ALWAYS_SFC Posted 31 May, 2017 Posted 31 May, 2017 Are his interviews entertaining? After all, that's really important. Its a possibility
SuperSAINT Posted 31 May, 2017 Posted 31 May, 2017 Are there any better links than from a random French Journo, and then a load of junior's copying & pasting that French journo?
doddisalegend Posted 31 May, 2017 Posted 31 May, 2017 Are his interviews entertaining? After all, that's really important. well he is smiling after just losing to Liverpool in this one [video=youtube;N6R9-4XENd8]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N6R9-4XENd8
Pamplemousse Posted 31 May, 2017 Posted 31 May, 2017 Are there any better links than from a random French Journo, and then a load of junior's copying & pasting that French journo? No. This journalist is the only one so far. And just a one line throw away comment I do feel that we're getting carried away a bit here
OldNick Posted 31 May, 2017 Posted 31 May, 2017 I dont play these football manager games on Xbox etc and so dont know who these people are.
Matthew Le God Posted 31 May, 2017 Posted 31 May, 2017 I dont play these football manager games on Xbox etc and so dont know who these people are. He was the manager for one of the biggest clubs in world football, he isn't particularly obscure.
buctootim Posted 31 May, 2017 Posted 31 May, 2017 Puel has done as well as can be expected given Rodrigues not performing and Austin being injured - I'd happily keep him on. That said Tuchel would be an upgrade.
SKD Posted 31 May, 2017 Posted 31 May, 2017 Nope, take with a massive pinch of salt. I would have thought he is on our list though? At least give it a go...
Saint_clark Posted 31 May, 2017 Posted 31 May, 2017 would have to be a massive shift in club policy for Tuchel to come in Not really. Young, promising manager, not world class so not beyond us, not with a club so wouldn't cost us any compensation...

That said Tuchel would be an upgrade. He hasn't done as well as can be expected, I expected us to score more than 17 goals at home this season.
Avenue_Saint Posted 31 May, 2017 Posted 31 May, 2017 Journo saying Tuchel wants premier league. Hopefully it all comes off
ToreSF Posted 31 May, 2017 Posted 31 May, 2017 Obviously would be super stoked for Tuchel (although I don't think he will come here), even though it means he will be off to bigger and better if he performs.
angelman Posted 31 May, 2017 Posted 31 May, 2017 Journo saying Tuchel wants premier league. Hopefully it all comes off No vacancies anywhere. So looking at the top 7, they seem unlikely to be changing unless Koeman decides to leave. Which leaves the rest. West Ham, while they seem OK with Bilic maybe, would probably be a better job than us even if you have to deal with dildos. Palace is vacant, and they seem to be splashing the cash. Apart from that it is us.
Convict Colony Posted 31 May, 2017 Posted 31 May, 2017 People seem to forget he was Mainz manager, went to Dortmund and now has been sacked. He isn't a long term big team manager and is to a certain extent "damaged goods" so will need to rebuild his stock and I would assume he wants to do that outside of Germany after his whole career has been there so has baggage.

Sounds ideal for us given that we're not a big team and he'll be taken from us if he is any good. Sign him up!

Not sure how much input Kat has but not inconcievable to think, German owner- German manager, could be an added incentive (clutching somewhat maybe)

Saint_Ash Posted 31 May, 2017 Posted 31 May, 2017 Just like it's the players that have underperformed this season then, not the manager? That's how it works for people with a hatred of a manager regardless. If the team does well it's the players if they do poor It's the managers fault. Like all those penalties that Puel missed this season that lost us points.

He isn't a long term big team manager and is to a certain extent "damaged goods" so will need to rebuild his stock and I would assume he wants to do that outside of Germany after his whole career has been there so has baggage. Damaged goods... Look at his record at Dortmund, in two season's, he finished 2nd & 3rd, reached the final of the German Cup both seasons (won one & lost one), and reached the quarter final of the Europa League in his first season & the quarter final of this seasons Champions League. At Mainz, in five seasons they finished 9th, 5th (their highest ever finish in the Bundesliga), 13th, 13th & 9th which is pretty good for a club that traditionally finished in the bottom half of the top division or top half of the second division. Does that mean that Jose Mourinho is damaged goods by being sacked by Chelsea and Real Madrid? He would be an amazing appointment, whether he will fit in with the board is the issue.

Sorry but Puel has to take some of the blame for the ridiculous perceverance with Tadic on pens....
VectisSaint Posted 31 May, 2017 Posted 31 May, 2017 Sorry but Puel has to take some of the blame for the ridiculous perceverance with Tadic on pens.... Persevered with Tadic to the extent that Long and Gabbi took them and missed. Puel is responsible for a lot of bad stuff but blaming him for persevering with Tadic on pens takes the biscuit.

Puel is responsible for a lot of bad stuff but blaming him for persevering with Tadic on pens takes the biscuit. Not with a supposedly super duper dead ball specialist in the side such as JWP.

tajjuk Posted 31 May, 2017 Posted 31 May, 2017 To be fair, we are only little old Southampton, but we are financial solid, have a good set up behind the scenes, decent stadium and are not in dissaray like most clubs will be looking for a new manager, so there are worst jobs around.
Manuel Posted 31 May, 2017 Posted 31 May, 2017 Are his interviews entertaining? After all, that's really important. His English is excellent, and that counts for something! Would be a coup but expect he'll get better offers elsewhere.
VectisSaint Posted 31 May, 2017 Posted 31 May, 2017 Hardly drama queen! What? So pointing out that what you posted is complete and utter nonsense (Tadic took 3 pens this season, miss v Inter week 11, scored v Leicester week 21 and missed v Hull week 34) makes me a drama queen does it? How so? Perhaps you don't know what a drama queen is (if you want some help Tadic is a drama queen). Really don't understand people that post complete and utter nonsense, and even worse can't accept it when their nonsense is shown so easily to be complete ********. Blame Puel all you like, I am not happy with him, but at least blame him for things he actually did wrong (there are plenty to choose from). Drama queen, think I've heard it all now.

Austin knew..that's why he took the ball off him to take that penalty himself...Austin for manager!
Andy Durman Posted 31 May, 2017 Posted 31 May, 2017 Tuchel would be an incredible show of intent by Saints. Champions league would be a real possibility next season. I think Les will pull this off.
CB Fry Posted 1 June, 2017 Posted 1 June, 2017 It's made it into The Sun. The mini-poll on the site is still on a knife edge with only 92% saying he would be a better appointment than Claude. https://www.thesun.co.uk/sport/football/3687981/southampton-new-manager-thomas-tuchel/
angelman Posted 1 June, 2017 Posted 1 June, 2017 CB, problem with that article is that it starts "Ambitious Saints" but as we all know, we lack ambition.
shurlock Posted 1 June, 2017 Posted 1 June, 2017 I can't imagine he would be interested tbh. Agree. Either way, it's good publicity for Uncle Les and club. Shows we're trying.
Patrick Bateman Posted 1 June, 2017 Posted 1 June, 2017 I can see the Sky & BBC borefest with it now ... Tuchel vs Klopp. "Best league in the world" as the "best managers in the world" all play each other ... zzzzzzzzz
redkeith Posted 1 June, 2017 Posted 1 June, 2017 With Wenger sigingn his new 2 year deal, doing well at Saints could be a good audition for the Arsenal job .
verlaine1979 Posted 1 June, 2017 Posted 1 June, 2017 Agree. Either way, it's good publicity for Uncle Les and club. Shows we're trying. Yup - he was happy to be unemployed for a year waiting for the right job after Mainz. He's obviously from the Theresa May school of job negotiation - no deal is better than a bad deal.
verlaine1979 Posted 1 June, 2017 Posted 1 June, 2017 With Wenger sigingn his new 2 year deal, doing well at Saints could be a good audition for the Arsenal job . If Arsenal had decided to get rid of Wenger this summer, Tuchel would already be on the list. Going to somewhere like Saints in the interim would actually be far more of a risk to his career than sitting on his hands for 12 months and waiting to see which of the big clubs need a new manager next season. He did his audition at Mainz years ago, he's not going to do it again.
Pilchards Posted 1 June, 2017 Posted 1 June, 2017 With Wenger sigingn his new 2 year deal, doing well at Saints could be a good audition for the Arsenal job . Maybe we should get Arsenal to pay his wages so we can bed him in the premiership for them
Turkish Posted 1 June, 2017 Posted 1 June, 2017 One thing we do have in our favour is that Tuchel will be use to large passionate home ends having been manager of Dortmund. He will no doubt be better equipped than most managers for the passion that cascades down the terrace of the chapel Kop. Although nothing can quite prepare you for the electric atmosphere inside the St Marys cauldron of bantz, Tuchel of all the managers in Europe he will probably be one who would be most used to it having experienced a more dumbed down version in the Westfalenstadion.
Bad Wolf Posted 1 June, 2017 Posted 1 June, 2017 I have no problem with him using us as a stepping stone. It just means there's more motivation to do well. I'd rather that than someone who sees Saints as the biggest job they'll ever have and the pinnacle of their career.

Avenue_Saint Posted 1 June, 2017 Posted 1 June, 2017 Except Kat isn't German So if your dad moves you and your family to Australia for work, will referring to you as English become a pedant's play field you think?
Saint Albert Posted 1 June, 2017 Posted 1 June, 2017 We tend to laugh at teams like West Ham an Everton when they waste time in the summer pursuing unrealistic targets.

Saint IQ Posted 1 June, 2017 Posted 1 June, 2017 Tuchel is going Leverkusen...Close Thread. Why would you leave Dortmund for Leverkusen?
Matthew Le God Posted 1 June, 2017 Posted 1 June, 2017 Why would you leave Dortmund for Leverkusen? Tuchel was effectively sacked, he didn't have a lot of choice over leaving Dortmund.
