mrfahaji Posted 12 August, 2017 Posted 12 August, 2017 Depends if there is room in the team for him with Romeu and the new guy holding and Davis in front where does JWP play? Instead of Davis. He hasn't yet shown he can do that job effectively but with a little less defensive responsibility he may do well there. My concern is that he isn't capable of running with the ball and starting counter attacks, but can't see where else he can develop apart from maybe RM in a 4-4-2.

Davo is captain though isn't he? so will have to play.
labibs Posted 12 August, 2017 Posted 12 August, 2017 0-1 We'll batter them, miss a hatful and Tammy will pinch it for them in 82nd min. Cue meltdown on here
simo Posted 12 August, 2017 Posted 12 August, 2017 Back 5 as expected the rest is Romeu Davis Jwp Tadic Redmond Gabbi
Pass the Dutchie Posted 12 August, 2017 Posted 12 August, 2017 No Hoj on the bench... Or Clasie. EDIT: like people above me said.
mrfahaji Posted 12 August, 2017 Posted 12 August, 2017 Lot of money on that bench. A very attacking one too. Lemina straight in ahead of Hojbjerg and Clasie - a little concerning that we're either going with JWP or Davis alongside Romeu, but perhaps at home to Swansea we won't have to be quite so strong there. Glad to see Cedric in, that must be close to the team most expected. Stephens has generally found it easier to cope with the smaller, quicker forwards than the big men, so the fact Llorente isn't back for them is a plus. Cue 2 goals from Abraham and Ayew now...
Professor Posted 12 August, 2017 Posted 12 August, 2017 Good to see both new boys on the bench. If Lemina comes on it could be exciting.
Golac's Iron Gonads Posted 12 August, 2017 Posted 12 August, 2017 I'd buy him a pint if I ever met him.
Bad Wolf Posted 12 August, 2017 Posted 12 August, 2017 Nige is one of the nicest men in football. My mum is a steward at SMS, he was there for the England youth game a few months ago and was happy to chat to all the stewards beforehand and kept saying to them all "Are you sure I'm not going to get you in trouble by keeping you talking". We may have surpassed his managerial level but I'd be delighted to see him back as a youth coach, he'd be class at that. Though, I could also understand him not wanting to do that. Stand up guy. My favourite ever Saints manager.
Saint_Tony Posted 12 August, 2017 Posted 12 August, 2017 A reasonable looking bench for the first time since RoKo left. Not sure what to expect, but one thing you can guarantee is everyone on here moaning like **** 10 minutes in Sent from my SM-G920F using Tapatalk

Pamplemousse Posted 12 August, 2017 Posted 12 August, 2017 Interesting revelation from MLT on Soccer Saturday. He says the board offered Puel the chance to stay on as manager this season, so long as he agreed to play more attacking football.

He says the board offered Puel the chance to stay on as manager this season, so long as he agreed to play more attacking football. Old news. Pretty sure Puel all but admitted that himself. Story goes that he was told to go away and think about it, hence the fact his sacking took so long. Fair play to the bloke though, stood by his way of doing things. IMO, Puel left us with a lot more dignity than most sacked managers leave clubs with.
Saintmike5 Posted 12 August, 2017 Posted 12 August, 2017 I think I'm right in saying we've never won a home PL game on the opening day. Hope to buck that trend today, come on Saints!

Can't imagine the board didn't explain the style of football they wanted to see on interviewing him.
striker Posted 12 August, 2017 Posted 12 August, 2017 Thats a pretty good team, if I do say so myself
Saint Albert Posted 12 August, 2017 Posted 12 August, 2017 Tadic should have finished that...great build up by Bertrand and Redmond.
OttawaSaint Posted 12 August, 2017 Posted 12 August, 2017 Ohhh Tadic. Great move, nice pace about it.
OttawaSaint Posted 12 August, 2017 Posted 12 August, 2017 If Tadic could score more of those types of chances he probably would still be with Saints I guess?
Pass the Dutchie Posted 12 August, 2017 Posted 12 August, 2017 Best stream I've found so far: http://www.myfeed4u.net/watch/2148102/1/Southampton-vs-Swansea-City.html
mrfahaji Posted 12 August, 2017 Posted 12 August, 2017 How is everyone watching this? Are you all abroad? I got a couple of Dutchie's links to work for about 20 seconds but now they've frozen...
Saint Albert Posted 12 August, 2017 Posted 12 August, 2017 Big chance for Swansea...Abraham misses his header from a Routledge cross.

kjurwi Posted 12 August, 2017 Posted 12 August, 2017 not to bad stream http://cricfree.sc/watch/live/southampton-vs-swansea-city-live-streaming Not brilliant but ok
Saint Albert Posted 12 August, 2017 Posted 12 August, 2017 Redmond gets a yellow for taking the goalie out as he clears.
OttawaSaint Posted 12 August, 2017 Posted 12 August, 2017 I like the effort but a silly yellow for Redmond.
Saint Albert Posted 12 August, 2017 Posted 12 August, 2017 Decent chance for JWP, deflected for a corner...nice run and feed by Redmond.
Saint Albert Posted 12 August, 2017 Posted 12 August, 2017 We are tormenting them on the left wing...another nice ball by Redmond, JWP scuffs the header and then Redmond pulls a shot wide.
kermitsaint Posted 12 August, 2017 Posted 12 August, 2017 Redmonds shooting hasn't improved in the off season then Sent from my SM-G925I using Tapatalk
Sheaf Saint Posted 12 August, 2017 Posted 12 August, 2017 Well there has been more positive attacking intent from Saints in the first 20 mins here than there was for most of last season at SMS. Great start.
Saint Albert Posted 12 August, 2017 Posted 12 August, 2017 Decent long range effort by Redmond rises about a foot too high...more decent pressure from the left wing, and JWP forces a relatively comfortable save.
Bad Wolf Posted 12 August, 2017 Posted 12 August, 2017 Redmond is one selfish, greedy ****. It'd be fine if he could actually shoot.
JoeShmoe Posted 12 August, 2017 Posted 12 August, 2017 This looks familiar - all over a team 1st half but just cant score ...
OttawaSaint Posted 12 August, 2017 Posted 12 August, 2017 Looked inside the box at first glance. Edit, no foul called.
Saint Albert Posted 12 August, 2017 Posted 12 August, 2017 Tadic gets mugged by Fernandez on the edge of the box...referee does not award a free kick.
SaintZamboni Posted 12 August, 2017 Posted 12 August, 2017 Really encouraged. Just need to find the back of the net!
