Window Cleaner Posted 7 November, 2017 Posted 7 November, 2017 Redmond and Jwp may get a call yet , Today Kane , Winks , Sterling , Delph and Henderson have all pulled out of the squad today ! What can you expect for 2 totally pointless international games really. Obviously the play-offs have some importance but the rest is just to fill the coffers of national associations. Top players have largely enough games as it is without worthless friendlies.

None of our academy players seem to be anywhere near the first team, they are not winning games on a regular basis (even Theo, Bale/Lallana's group never won the youth cup) and now we don't seem to even have any players in the England age groups. Chelsea get criticised for never giving their kids a chance but just count how may of their ex Academy players have been on duty with the various England age groups and the seniors. They also win trophies at youth level.
Charlie Wayman Posted 11 November, 2017 Posted 11 November, 2017 We seem to have gone out of fashion very quickly, not a sniff of a Saint past or present out here last night except for Ryan's leg stretched 10 mins at the end and he isn't really one of our own (although we love him of course!). Is this because we use Sure and not Lynx?

Isn't that partly because the likes of City and Chelsea are now (or have been for a while) bringing their financial muscle to the academy set up coupled with the lifting of the catchment areas of the tier 1 academy sides means they can hoover up the best talent around the country something they couldn't do under the old system. I've heard tales of boys 8-9 age group picking Chelsea over saints academy because Chelsea offered the parents serious financial rewards to go with them.

This is partly true but those youngsters have next to no route into their first teams, which should be a decent selling point for our academy. We are told we have this great academy and player production line but even though they may have more of the better youngsters to pick from, the biggest difference seems to be that their coaching at junior levels seems to be light years ahead of ours.

goso Posted 12 November, 2017 Posted 12 November, 2017 Saints should consider Christian Theoharous a 17year old from Melbourne Victory in Australia.
simo Posted 14 November, 2017 Posted 14 November, 2017 Berty starts i presume as part of a back 5 possibly as part of the 3 where Koeman used him !?
igsey Posted 14 November, 2017 Posted 14 November, 2017 Comparing the team sheets is hilarious... our front 5: Livermore, Dier, Loftus-Cheek, Vardy, Rashford. Their front 5: Paulinho, Casemiro, Gabriel Jesus, Coutinho, Neymar... could be a cricket score with Hart in goal!
Shance Posted 14 November, 2017 Posted 14 November, 2017 Bertrand was absolutely woeful in that game. what is going on with him lately?
danjosaint Posted 14 November, 2017 Posted 14 November, 2017 Have to agree he was so poor, Rose will take his spot without shadow of doubt

After all, we are the U17 & U20 World Champions.
qwertyell Posted 15 November, 2017 Posted 15 November, 2017 Bertrand was absolutely woeful in that game. what is going on with him lately? He looks slow and out of shape. Sent from my F3311 using Tapatalk
JRM Posted 15 November, 2017 Posted 15 November, 2017 He looks slow and out of shape. Sent from my F3311 using Tapatalk It's an odd one, he doesn't look that bothered but could just be reading body language wrongly. Bertrand has 19 England caps now, a decent tally and he's bound to get some more in build up to the World Cup. I think he had one or two of those caps before joining us but even still - who was the last player to win that many caps whilst a Saints player? My guess would be Shilton.
Scully Posted 15 November, 2017 Posted 15 November, 2017 He looks slow and out of shape. Bit harsh, clean sheet against a good Brazil side. Thought he played okay.
Dusic Posted 11 December, 2017 Author Posted 11 December, 2017 Another poor result losing 4-2 at home after taking a 2-0 lead. Hard to see any of them making it IMO, which I guess is becoming the norm in the PL these days.

Players with a lot of potential are not fulfilling it and a lot of that's down to coaching.
