If it is true that we are the 0-0 specialists, why is there so much demand on this forum saying we need a new gk, that Yoshi full of mistakes and that Jack Stephens is not yet ready?

Agree, excellent defenders, the only attribute they lack is height. The reason we lost the cup final was because late on, Mourinho shoved Ibrahima***** and Fellaini up front to take advantage. Our last game of last season, Crouch scoring a late winner with his head...it was so predictable and very annoying to witness.

We tend to be masters of the 0-0 when opponents can't muster a shot on target. Often last season it seemed that a shot on target turned it into a 0-1 all too easily.

Not to worry, this can't go on much longer.

The Law of Averages is firmly on our side and will be champing at the bit to level the scales.

Soon we will be drowned under a veritable avalanche of goals.

Not many suggesting Fonte in their starting line up I see.

I was thinking he(Fonte) must be injured or something. Still £10m isn't bad a transfer fee for a 33 year old who can't get in the first team....

Id go with;

Forster

Cedric Stephens Yoshi Bertrand

Romeu Lamina

JWP Tadic Boufal

Gabbiadini

Davis and Redmond didnt do much at the weekend to warrant starting against WHU, JWP gets in for his industry and set pieces, not entirely sure what others saw at the weekend, I thought he had a good game.

Lets hope we can actually get Gabbiadini involved properly.

Was talking to my West Ham supporting brother, they really don't rate Fonte. A shrewd bit of business on our part.

Hopefully West Ham will be a bit more adventurous than Swansea, though they still have players that can hurt is. Is Carroll fit? Cos I's worry about our defence against him, also Antonio is a threat in the air peeling on to the fullbacks.

Knowing our luck we'll play them off the park, miss all our shots and they'll score one from a corner or a long shot.

Oh, so we haven't been scoring???? I thought we'd changed our name to "Southampton Nil"

I think we need more scoring punch. I don't buy into the mantra that yesterday was just a "one-off", we saw the same movie too many times last year with the same players. We have a whopping 2 guys who have proven they can score with some regularity, Gabbi and Austin, so I propose switching the formation to accommodate them. We can't tie our way to the top, but we can tie our way to the Championship. How about the dreaded 3-4-1-2:

Forster

Cedric- Yoshida-Bertrand

Romeu-Lemina

Tadic Redmond

Boufal

Gabbi-Austin

We would get thoroughly bummed if we played that formation/team.

West Ham were just as crap last season, yet contrived to easily turn us over at St Mary's in one of our worst performances under Puel.

Best not count any chickens. Who even knows if we'll ever score another home goal?

We weren't actually that bad vs West Ham, people just got annoyed about the result. Randolph pulled off a few good saves, Gabbiadini missed a great chance after his amazing goal, yet at the other end West Ham's first was sloppy from our CBs, and Forster was terrible for the other two (as well as them being a little lucky).

Oh dear.

JWP isn't fit to tie Davis boot laces..they are miles apart in creativity, linking midfield to attack and even pace. Actually, you would find it hard to find a slower midfield player in the premiership.. he makes Surman look quick.

+1 for the ignore list it is.

Pete, as a matter of interest - are there any circumstance - eg JWP's second half display yesterday - where you wouldn't include him in you starting eleven?

He looked very good to me and I agreed with those confused why he was the one coming off.

I think he has to be playing games this season to continue the growth he showed last season.

Very nearly another sell-out looking on the official website, good going.

Although the Swansea game was meant to be sold out and there were rows of seats dotted around the place.

The ticket numbers include STs though wouldn't be surprised if a few ST holders are actually away on holidays this time of year but still get counted in attendance figures.

I'm sure a fair few were, but there were a few empty rows dotted around. Good going anyway.

Looks like we've slightly increased the away allocation as well.

Unless something changes in either team dynamic or tactics we'll lose this one. Wet Sham have goals in their team...at the moment it's not obvious where ours will come from. I would give Lemina a go next to Romeu with the instruction one of them holds back if the other attacks. Save Davis for later when we need a more steady hand. I would also start Boufal ahead of Redmond who went missing 2nd half last game.

Cedric, Yoshida, Stephens, Bertrand

Romeu, Lemina

Boufal, Davis, Redmond

Gabbiadini

Far too many of our attacks break down with Tadic. Even the penalties.

This for me, though maybe harsh on JWP.

Forster

Cedric-Virgil Van Frigging Dijk-Hoedt-Bertrand

Lemina-Romeu

Redmond-Vietto-Tadic

Gabbiadini

Subs: McCarthy, Yoshida, Stephens, Davis, JWP, Boufal, Austin.

We can dream! (Or unchanged line up, whatevs.)

The only prediction I'm making is that I think we'll banish our home goal scoring hoodoo. West Ham will click at some point, hopefully not this game.

Pretty sure Carroll is out. Antonio is back.

Hopefully Lanzini misses the game as well.

Ward-Prowse has to start for me. I was often one who wasn't sure what his purpose was, but we seem to always play better when he plays, so for that reason he gets in for me.

Think the opposite. He's not improving imo.

Someone has done a West Ham Era twitter thing - that club is literally insane, i had forgotten about so much of the craziness.

Why on earth would u put yoshi in front of stephens , is it because hes a nice guy

Probably because he's a better defender.

If it's another 0-0 surely it's time to start calling the boss Puellegrino? I reckon once we get the first one in and break the hoodoo we'll score a hatful.

Those plucky 'ammers are convinced they will oblige and assist in ending our goal drought.

Much the same as any football fan I guess, you always think your team will bare the brunt of another's backlash.

Here's hoping...

Well having watched most of Wesr Ham's game on Sunday I'd think that if it's another 0-0 what we'd need to be a calling was the next manager on our list. They were awful and not beating them would be simply shameful.

I would give that White Witch another go first, seemed to work all those years ago when we first moved into SMS.......... we might be in need of a recharge! :D

Hopefully Wham won't be as negative as Swansea, which will leave a bit more room in the final 3rd to operate.

I don't think they'd even know how to be a particularly negative. Did no-one else watch them then? It was a public rec side really. Couldn't string 2 passes together, aimless punting most of the time.
