Redmond you of anyone? Hoedt must have "looked good " in teams before he got to us, but often players become the "square peg" in a new club, and don't ever fit in. This was certainly the case with Hoedt, and his outspoken reaction to being dropped / blamed for team errors didn't help his case either. My input is that many players look good in a successful team, (or are stand-out players in a poor side), but that doesn't help if they join a new club and are asked to play another role, or in another formation. The footballing nous, or talent they had learnt before just goes to waste. Looking at Hoedt's performances with Saints, few of us would deny that is didn't work out, but there is a footballer in there somewhere and it would be nice to think that despite all the strife in between, he may get the chance to kick start his career before it's too late.

I was on about dejenepo but yes hoedt had some skills just an attitude that didn't match
Master Bates Posted 27 February, 2023 Posted 27 February, 2023 We got a high percentage of his sale to Watford. Sounds just under €1m. Despite 'letting' the player move for free, we negotiated for the percentage of a resale. 2
Crab Lungs Posted 27 February, 2023 Posted 27 February, 2023 Awful footballer. Only saving grace is we never partnered him with Vestergaard. Otherwise we’d have a few more 0-9’s to our name.
S-Clarke Posted 27 February, 2023 Posted 27 February, 2023 We've had some depression-inducing footballers over the last 5 or 6 years, he's another one to add to the list.

Saint IQ Posted 1 September, 2023 Posted 1 September, 2023 Just seen a twitter handle putting him in their team of the month for August. Had no idea he's gone to Watford! Our strikers and Midfielders will be licking their lips when we play them. 1
Lighthouse Posted 1 September, 2023 Posted 1 September, 2023 Christ alive, you gave me a heart attack bumping this thread. I thought he was coming back. 3 5
Jazzfunk Posted 1 September, 2023 Posted 1 September, 2023 Still blows my mind that Hoedt played six full international games for the Netherlands. How poor must their centre back options have been in 2017? 1

Coming back! - I thought we still had the bugger on one of those Chelsea 'esk 20 year contracts and that the umpteenth loan with an option to buy had finally found a Carillo from Monaco to Southampton type of sucker club to opt in!
Bakovnetski Posted 1 September, 2023 Posted 1 September, 2023 Trust Saints to agree to a 5-year loan with an obligation to take him back

East Kent Saint Posted 2 September, 2023 Posted 2 September, 2023 Scored an og today passed back past the keeper !
Holmes_and_Watson Posted 2 September, 2023 Posted 2 September, 2023 While fully expecting an unlikely MOM performance when we play them, I'm now thinking of a dream Hoedt/ Holgate centre half partnership. 🙂

I'd prefer the obvious, and rarer communication mess up to the dawning feeling that every shot at our goal will go over/under/through/past our goalkeeper. 🙂 I hadn't even finished my suprise that one got parried, when it was back across and in yesterday. 😒

HarvSFC Posted 2 December, 2023 Posted 2 December, 2023 Watched the highlights and saw the Hoedt we all know for the Hull goal.
HarvSFC Posted 7 March, 2024 Posted 7 March, 2024 Funny if it is true. Would seem Austin's a good judge of player.
