Mr X Posted 14 August, 2017 Posted 14 August, 2017 A few papers suggesting theo is frustrated at his lack of game time at arsenal & longs to regain form, says Southampton could be the ideal platform for him to ressurect himself & get in the England team..... Would you welcome him back? Sent from my Moto G (4) using Tapatalk
Batman Posted 14 August, 2017 Posted 14 August, 2017 (edited) Yes, 100% if Theo and OxO were proper footballers, they would have asked to move years ago. Edited 14 August, 2017 by Batman
angelman Posted 14 August, 2017 Posted 14 August, 2017 The problem is with all these players who bunk off to the big teams and find themselves sitting on their hands, is that they sign for wages that we cannot afford. The answer to your question, if we had to match his current wages, would be "no". You hear players going on about playing for love not money, but how many take a large wage cut to carry on playing (except when they reach the end of their career) rather than warm the bench and count their pennies?
beatlesaint Posted 14 August, 2017 Posted 14 August, 2017 Would welcome him back but not a chance in hell of it happening.
jamesfp1 Posted 14 August, 2017 Posted 14 August, 2017 I'd have him but he's not going to half his wages to come here and rightly so.
Nolan Posted 14 August, 2017 Posted 14 August, 2017 I doubt we would pay Walcott 55k when gabbiadini was reported to be on 80k
Faz Posted 14 August, 2017 Posted 14 August, 2017 Theo has earned more money than he can ever spend. He might be able to get by on £80kpw if he is intent on getting regular football. Arsenal may make a contribution too. Probably won't happen. Never go back etc etc
farawaysaint Posted 14 August, 2017 Posted 14 August, 2017 I would absolutely love Theo to return, for those saying never go back etc look at Zaha, didn't turn out too badly.
OldNick Posted 14 August, 2017 Posted 14 August, 2017 well he always wanted to ply for Liverpool being a fan of theirs and so we could be his stepping stone lol
SuperSAINT Posted 14 August, 2017 Posted 14 August, 2017 Would love him back, but lacking re-sale value at 28. BIG wages too.
the saint in winchester Posted 14 August, 2017 Posted 14 August, 2017 Yes, time to come home, Theo. You know it makes sense. £80k a week and the job's yours.
Bearsy Posted 14 August, 2017 Posted 14 August, 2017 Would be a major upgrade on Redmond, in terms of Goal Threat.
Patrick Bateman Posted 14 August, 2017 Posted 14 August, 2017 The one ex-Saint (apart from Bale) that I'd love to see rejoin Saints as I think he still has something to offer and has been chronically underused by Arsenal - he'd definitely up our goals for tally. Realistically, he isn't going to take a pay cut to come back you'd think.
aintforever Posted 14 August, 2017 Posted 14 August, 2017 Would love it. Wages shouldn't be an issue if we flog Van Dyke.
SonicBoom Posted 14 August, 2017 Posted 14 August, 2017 I saw a story over the weekend that Kieron Gibbs wants more football and will leave Arsenal. Watford are rumoured to be interested but they can't match his wages and he won't drop his demands. When are these dopeys ....ers going to realise that if you are moving back down the pyramid then you aren't going to get the same money! If you are going from Arsenal to Watford you cannot expect the same money. Theo would have to come to the same conclusion.
Bad Wolf Posted 14 August, 2017 Posted 14 August, 2017 Would welcome him back with open arms. Lovely lad, left on good terms, always spoke highly of us since leaving. He'll come back one day, I've always been sure of that since he left.

I googled "Southampton Walcott transfer" and nothing came up on the first few pages (well, nothing recent)
Saint Albert Posted 5 October, 2017 Posted 5 October, 2017 More Walcott rumours: http://www.express.co.uk/sport/football/862807/Arsenal-Theo-Walcott-Southampton
SuperSAINT Posted 6 October, 2017 Posted 6 October, 2017 More Walcott rumours: http://www.express.co.uk/sport/football/862807/Arsenal-Theo-Walcott-Southampton He's an interesting case because where does he go if he leaves? Can't be to an elite team. We'd be a good fit but I can't see us paying big wages & fee for a 28 year old.
captainchris Posted 6 October, 2017 Posted 6 October, 2017 He would. Definitely bring him back but not Chamberlain who is now really quite quite poor....
Saint Fan CaM Posted 6 October, 2017 Posted 6 October, 2017 He's an interesting case because where does he go if he leaves? Can't be to an elite team. We'd be a good fit but I can't see us paying big wages & fee for a 28 year old. How old was Pelle when he arrived? 28 I think.
Faz Posted 6 October, 2017 Posted 6 October, 2017 Assuming he wants to stay in the EPL, and play regularly, then either us or West Ham are likely destinations imo. Not sure he would fancy going North (I have no reasoning for that statement). It could also be an option for him taking a bigger pay packet to be a squad filler at Chelsea.
Dusic Posted 6 October, 2017 Posted 6 October, 2017 If the wages worked then signing him would be a no brainer. Still has something to prove and has a very good goal record from a wide position.
saint-crinny Posted 6 October, 2017 Posted 6 October, 2017 I think enough time has passed that he wouldn't see an issue coming back. Hardly a tail between his legs style return in the way that say, Morgan returning to us from United would have been. Would be a superb signing for us as well - main issue is wages. Would we pay close to what he is getting now? You know West Ham would
September Saint Posted 6 October, 2017 Posted 6 October, 2017 Loan him back if possible. Go from there. This
Saint Billy Posted 6 October, 2017 Posted 6 October, 2017 Story seems to be gathering pace in the media. I think he is just what we need ATM, plus game time might give him a last gasp chance of getting into the England squad for Russia, he won't get regular game time with the bigger clubs.
the saint in winchester Posted 6 October, 2017 Posted 6 October, 2017 The outlets are quoting Everton, West Ham and us. The first two would likely pay more. Everton can afford it, West Ham think they can and would pay it disregarding the consequences. Maybe if we do sell VVD, we would consider financing a Walcott deal. It's a YES from me. Pace and finishing ability.
lloydie Posted 6 October, 2017 Posted 6 October, 2017 Get him onboard IMO, massive upgrade on Redmond, Tadic and Long.
Wade Garrett Posted 6 October, 2017 Posted 6 October, 2017 Good thing for me is at this stage of his career, he wouldn't be looking to p*ss off somewhere else after a good half-season.
Heisenberg Posted 6 October, 2017 Posted 6 October, 2017 Only chance we have is the new owners..... Under Kat / Les zero chance. But new owner might have some legitimate ambitions Still think he'd go to one of the top 7 before us

Professor Posted 6 October, 2017 Posted 6 October, 2017 He was exciting when he was 16 and too good for Redknapp to leave him out of the team, but despite those England caps he’s not always had a nailed-on place in the Arsenal team and is now a second-string player. If he’s not good enough for them, why should he be good enough for us. Nostalgia is never a reason to re-sign a former player; he must be better than anyone else available at the price and wages the club is prepared to pay.
ALWAYS_SFC Posted 6 October, 2017 Posted 6 October, 2017 Only chance we have is the new owners..... Under Kat / Les zero chance. But new owner might have some legitimate ambitions Still think he'd go to one of the top 7 before us Burnley but not Everton then?
East Kent Saint Posted 6 October, 2017 Posted 6 October, 2017 His problem is if he has time to think then he will miss the goal completely , if he just hits the ball then he may score ! As our final third play is so laboured he would probably be a bad buy !!
pluto Posted 6 October, 2017 Posted 6 October, 2017 Wages wise i cant see it happening but we certainly need someone better than Redmond as hes simply not good enough.
Charlie Wayman Posted 6 October, 2017 Posted 6 October, 2017 If he’s not good enough for them, why should he be good enough for us. Nostalgia is never a reason to re-sign a former player; he must be better than anyone else available at the price and wages the club is prepared to pay. That argument is completely fallacious as we are not in any way comparable to Arsenal this season. You are surmising that we should be challenging for the top 6 whereas in reality we are struggling to be even top 10 this season. Walcott is better than anybody who would want to come here and is remotely affordable for us.
VectisSaint Posted 6 October, 2017 Posted 6 October, 2017 Always liked Walcott, but he's been at Arsenal 10 years, never fulfilled his potential, not good enough for them any more it seems, his main asset was his pace but at 28 that will be the first thing to go. Does not fit our profile. Can't see why we would sign him and really would prefer it if we didn't. Yes we need someone better than Redmond, and poor as he is not really sure that Theo is enough of a step up to make up for the negatives. It's a no from me.
Lorne Malvo Posted 6 October, 2017 Posted 6 October, 2017 TW is a striker...he is wasted on the wing, always had been and its such a shame. Don't want us to buy him and then whack him on the wing as well. As someone said he has the pace but once thats gone he hasn't got that many other attributes that stand out. Maybe Longs replacement...
marc_saint Posted 6 October, 2017 Posted 6 October, 2017 Can see it happening. He wouldn't have to drop much of his wages if Gabbiadini is on £80k as reported elsewhere. Also his wife is a Southampton girl (Is he still with her?) and his family are only up the A34 at Newbury. Would make more sense that any similar team oop north
Matthew Le God Posted 6 October, 2017 Posted 6 October, 2017 A few papers suggesting Not really... it is the Express that had the story. All the others are simply rehashing the Express in their rumour roundup by saying "the Express says...". That isn't the same as them all having the story. The Express is one of the least reliable sources of football news.
johnnyboy Posted 6 October, 2017 Posted 6 October, 2017 Interesting when you consider that Gibbs signed for West Brom in the summer And that post was from 14/08 ! #justsaying !!
