Lighthouse Posted 1 August, 2017 Share Posted 1 August, 2017 Not that I'm really anal enough to be bothered about some numbers but they often seem to reflect the first team. Bednarek seems to be going straight in at 6, implying that we're not after a first choice defender. Gabbi at 9 would seem fairly obvious. 12, 15 and 18 all free. The9 Posted 1 August, 2017 Share Posted 1 August, 2017 I'm guessing they haven't announced the numbers because they might be planning on giving Van Dijk 6. Bednarek getting 6 is only a side-effect of their pre-season policy of filling up the spare numbers with young players. No-one's suggesting Callum Slattery will be number 9, and he wore it in Austria.

The9 Posted 1 August, 2017 Share Posted 1 August, 2017 Stephens wore 6 against St Etienne Which pretty much supports my argument that the other numbers aren't significant at the moment. Stephens wore 24 at Brentford with Bednarek wearing 6.

You've answered your own question then - we gave Gardos 5 which by your terms would be "implying" we were not after a first choice defender, but we we were and we signed Toby. How about giving Bednerak 6 is just as relevant? Maybe that.

If that's the case, with him, Yoshida, Virgil, Gardos and Stephens I doubt we're after another.

Diabolus Ex Machina Posted 4 August, 2017 Share Posted 4 August, 2017 Confirmation that Gazzaniga is definitely on his way by his omission? maybe not a surprise seeing Stephens at 5 being it's likely he'll be starting at CB for at least the start of the season. qwertyell Posted 4 August, 2017 Share Posted 4 August, 2017 Always makes me sad to see a player as insufferably crap as Shane Long befoul the glorious Saints number seven shirt. Maybe he/the club didn't want to reimburse all those that had already bought shirts with his old number on. Maybe his contract isn't as lucrative as Frasers to personally refund all those with a new shirt with number 20 on the back, that said I would imagine Gabbi V Fraser shirt sales are significantly larger. Just waiting for the SW resident numpties meltdown at young Jack getting a proper single number on his back confirming him as a regular starting fixture. Over land and sea Posted 15 August, 2018 Share Posted 15 August, 2018 Although the link I posted above was yesterday showing a list of squad numbers for each team - with ours as set out in the previous post - the link is now saying: The 20 Premier League clubs will release the finalised shirt numbers for their squads for the 2018/19 season from early September after the closure of the summer transfer window. So looks list above could perhaps be liable to change. Alfie Jones has gone out on a season loan so will presumably not be listed
