Totally Football podcast today had Tom Markham on, he has PhD in football finance and was actually used by Chinese to broker our deal. Didn’t say much other than plan is to use our brand for harvesting talent across China and that would invest to take us on further. Oh and unsurprisingly listed us when pushed to say who the best run clubs across Europe,

Apparently The Pathway™ has been replaced by a concrete pathway between the pitches and the Liebherr Pavilion.

Makes sense I guess as out team v Stoke didn't have a single Academy player in it and the only one on the bench was JWP who finished at the Academy over 6 years ago...

Thought it was quite interesting and always nice to see the club get a bit more national exposure.

Sorry if that's not negative enough for the thread. :/

Love how our academy success still comes across. Only problem is that all the players the club celebrates were products of the system before Les and Martin Hunter joined the club so the systems or additions they have put in place has nothing to do with them. It is really now where we see if the celebrated Southampton Way when it comes to youth players actually works.

The thing that stood out for me whilst watching was how much I hate that awful maroon training top.

:D Me too.

That and how awesome "The Dome" looks from inside.

And what a nice chap that Wilfred Zaha seems to be.

Worryingly that's (IMO) the BEST piece of training kit we have this season, and even that looks like a Sainsbury's uniform. So imagine how bad the rest of it is.

You have to say that you are right. Martin Hunter came over rather poorly and his whole body language was uninspiriring... Out of touch and just too old thanks....

We need fresh blood to inspire and coach the youngsters...

I thought the whole piece showed an out of date complacency around a great modern facility..

The ‘lovely’ Ward Prowse was very ‘pleasant’.... As he is on the pitch really.....

Yeah well, it was all a bit very nice and lovely for me.....

Not exactly winner takes all ......

Prowse is a lovely bloke. That has never once been in question. Those who bash the posters telling the truth about JWP seem to forget that not a single negative comment has been made about his character, his effort, or anything that he has ever said. He's a great talker and a kind hearted individual. I'd love him over at Christmas! It's just on a football field, where he is expected to perform his duties as a professional football player, is where it all falls apart.

Lovely interview. Cracking smile. He probably dresses well too. But on a pitch? No. It's time for him to move into another line of work.

It's amazing how many people think they know the game so much better than the professionals running the game?

Obviously the club see something in JWP and Redmond for that matter otherwise they would be sweeping roads?

Whilst I get he is not the best player in the premier league,he is most certainly not the worst either.

Not sure about the general modern obsession with people, in all walks of life, are labelled either brilliant or ****...there doesn't seem to be a middle ground anymore?

Who is JWP competing with for a place in our team? 6th PL season and he isn't closer to getting in as a holding player, nor an attacking midfielder.

IMO his best position is wide right but few teams will select a one paced player out there, especially without a targetman to take advantage of his crossing ability.

He is a decent player, is having and will have a good career.

But there is no doubt the club give him so much airtime because a.) He is from the Academy b.) He is a nice lad c.) He is from the Academy d.) He is from the Academy

Hopefully soon someone else might emerge because you can't keep saying how great the Academy is and use a poster boy who hasn't nailed a place in 6 years since graduating from it, no matter how nice he is.
