dogger Posted 6 June, 2017 Posted 6 June, 2017 The reason the club has made no statement is because it is illegal for a football club to approach a player directly who is under contract with another football club Currently under both the transfer rules established by FIFA and the Football Association followed by the clubs playing in England if another club wants to procure the services of a player that is registered with another club they must speak directly with that club and not to the player or his agent. The individual player and the agent who represents him will only be brought in for discussions with the potential purchasing club once the two clubs have agreed on a fee. so rest assured Virgil and the rest of the squad will be playing at Southampton FC next season the club made a statement when they released 4 players

doddisalegend Posted 6 June, 2017 Posted 6 June, 2017 Yeah I think we can dispense with the idea that footballing authorities give a flying **** about tapping up...
GGalpin Posted 6 June, 2017 Posted 6 June, 2017 Hope you don't alert FIFA's transfer police to this then: http://www.insidefutbol.com/2017/01/26/southampton-reach-personal-term-agreement-with-west-brom-target/323437/

Saints approach Napoli and ask whether they can talk to the player. They get permission, agree terms with the player, and then go back to Napoli and try and agree terms with them. It is not as you suggest, going behind Napoli's back.
