Lighthouse Posted 1 June, 2017 Posted 1 June, 2017 Sounds like some weird hybrid of Poch, Pelle and General Belgrano.
Cartman Posted 2 June, 2017 Posted 2 June, 2017 If we let Pellegrino end up at Palace, Les damn well better get Tuchel.
Saint Albert Posted 2 June, 2017 Posted 2 June, 2017 According to the Independent Pellegrino's on Palace's list but is resolving personal issues in Argentina and may not be ready for a quick return to management. Dyche is interested in the Palace job: http://www.independent.co.uk/sport/football/premier-league/crystal-palace-new-manager-sean-dyche-wants-to-take-over-a7767901.html
leeham_69 Posted 2 June, 2017 Posted 2 June, 2017 why does everyone call him pellegrino?! is it a joke i don't get?! is he made of refreshing italian springwater?! note: it's obviously also manuel. i never thought a message board could incite insecurities about my own idiocy.

Stop worrying. The joke is not so much obscure as opaque.
suewhistle Posted 2 June, 2017 Posted 2 June, 2017 Pellegrino is currently on a pilgrimage between various clubs. Perhaps he'll end up at St James', maybe he'll end up a saint. Who knows, I really should get on with my work.
Matthew Le Tissier Posted 16 June, 2017 Author Posted 16 June, 2017 Why? Glad I backed him at 25/1 a few weeks back. 3/1 joint fav niw
red&white56 Posted 17 June, 2017 Posted 17 June, 2017 For a bit of fun I looked up the win ratios (as a manager) of the following past and proposed Saints managers C.Puel 42% M.Pellegrino 43% S.Dyche 39% T.Puchel 49% R.Koeman 54% M.Pochettino 42% N.Adkins 44% Based on this information, and this alone, I'm not sure Dyche is the right target. Pellegrino could turn out to be Claude - not growing in this role or Poch - who positively surprised everyone despite his lack lustre record (Poch's win ratio was only in the high 30's before he moved to Tottenham where his successes have improved his stats). But if not him, who else?
AK Posted 18 June, 2017 Posted 18 June, 2017 According to a snippet in The Times today he wants The Palace job not the one at Saints.
Beckenham Saint Posted 18 June, 2017 Posted 18 June, 2017 According to a snippet in The Times today he wants The Palace job not the one at Saints. finally, some good news
Dusic Posted 18 June, 2017 Posted 18 June, 2017 finally, some good news Why is that? Surely if Reed wants him then it would be better if we could get him?
Badger Posted 18 June, 2017 Posted 18 June, 2017 Looks pretty indifferent from what I've read about him, but then again Poch didn't 'stand out' from his CV.
leeham_69 Posted 18 June, 2017 Posted 18 June, 2017 Someone at wikipedia seems confident he's the man:
saint lard Posted 18 June, 2017 Posted 18 June, 2017 The names being touted fill me with dread more than optimism. Not sure even 'best of a bad lot' is applicable. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk This form the man that touted Monk and Beattie as our saviours. You got what you wanted with Puel gone, and now don't like the options available. Well boo hoo.

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk I think the phrase "every single one of them better than your dream candidate Garry Monk" is definitely applicable.
Wade Garrett Posted 18 June, 2017 Posted 18 June, 2017 I've heard Pellegrino is quite a negative coach. Anyone know? I haven't got a clue.
Maggie May Posted 18 June, 2017 Posted 18 June, 2017 He's the one, lads https://www.thesun.co.uk/sport/football/3823873/mauricio-pellegrino-southampton/
Wade Garrett Posted 18 June, 2017 Posted 18 June, 2017 He's the one, lads https://www.thesun.co.uk/sport/football/3823873/mauricio-pellegrino-southampton/ The 'quotes' in that article suggest he will have a 'tight' budget, and they would be happy if he got poached a little further down the line like Poch.
Wade Garrett Posted 18 June, 2017 Posted 18 June, 2017 (edited) To be fair, the quotes may be made up bullsh*t. Edited 18 June, 2017 by Wade Garrett
mikec Posted 18 June, 2017 Posted 18 June, 2017 Someone at wikipedia seems confident he's the man: "Someone at wikipedia" just means "someone with an internet connection".
stknowle Posted 18 June, 2017 Posted 18 June, 2017 finally, some good news Yeah, finally some good news!!!
shurlock Posted 18 June, 2017 Posted 18 June, 2017 Uncle Les hoping that lightening will strike twice? Is that what the black box does these days?
the saint in winchester Posted 18 June, 2017 Posted 18 June, 2017 Can we call him MoPo? No, it's MoPe (mow-pay), but if he's no good, he'll be on his moped!
Sidney Fudpucker the 3rd Posted 18 June, 2017 Posted 18 June, 2017 Just read this... Scoring goals was what Alaves found most difficult last season, netting just 41 times. Only three teams in La Liga scored fewer and two of those sides – Granada and Osasuna - were relegated. But the considerable flip side was that they only let in 43 – only three sides conceded fewer, the champions Madrid let in 41. Scoring goals was our biggest problem last season too and is probably the main reason why Puel's gone. Why would we want to replace Puel with somebody whose record doesn't appear to be much better? Makes no sense at all.

SuperSAINT Posted 18 June, 2017 Posted 18 June, 2017 This is a slightly pedantic point, so I apologise in advance -- But can we fix the spelling of his name in the thread title, please?
disconnect Posted 18 June, 2017 Posted 18 June, 2017 Would rather Pellegrini (mostly as know nothing about this guy other than he played for Liverpool for a short while)

Spotter's Guide for the easily confused. Manuel Pellegrini: Mauricio Pellegrino: (can't see any future problems here) San Pellegrino: Mauricio Pochettino:
Oldeuboi Posted 18 June, 2017 Posted 18 June, 2017 Alaves played long ball 11 men behind the ball football last season. Got results but much prefer being a team that keeps the ball. Wouldn't be anything close to an upgrade.

saint lard Posted 18 June, 2017 Posted 18 June, 2017 He favours a move to Palace I think. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
St Marco Posted 18 June, 2017 Posted 18 June, 2017 Not sure about him tbh. Whoever comes in will get my backing. But he doesn't like to stay at a club for long. I think I read he has been at 3 clubs in the last two years which doesn't strike me as 'stability'. Maybe he knew he couldn't do any better at Alves so was time to jump whilst his reputation was ok. Problem is he would probably do the same to us. I would prefer someone to come in who wants to be here for a good few years and build something good.

Get him, and Jon Walters, in in in.

Unless Le Tissier can become our coach no one will be here a good few years and then build something. All would jump ship if a top 6 club offered a vacancy because we were doing well

If our next manager buggers off to Arsenal in two years time, that'll be because he's done a brilliant job. Fine by me.

Monkou Posted 19 June, 2017 Posted 19 June, 2017 If he improves on what Puel achieved last year I will be absolutely amazed.
