JRM Posted 11 May, 2017 Share Posted 11 May, 2017 By the time we kick off on Saturday West Brom and Leicester would have already played. With a bit of luck Chelsea will win at the Hawthorns on Friday night, Man City will beat Leicester Saturday lunchtime and they players would know walking out at the Riverside that a win would lift us to level with WBA, possibly above them depending on how many they lose by and how many we win by. Will make it an exciting game in the race for 8th. i like the opening post on this thread from a Boro fan https://www.oneboro.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?tid=8576
Secret Site Agent Posted 11 May, 2017 Share Posted 11 May, 2017 I think it'll be a snoozefest at 0 - 0. That's why it'll probably be a 5-4 loss to us. We should do a deal. They let us win 9-0 We give them JRod on a season long loan win-win. We beat a record And Jrod will probably score for fun. Plus Joey Barton could put some wedge on for them with the local turf accountant.

Pamplemousse Posted 11 May, 2017 Share Posted 11 May, 2017 Hopefully we'll see the Puel side that put four past Sunderland and Watford in consecutive matches We've been decent away from home, so that's in our favour. Anything other than a win would be a poor result. The players need to up their game. Hopefully there will be considerable 'rotation' for this match. Can remember so many more good away performances than home. I wonder if our struggles at home are starting to become a little psychological? I'm seemingly in the minority to think we're not miles and miles away, we need a few tweaks personal wise and tactically, we don't need to reinvent the wheel. We're not Sunderland levels of ****ness. eelpie Posted 11 May, 2017 Share Posted 11 May, 2017 Ha ha. I actually think we might score some goals in this one. Boro have nothing to lose and will probably be up for it. Gabbi to find space, 1-3 Saints. An interesting one this. Many relegated teams put on a good response, free from fear of losing. Do we go all out for attack, or clam-up for a 0-0 yawn? If we don't win we could slip down two or three places, and that could be that for a top ten finish. 1-0 Borough I'm afraid, their winner scored by Gaston of course. derry Posted 11 May, 2017 Share Posted 11 May, 2017 It doesn't matter what the result is, my mate decided last night after the game that he's going to save £1800 for himself, wife and daughter because of the performances at home. He will renew if Puel leaves. I feel like he does but I just hope for something better. We have the players without VVD and Austin that can make up a very strong competitive team. Puel by picking non scoring lightweights all together is causing the lack of goals problem. Pick one or two if he has to, not four or five. Time to give Rodriguez, Long and Gabbiadini plus Austin when available the chance to play together and give Hojbjerg and or Clasie a go because they did well at WBA. We should win this one but it would only paper over the cracks. I'm not holding my breath. It might be a surprise to Puel but I bet the bosses are worrying about the attitude of the supporters. I'd be surprised if there aren't a fair number not renewing. I hope he is on borrowed time.

Batman Posted 11 May, 2017 Share Posted 11 May, 2017 (edited) Boro have won just 4 of the last 24. 0-3 to us Gabbi hattrick i wonder if gabbi will regress further? anyway, Puel's presser for the big clash against Boro... No new injuries after the arsenal game we will see how the recovery has gone, but this is the 3rd game of the week this is the 3rd game in the week and we have played this many games before but it is difficult to play 3 games in a week at the end of the season They will have a full weeks rest They have a good balance and they are physically fit it is a tough game to prepare for, they now play with no pressure we have to have good concentration and is a very important game for us we must have a good result against boro to set us up for 2 home games we want a good finish to finish top half of the table which is very important for us we must improve the squad to cope with 3 games in a week I was disappointed after the game, we wanted a good result against them we have put in place the basics as this style is our philosophy we just need more consistency, we try to finish this season well we have played well this season and lots of good work from training has gone on the pitch just frustrating at times we need to win more games, we have more quality and have to win more than we have improvement is needed around the box the season is not finished, so I cannot speak about the season as a whole it is now a 3 game season, we need to be better and finish well the players have improved this season and we validated with our philosophy it is a shame we have not scored more, we have more quality than what is shown we play well as we did last night but we could not validate that with the result we wanted we work hard to improve our squad again, it is a 3 game season and it is very important we finish well and be as strong as possible after the season, it will be time to speak about other things we have to finish top half of the table we were strong in the cup final and now we have to be clear what we want for next season we will talk about that after the season we are professional and we will try to finish strong against Hull, it was not enough all of the games after the cup final, we have played well but not scored enough the attitude of the players has been fantastic but we must finish strongly, the players deserve it What we do is a collective work and we define southampton all the way down to the academy they try to keep good possession and it is more than one game for them also many many of our games we have shown quality and great memories the cup final, liverpool in the cups, Inter Milan we do not concede many goals just do not score and this must improve, we need a better clinical edge in the 2nd half of the season, Yoshida, Stephens have improved and that has been fantastic. They were not starting players it will be interesting to see how other young players progress but we are all frustrated with the results it has been difficult for Boufal this season joined with an injury and injured again in the winter he needs to improve, he is a talented player he can do different things he is learning good structure and discipline and has a good attitude in the last month he has had good game time with the team it has been his 1st season and he has learned a lot he will be fantastic next season he highlights the strong finish required, top half finish and 3 game season? also, about talking after the season about 'other things' and did not comment too much (when asked) about his thoughts on what he will do next season also, happy with the philosophy we now have!!! Dangermouth Posted 11 May, 2017 Share Posted 11 May, 2017 We'll win at least 3-0. They'll be dispirited, the fans will turn against them and the manager will play some of the youth players to give them game time and stop the valuable assets being injured. Hats off to anyone who wants to go all that way though.

Davis is the captain he won't get dropped I'd push him further up the pitch rather than playing him as a holding player and give Tadic a rest as he has been terrible recently. verlaine1979 Posted 12 May, 2017 Share Posted 12 May, 2017 Davis is the captain he won't get dropped I'd push him further up the pitch rather than playing him as a holding player and give Tadic a rest as he has been terrible recently. And this is becoming a problem. Tadic, Redmond and Boufal have all been ropey of late, and are all subject to the pressure of being replaced, while JWP chops in and out of the side. Regardless of how you rate his long term career at Saints, Davis has been just as flakey as any of those, but is an immediate pick through the captaincy, even when Clasie arguably put in a far better performance than any he's managed as a defensive midfielder (and scored a cracking goal as well). If the captain is going to be undroppable, you'd better make sure you pick someone who never deserves to be dropped.
