The9 Posted 14 June, 2017 Posted 14 June, 2017 (edited) https://southamptonfc.com/news/2017-06-14/club-statement-claude-puel-southampton I'm quite disappointed, tbh. A lot of people won't be. No lose situation for the incoming boss. Edited 14 June, 2017 by The9
gphutchings Posted 14 June, 2017 Posted 14 June, 2017 Pleeeease be Tuchel......It wont be though. My money is on Brendan Rogers. He tried to get out of his Celtic contract to come to us last time. Sent from my SM-G928F using Tapatalk
Dusic Posted 14 June, 2017 Posted 14 June, 2017 Feel for Clode as seemed an honest guy but right decision. Les and Willo need to make a better decision than last time. Pressure is on them.
Saints foreva Posted 14 June, 2017 Posted 14 June, 2017 Cheers for Wembley Claude, despite the result - being involved in the scenes when we made it 2-2 was a special moment. Hopefully the new man can turn St. Mary's into a fortress.
bpsaint Posted 14 June, 2017 Posted 14 June, 2017 Good riddance Claude, you were probably a nice bloke but watching saints felt like a chore at times last season. Roll on next season....
IOWSaintDaz Posted 14 June, 2017 Posted 14 June, 2017 Great news, I can now get my season ticket, hopefully will announce Tuchel soon I'm sure the vast majority of fans will rejoice this news and will be looking forward to a more normal style of play next season and the players can re-capture the team spirit of past seasons
benjii Posted 14 June, 2017 Posted 14 June, 2017 Bit harsh but not exactly a problem. I would expect an appointment pretty soon then.
krissyboy31 Posted 14 June, 2017 Posted 14 June, 2017 Worst kept secret ever. Why not announce it 2 weeks ago?
Heisenberg Posted 14 June, 2017 Posted 14 June, 2017 Ticket seasons boost right there. Onwards n upwards - don't gamble again Leslie. Go get Tuchel
Ivan Katalinic's 'tache Posted 14 June, 2017 Posted 14 June, 2017 Thank you for the Cup Final Claude and for seemingly being a decent fella. I won't however miss some of the dullest football I've ever seen at Saints.
Yorkshire Saint Posted 14 June, 2017 Posted 14 June, 2017 Mixed emotions .. a season of special memories, Milan, Wembley, Prague, Anfield .. but so many unhappy players and fans ... worst of all, Black !!
St Chalet Posted 14 June, 2017 Posted 14 June, 2017 Thank you for the Cup Final Claude and for seemingly being a decent fella. I won't however miss some of the dullest football I've ever seen at Saints. This
beatlesaint Posted 14 June, 2017 Posted 14 June, 2017 I feel a bit bad for being pleased, he's probably a decent bloke, but **** me most of what we saw at home was bloody boring, negative, awful.
Lighthouse Posted 14 June, 2017 Posted 14 June, 2017 I will fondly remember the cup run but the way he set out, especially at home, was inexcusable. When you're winning a corner at home to Hull or Bournemouth and end up passing it back to your own 'keeper it makes for some pretty boring viewing.
CB Fry Posted 14 June, 2017 Posted 14 June, 2017 I found out in the greatest way possible - via the "Alan's Available" Curbishley Twitter feed. True story. About time. I expect the replacement announcement to be almost immediate considering the amount of time this has taken.
Viking Saint Posted 14 June, 2017 Posted 14 June, 2017 Thank you for the Cup Final Claude and for seemingly being a decent fella. I won't however miss some of the dullest football I've ever seen at Saints. This. Exactly this. Wish him all the best for the future though.
shurlock Posted 14 June, 2017 Posted 14 June, 2017 (edited) Mixed feelings - the season could have been better; it could have been worse -and it certainly could have been more entertaining. Hope the club and Uncle Les are honest enough to admit that things begin with recruitment and the quality of the squad. Edited 14 June, 2017 by shurlock
Katalinic Posted 14 June, 2017 Posted 14 June, 2017 Never the right fit imo but he did his best. The football was boring though.
Saint Garrett Posted 14 June, 2017 Posted 14 June, 2017 Thanks for the memories Claude, unfortunately the day to day matches were just not good enough. Time for Tuchel...?
Manuel Posted 14 June, 2017 Posted 14 June, 2017 Never really got the players motoring in the league. The difference for me was how they performed in the cup final (ok, albeit losing) compared to some lacklustre league performances. Perhaps the players are as much to blame but ultimately it's gotta rest with Puel. Enjoyed his goal celebrations very much.
Didcot Saint Posted 14 June, 2017 Posted 14 June, 2017 Is Black going too? Hes as much to blame for the crap football as Puel.
Wimborne_saint Posted 14 June, 2017 Posted 14 June, 2017 Feel bad for Claude - a decent man and didn't deserve some of the harsh words. Job just wasn't the right fit - hope he gets the saint ettiene job Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
krissyboy31 Posted 14 June, 2017 Posted 14 June, 2017 Mixed emotions .. a season of special memories, Milan, Wembley, Prague, Anfield .. but so many unhappy players and fans ... worst of all, Black !! Not a fan of him being promoted to head honcho then?
Saint_clark Posted 14 June, 2017 Posted 14 June, 2017 Well I would have supported him another season but not massively disappointed. Only reason for us to wait so long is because we've actually got someone lined up now...
Nolan Posted 14 June, 2017 Posted 14 June, 2017 Curious timing. I thought we were long past the days of 10pm announcements Sent from my Nexus 6P using Tapatalk
corky morris Posted 14 June, 2017 Posted 14 June, 2017 Good luck in the future Claude. The football was just too pedestrian & dull............................
hypochondriac Posted 14 June, 2017 Posted 14 June, 2017 Can't say I'm upset. The football was dire at times and he didn't have much of a spark. It felt like a chore going to home games on many occasions. Still, I thought he wasnt too bad. Now let's go for someone ambitious like koeman again.
Wade Garrett Posted 14 June, 2017 Posted 14 June, 2017 I found out in the greatest way possible - via the "Alan's Available" Curbishley Twitter feed. True story. About time. I expect the replacement announcement to be almost immediate considering the amount of time this has taken. That's a reasonable assumption.
trousers Posted 14 June, 2017 Posted 14 June, 2017 Whilst I consider this to be a harsh decision, all things considered, it does however 'feel' right given that he'd obviously lost the support of a significant proportion of the fanbase and, if the rumours are true, some of the dressing room too. Best of luck in your future endeavours Claude, and thanks for some memorable highlights last season. Merci. Bon soir
Wimborne_saint Posted 14 June, 2017 Posted 14 June, 2017 Tuchel to be announced tomorrow wearing the new kit [emoji6] Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Smirking_Saint Posted 14 June, 2017 Posted 14 June, 2017 I dont really know where my head is, hard to be excited about sacking a guy that did ok, but ultimately my heart says its the right choice. Plus, Id fall into a coma watching his tactics next year. Itll ultimately fall on our next appointment though, so lets hope it's successful I do need to question why we have to go through this crap every bloody year

Spoonman Posted 14 June, 2017 Posted 14 June, 2017 Shame it didn't work out, hope the new geezer can get us firing again
kwsaint Posted 14 June, 2017 Posted 14 June, 2017 Agree with most of the comments above. Decent bloke, in the wrong job. Just wasn't a good fit and the football at home was so boring. Just hope that they get the right manager this time round. Need someone who will give the club a lift
Forester Posted 14 June, 2017 Posted 14 June, 2017 Sad for Puel, was a long term appointment and 8th and a cup final is far from a disaster despite some poor home performances. If it had to happen then it's good to get it done. However we are gambling and the downsides are significant. Life gets much worse than this as a Saints fan. Finally the club have shown, along with most others, that loyalty is a thing of the past so we should not bleat if a manager or player does well and wants to break their contract and leave early. It cuts both ways.....
tobes8 Posted 14 June, 2017 Posted 14 June, 2017 Take it Black is a gogo too??? I'd have thought so. Generally new managers want their own team. Probably a decent coach but couldn't get to grips with the English game. Hope he does well back in France but now can look at next season with a little more optimism.
vectraman Posted 14 June, 2017 Posted 14 June, 2017 I feel a bit bad for being pleased, he's probably a decent bloke, but **** me most of what we saw at home was bloody boring, negative, awful. Agreed. Feel a bit sorry for him, but style of play was his downfall sadly. All the best for the future Claude. Next...
aintforever Posted 14 June, 2017 Posted 14 June, 2017 Why have they waited so long and wasted so much time? Hope the replacement is in place very quickly, other clubs are already making signings.
Lighthouse Posted 14 June, 2017 Posted 14 June, 2017 Why have they waited so long and wasted so much time? Hope the replacement is in place very quickly, other clubs are already making signings. You would hope it's because they waited until they were fairly sure a replacement was lined up. Last thing we want is a repeat of the Fonte fiasco, desperately offering Curbishley a 1 year deal a week before the season starts.
SuperSAINT Posted 14 June, 2017 Posted 14 June, 2017 I feel sad for Claude. A nice man, good coach, but had bad luck with injuries and largely too conservative in his style. What I'm most happy about is we get to move forward now without being in this weird Twilight zone that we've been in since the season ended.
View From The Top Posted 14 June, 2017 Posted 14 June, 2017 He did his best but came up short. It happens. I'll always be grateful for the semi final at Anfield.
Norm Posted 14 June, 2017 Posted 14 June, 2017 Hopefully the new coach in, whoever it is, has a clear out of coaching staff.
