers were Nigel Adkins and Gus Poyet, not that it has any relevance today. As for Brighton fans being the worst in the country, how about Millwall? I'd have thought that Brighton's fans would be polite southerners, just like ours, only supporting a different team.
beatlesaint Posted 24 October, 2017 Posted 24 October, 2017 I’m convinced MP will not start with Boufal.
Professor Posted 24 October, 2017 Posted 24 October, 2017 I’m convinced MP will not start with Boufal. Agree. Unlikely one moment of flair will cause a change of strategy. Pellegrino has said you can do things later in the game when opposing players are tiring which can’t do from the start. Best hope for Boufal is he might get on earlier in the second half. Last week’s starting XI made enough chances the odds being that some will start going in. Think we can assume that shooting practice features highly in training.
Saint Fan CaM Posted 25 October, 2017 Posted 25 October, 2017 Doubt Boufal will get the start he deserves. Whoever scores first will likely win. Brighton know how to play high possession teams and know how to score from route one play. It will not be an easy match.
Graffito Posted 25 October, 2017 Posted 25 October, 2017 More likely he plays Boufal from the beginning and he fails to ignite.
John Boy Saint Posted 25 October, 2017 Posted 25 October, 2017 See we have Neil Swarbrick on the whistle for this one, so neither here nor there really................. Although he does always make me think of the Officer in charge of the Radio Station in the film Good Morning Vietnam! Who Robin Williams winds right up by doing his own thing.
Shance Posted 25 October, 2017 Posted 25 October, 2017 Would like to see Hoedt and Van Dijk at cb for this game as I think Brighton will enjoy lumping balls into the box. Boufal to start for me, he's done more in three cameo's than Redmond has all season imo.
mrfahaji Posted 25 October, 2017 Posted 25 October, 2017 What kit will we be wearing? Don't both kits kind of clash?
trousers Posted 25 October, 2017 Posted 25 October, 2017 What kit will we be wearing? Don't both kits kind of clash? Think we wore our away kit at Huddersfield, whose home kit is similar to Brighton's? (off the top of my head)
The9 Posted 25 October, 2017 Posted 25 October, 2017 What kit will we be wearing? Don't both kits kind of clash? The home kit didn't clash with the West Brom kit on Saturday and the Brighton kit is only a slightly lighter blue than that. Also the predominantly black/jade away kit with home black shorts wouldn't clash either. Bournemouth away will be a different story, but there's no clash with any of the teams in blue.
The9 Posted 25 October, 2017 Posted 25 October, 2017 Think we wore our away kit at Huddersfield, whose home kit is similar to Brighton's? (off the top of my head) Huddersfield's is mainly white and a bit clashy with the white band on the home kit, but Brighton's (and West Brom's) is mainly blue.
5string Posted 25 October, 2017 Posted 25 October, 2017 Decent line up. My ideas for alternatives to this would include: Davis instead of Romeu Rom's been a bit 'off colour' recently, compared to his high standards of last season) JWP or Hoj instead of Tadic (so Tadic & Boufal don't get in each other's way) JWP & Hoj have drive & creativity without the trickery/skill of Tadic - skill we don't really need at Brighton, and which Boufal & Lemina would fulfil amply. All my own opinions, without necessarily having evidence to back it up
5string Posted 25 October, 2017 Posted 25 October, 2017 Incidentally, this is the opponent I REALLY want us to beat this season. I don't like BHA. Had to endure 5 years of living near there with their interminably arrogant and pompous supporters - and I went to school with their chairman! Barsteward (nice guy, actually) kept getting picked ahead of me in the school 2nd XI. I had the last laugh, ending up top scorer that season! Anyway... Saints, please win this game (and the return fixture).
doddisalegend Posted 25 October, 2017 Posted 25 October, 2017 That team is far too logical, balanced and attacking. Won't happen. It won't happen because Yoshida won't, quite rightly, get dropped.
BILLY Posted 26 October, 2017 Posted 26 October, 2017 Yeap very happy with that team! Good balance to it. The sooner Hoedt is back in d team d better, he would complement VvD so well with his excellent distribution from d back (long passes) especially like he did at Palace. I know a lot of you love Yoshida and he has improved immensely but for me it’s got to b d Dutch pair at d back (whilst they are both still here) and it suits r game plan under MP2 so much more.

shurlock Posted 26 October, 2017 Posted 26 October, 2017 Cant play Tadic and Boufal. One change for me Sent from my SM-G930F using Tapatalk This would be my shout too.

Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk What does Brighton being a "good" (debateable) city have to do with this being a hard game... Do you think we'll struggle to bring are A game because we're going to the PRIDE capital of the world?
eddie Posted 26 October, 2017 Posted 26 October, 2017 This would be my shout too. Dear god no. Anyone suggesting Long instead of Tadic starting is madness. Long has offered nothing the last few games, he has won headers and chased down defenders but that isn't what we need. Gabbiadini can do the same. Tadic has played well. he's won the ball back, put in a defensive shift (couldn't believe it but last few games he's done just that) and played some excellent passes behind the defence. I feel he's one of a very few players who can offer that linking play. After watching last week especially I was optimistic about Long but no chance now.

I think Long offers more away from home where teams will come out and leave more space open. At home, against a side that's happy to sit back, he's much less useful.

At home, against a side that's happy to sit back, he's much less useful. Absolutely agree and that's why against West Brom who sit back he wasn't an obvious choice to start... I'm more weighing up his strengths and weaknesses - his strengths seem to be his pace, headers/winning the first ball, and work rate. His weaknesses are lack of creativity, mispasses (happens all the time when I watch) and poor/non existent first touch or control. For me it's not worth it. Other players can provide the workrate and pace. The headers is missing, perhaps Gabbiadini could replace that but not as strong. But at least you help deal with the individual mistakes which plague our attacks...
Pamplemousse Posted 27 October, 2017 Posted 27 October, 2017 Confirmed that we will be wearing the home kit
verlaine1979 Posted 27 October, 2017 Posted 27 October, 2017 Lemina out injured Probably increases the chances of Boufal not being picked in order to maintain a spurious solidity.
beavis17 Posted 27 October, 2017 Posted 27 October, 2017 Probably increases the chances of Boufal not being picked in order to maintain a spurious solidity. Or Davis dropping in alongside Romeu will free up an attacking spot?
Chris27687 Posted 27 October, 2017 Posted 27 October, 2017 With Lemina out we have to play the following: ----------Forster Cedric VVD Yoshida Bertrand ----------Romeu -----Davis-------Tadic -----------Boufal ------Gabby----Long Should be a ding dong if we do.
shurlock Posted 27 October, 2017 Posted 27 October, 2017 Lemina out injured That’s shîtty news. Suspect it won’t be one of Glasgow’s golfing weekends.
verlaine1979 Posted 27 October, 2017 Posted 27 October, 2017 Or Davis dropping in alongside Romeu will free up an attacking spot? Would love to believe it, but seems unlikely from an ultra-conservative MP. Will probably drop Davis back as you say, but bring in JWP instead of risking an attacking midfielder playing through the middle with only one specialist DM behind.
igsey Posted 27 October, 2017 Posted 27 October, 2017 Any chance we'll see Hoj in place of Lemina? He had a very good game for the under 23s last week (okay it was only under 23s but still).

qwertyell Posted 27 October, 2017 Posted 27 October, 2017 Amazing how much weaker we'll be with just the loss of one midfielder. I think it's time Hojbjerg had another shot, but I suspect we'll get the much tried and failed trio of Romeu, Davis and Ward-Prowse instead. Sent from my F3311 using Tapatalk
Charlie Wayman Posted 27 October, 2017 Posted 27 October, 2017 Maybe Hoedt could play DMF alongside Romeu? Worth a call.
Shance Posted 27 October, 2017 Posted 27 October, 2017 Lemina injured. :/ Want to see Hojbjerg given a shot.
LGTL Posted 27 October, 2017 Posted 27 October, 2017 Romeu will need to step up now as he's been poor for a few weeks now.
doddisalegend Posted 27 October, 2017 Posted 27 October, 2017 Romeu will need to step up now as he's been poor for a few weeks now. I don't think Romeu has been poor so much as Lemina is a class above everyone else making him look less impressive. Last season Romeu looked excellent because our other midfielders were so bad especially HoJ and JWP. No Lemina is a real blow he has been the stand out player this season so far.
SFC-TID! Posted 27 October, 2017 Posted 27 October, 2017 Play Hoedt with Yoshida and Virgil next to Romeu. Personally don’t think the manager will start Boufal. He was rather uninterested in his interview after the match and today in his presser he wasn’t exactly praising him.
