Nordic Saint Posted 15 May, 2017 Posted 15 May, 2017 How on earth does he keep his job as a TV pundit? He is scruffy, unpleasant and his biased predictions are totally ridiculous. Based on his predictions for all Saints games this season, we'd have finished below Sunderland on 28 points, while Liverpool, of course, would have won the league easily. http://www.givemesport.com/1054136-the-table-based-on-mark-lawrensons-predictions-is-actually-ridiculous?autoplay=on&%3Butm_source=Facebook&%3Butm_medium=Paid-Social&%3Butm_campaign=1054136

angelman Posted 15 May, 2017 Posted 15 May, 2017 Running a rank correlation on the table position from his guesses, it gives a positive coefficient of 0.8977 which TBH is pretty bloody good. A coefficient of 1 would be him being 100% correct, 0 would be 50:50 and -1 would be 100% incorrect.
doddisalegend Posted 16 May, 2017 Posted 16 May, 2017 He always comes across as a bit of helmet but really its just punditry nothing worth getting your knickers in a twist over. Is he any worse than Garth crooks and his frequently bizarre teams of the week?

He doesn't predict them all in one go so easy to correct overall table accuracy by predicting to ensure you get closer to real table
whelk Posted 16 May, 2017 Posted 16 May, 2017 I heard West Ham fans took out a contract out on him last season such was their outrage and disgust.
Kenilworthy Posted 16 May, 2017 Posted 16 May, 2017 What he has carefully airbrushed from his record is his time as Oxford manager when he took them down
beatlesaint Posted 16 May, 2017 Posted 16 May, 2017 What channel is a pundit on now then ? Havent seen him on MOTD for it seems like years and he isnt on Sky. Has he joined the Liverpool love in on BT ?
rooney Posted 16 May, 2017 Posted 16 May, 2017 Discard him to the Bin with the two other knowalls, Gale and Cascarino.
mrfahaji Posted 16 May, 2017 Posted 16 May, 2017 (edited) Not this again... While we're at it, has anyone worked out whether 8th can qualify for Europa? Edited 16 May, 2017 by mrfahaji
Marino Posted 16 May, 2017 Posted 16 May, 2017 Yes he can be annoying - aren't we all - but I have grown to like him, especially when he is the colour commentator on the radio.
DT Posted 16 May, 2017 Posted 16 May, 2017 Not this again... While we're at it, has anyone worked out whether 8th can qualify for Europa? i don't think it does. http://www.skysports.com/football/news/11661/10879198/which-european-competitions-will-premier-league-clubs-be-playing-in-next-season
angelman Posted 16 May, 2017 Posted 16 May, 2017 Everton in 3rd qualifying round. First leg is 27th July, with the return being 3rd August. PL kicks off on 12th August.

The Cat Posted 16 May, 2017 Posted 16 May, 2017 What channel is a pundit on now then ? Havent seen him on MOTD for it seems like years and he isnt on Sky. Has he joined the Liverpool love in on BT ? He pops up as co-commentator on 5live a bit still I think.

Has he joined the Liverpool love in on BT ? He is more often on the Premier League Show and Football Focus these days, highlighting his forecasting abilities. Bit ironic that this thread appears this week, one of the few when Lawro correctly predicted our score.
Dark Munster Posted 16 May, 2017 Posted 16 May, 2017 Everton in 3rd qualifying round. First leg is 27th July, with the return being 3rd August. PL kicks off on 12th August. If Utd win EL and hence get into the CL I'm guessing Everton may go straight into the group stage (taking Utd's higher EL spot?)
Noodles34 Posted 16 May, 2017 Posted 16 May, 2017 Only if Millwall get promoted. Anyway, doesn't Lawro bat for the other side?
equalizer Posted 17 May, 2017 Posted 17 May, 2017 If you ever meet Mark Lawrenson, mention Robin Friday, and watch his face! From Wiki, not the most reliable of sources I know, but if he did take a dump in Lawro's kit bag then bravo sir! "Friday was marked during the game by Mark Lawrenson, who so frustrated the Cardiff forward with his close attention that Friday waited for Lawrenson to attempt a slide tackle and then kicked him in the face. After receiving a red card, Friday left the ground with the game still going on; according to legend, before leaving he broke into the Brighton dressing room and defecated in Lawrenson's kit bag."
doddisalegend Posted 19 May, 2017 Posted 19 May, 2017 His last prediction of the season Southampton v Stoke Southampton are guaranteed a top-half finish and can make sure of a top-eight finish with a win, which underlines that they have had another very good season. Stoke's form has been heading in a downhill direction for a while now but the nature of the last day of the season always throws up some unexpected results, and I think this game will provide one of them. Lawro's prediction: 1-2
