And for me, Gary, you're not going to win games at this level with a pointy line. W1A deconstructs the Saints defence - about 24 minutes in.

Nice to hear so many players name-checked in a BBC comedy.
jasonb Posted 20 September, 2017 Posted 20 September, 2017 Genius. Just watched on iPlayer. Right up there with The Thick Of It for me Gary.
Ken Tone Posted 20 September, 2017 Posted 20 September, 2017 Bloke who writes it used to teach in Winchester, which presumably explains the local knowledge.
salisbury saints1 Posted 21 September, 2017 Posted 21 September, 2017 A brilliant series - I'm convinced the writers get some their material from my place of work but I guess many of the situations are common to all large organisations.
DT Posted 21 September, 2017 Posted 21 September, 2017 Loved that - saw it on the train home last night. As a Brompton owner too, it made me both embarrassed and laugh at the same time...
Special K Posted 21 September, 2017 Posted 21 September, 2017 Bloke who writes it used to teach in Winchester, which presumably explains the local knowledge. Yes, John Morton was my tutor at Peter Symonds College. Not sure if he was a Saints fan though.
twopintsnilnil Posted 21 September, 2017 Posted 21 September, 2017 The writing is nothing on the previous series - they've lost the subtelty completely. Every scene and conversation relies on exactly the same gag (all these people are jabbering fools) delivered at an increasingly frenetic pace. If you haven't seen it, I recommend the first series. Actually go back to Twenty Twelve, which has an identical premise set around the run up to the 2012 Olympics - even better. Wrong forum I think.

Why don't you just go full "I was there first" and recommend People Like Us, either on Radio 4 or BBC 2. Even even better better.
The9 Posted 21 September, 2017 Posted 21 September, 2017 Why don't you just go full "I was there first" and recommend People Like Us, either on Radio 4 or BBC 2. Even even better better. I think you'll find the hierarchy goes something like "people still watch the BBC?" and "I don't own a television" after that.
twopintsnilnil Posted 22 September, 2017 Posted 22 September, 2017 Because that wouldn't have occurred to me. Far from being there first I'm constantly there last with this kind of thing. To be able to demonstrate any knowledge at all was momentarily thrilling, but I will now go back to half watching Bake Off and Match of the Day (but only when we win).
RedFear Posted 22 September, 2017 Posted 22 September, 2017 Why don't you just go full "I was there first" and recommend People Like Us, either on Radio 4 or BBC 2. Even even better better. At the risk of doing exactly what you have just suggested, People Like Us was better (although I enjoy them all) even if now slightly unfortunate to have starred Chris Langham
Patrick Bateman Posted 22 September, 2017 Posted 22 September, 2017 I think you'll find the hierarchy goes something like "people still watch the BBC?" and "I don't own a television" after that. I work with a lot of these tools ... 'oh yah, I never watch live TV yah, I don't even own a TV guffaw".
The9 Posted 22 September, 2017 Posted 22 September, 2017 I work with a lot of these tools ... 'oh yah, I never watch live TV yah, I don't even own a TV guffaw". Not still at Virgin then?
Patrick Bateman Posted 22 September, 2017 Posted 22 September, 2017 Not still at Virgin then? 4 companies ago And they've gone backwards, by a long way ...
The9 Posted 22 September, 2017 Posted 22 September, 2017 4 companies ago Tbf I did know that, was worth it for the sake of the joke.
CB Fry Posted 22 September, 2017 Posted 22 September, 2017 At the risk of doing exactly what you have just suggested, People Like Us was better (although I enjoy them all) even if now slightly unfortunate to have starred Chris Langham It was very good, and Langham was excellent in it (as he was in The Thick Of It). Terrible business with him, probably means it never gets shown anywhere like Gold.
