Pamplemousse Posted 31 August, 2017 Posted 31 August, 2017 Away from the transfers, a few Saints players are involved in matches in the coming few days. The first are Hoedt, who starts for the Netherlands against France tonight, and Cédric for Portugal against the Faroes.
Pass the Dutchie Posted 31 August, 2017 Posted 31 August, 2017 Hoedt, who starts for the Netherlands against France tonight I'll be watching this one. It's going to be a very tough game, which we're (the Dutch) very unlikely to win. Good test for Hoedt though!
trousers Posted 31 August, 2017 Posted 31 August, 2017 France 1 nil up on 14 minutes. Didn't see the goal so not sure if Hoedt involved.
Pamplemousse Posted 31 August, 2017 Author Posted 31 August, 2017 France 1 nil up on 14 minutes. Didn't see the goal so not sure if Hoedt involved. Griezmann sort of lured him out of his defensive position and then the Frenchman ran in the area where he should've been. It was more intelligent play by the French rather than poor play from him though.
JRM Posted 31 August, 2017 Posted 31 August, 2017 I'll be watching this one. It's going to be a very tough game, which we're (the Dutch) very unlikely to win. Good test for Hoedt though! The French have battered Holland so far, midfield giving little protection so a busy night for the Dutch defence and Hoedt. Can't see VVD having the incentive to play well for a World Cup place this year.
S-Clarke Posted 31 August, 2017 Posted 31 August, 2017 The dutch have been horrible. They just cannot be bothered. Such a lack of mobility in that midfield/attack as well. Sad really, I remember when Robben et co were at their pomp in tournaments, they were great to watch.
Pamplemousse Posted 31 August, 2017 Author Posted 31 August, 2017 Defensively they've looked reasonably solid, but attacking-wise they've been dreadful. No idea why Sneijder is playing, he is past it. Surely they have some good young attacking players they can play????
S-Clarke Posted 31 August, 2017 Posted 31 August, 2017 Defensively they've looked reasonably solid, but attacking-wise they've been dreadful. No idea why Sneijder is playing, he is past it. Surely they have some good young attacking players they can play???? Yeah it's sad to see him like this. Amazing player at his prime. The dutch team is going through a bit of a lull, not too many huge prospects coming through yet..
Pamplemousse Posted 31 August, 2017 Author Posted 31 August, 2017 Meanwhile, a Portugal defence containing Fonte has conceded a goal from the Faroe Islands...
S-Clarke Posted 31 August, 2017 Posted 31 August, 2017 Meanwhile, a Portugal defence containing Fonte has conceded a goal from the Faroe Islands... And Cedric tbf...
red&white56 Posted 31 August, 2017 Posted 31 August, 2017 Meanwhile, a Portugal defence containing Fonte has conceded a goal from the Faroe Islands... Is that on a par with England conceding a goal from Iceland?? or worse??
trousers Posted 31 August, 2017 Posted 31 August, 2017 The Dutch down to 10 men. A soft second yellow for Strootman.
trousers Posted 31 August, 2017 Posted 31 August, 2017 2nd goal for France. Great strike. Hoedt not involved.
trousers Posted 31 August, 2017 Posted 31 August, 2017 Bulgaria beating Sweden. Lifeline for the Dutch? (whilst it means Bulgaria leapfrog the Dutch it keeps Sweden within touching distance)
trousers Posted 31 August, 2017 Posted 31 August, 2017 France 3 Netherlands 0 French counter attack... nothing Hoedt could do about it.
Pamplemousse Posted 31 August, 2017 Author Posted 31 August, 2017 4-0 now! The only good news for the Dutch is that Sweden are losing, so 2nd place *might* be up for grabs.
trousers Posted 31 August, 2017 Posted 31 August, 2017 Time to put a few bob on the French for the World Cup I reckon (yes, the Dutch have been poor but France have got a glut of talent up front)
Dark Munster Posted 31 August, 2017 Posted 31 August, 2017 Bulgaria beating Sweden. Lifeline for the Dutch? (whilst it means Bulgaria leapfrog the Dutch it keeps Sweden within touching distance) The proverbial group of death.
Batman Posted 31 August, 2017 Posted 31 August, 2017 Time to put a few bob on the French for the World Cup I reckon (yes, the Dutch have been poor but France have got a glut of talent up front)Got to have the most expensive squad in the world
Saint Albert Posted 31 August, 2017 Posted 31 August, 2017 If Holland feel like a change of managers would help with qualifying from this difficult group, I believe that the chap in charge of Everton is Dutch.
Window Cleaner Posted 1 September, 2017 Posted 1 September, 2017 If Holland feel like a change of managers would help with qualifying from this difficult group, I believe that the chap in charge of Everton is Dutch. No one would want to manage the shambles I witnessed yesterday.
S-Clarke Posted 1 September, 2017 Posted 1 September, 2017 If Holland feel like a change of managers would help with qualifying from this difficult group, I believe that the chap in charge of Everton is Dutch. It's a poisoned chalice I reckon. The dutch team look like they've downed tools.
John Boy Saint Posted 1 September, 2017 Posted 1 September, 2017 If Holland feel like a change of managers would help with qualifying from this difficult group, I believe that the chap in charge of Everton is Dutch. Tale I heard from a "Little Mouse with clogs on in Old Amsterdam" When van Gaal said he was stepping down from the national team after the 2014 World Cup. Koeman had apparently positioned himself with the ending of his Feynoord contract to step into the role as on paper he was the "next man up". Allegedly the KNVB pretty much snubbed him having already sounded out a repeat of Guus Hiddink. Talking to Dutch friends they reckon Koeman would only be slightly tempted if the KNVB crawled over broken glass and begged him. but while he is earning a good living from club management no matter how crap the national side are doing he is happy to see them scraping the barrel.
Pamplemousse Posted 1 September, 2017 Author Posted 1 September, 2017 Bertrand starting for England Let's see if he manages to smile
trousers Posted 1 September, 2017 Posted 1 September, 2017 Bertrand looks as hacked off playing for England as he does when he plays for us!
simo Posted 1 September, 2017 Posted 1 September, 2017 Is anyone watching saints play Malta? Just posted the same thing on Fb
S-Clarke Posted 1 September, 2017 Posted 1 September, 2017 Henderson is such a boring player to watch. Just nothing.
Saint Billy Posted 1 September, 2017 Posted 1 September, 2017 Just posted the same thing on Fb Painful init!.
aintforever Posted 1 September, 2017 Posted 1 September, 2017 Henderson & Livermore - has there ever been a worse central midfield for England?
Saint Albert Posted 1 September, 2017 Posted 1 September, 2017 I can't watch the game. Is Southgate really playing two holding midfielders? Against Malta?
bazza Posted 1 September, 2017 Posted 1 September, 2017 Painful init!. Painful? I'm at San Marino v NI. You've no idea what painful is! lol
ericofarabia Posted 1 September, 2017 Posted 1 September, 2017 Only thing of note is the Score in the top corner of the TV .... MLT 0 ENG 0 ..... Le God single handedly keeping England's "Finest" at bay :-)
Bobbyboy Posted 1 September, 2017 Posted 1 September, 2017 Henderson & Livermore - has there ever been a worse central midfield for England? Carlton Palmer, Geoff Thomas, Andy Sinton...?
Saint Billy Posted 1 September, 2017 Posted 1 September, 2017 Can't expect anything else with Southgate as manager.
simo Posted 1 September, 2017 Posted 1 September, 2017 Henderson & Livermore - has there ever been a worse central midfield for England? Why he's even playing 2 holding midfielders against Malta God only knows
Saint Billy Posted 1 September, 2017 Posted 1 September, 2017 (edited) Painful? I'm at San Marino v NI. You've no idea what painful is! lol I've never been that much into sadomasochism myself but hey if it presses your buttons good on ya , but then again I'm watching England Edited 1 September, 2017 by Saint Billy

simo Posted 1 September, 2017 Posted 1 September, 2017 God this is dire. I'm watching Master Chef instead. Can't be any worse!! Cheers for the heads up so am I now !
angelman Posted 1 September, 2017 Posted 1 September, 2017 The World's End is just starting on Film4. Cracking film. CAn't face a film as been driving for 7 hours today. Made the 1st half go quickly though, as I slept through most of it. See NI have had 24 shots with 4 on target. Wonder how many of those are Davis's?
Batman Posted 1 September, 2017 Posted 1 September, 2017 Hoddle talks twaddle won't be surprised if he somehow gives Danny Rose the MoM
Saint Albert Posted 1 September, 2017 Posted 1 September, 2017 Painful? I'm at San Marino v NI. You've no idea what painful is! lol Davis has apparently knocked in a penalty for N.Ireland. On a scale of 1 to 10, with 1 being Tadic and 10 Le Tissier, how good was his penalty?
