U23s relegation decider

Obviously very important to the club to stay in the top division of PL2 as since the status became uncertain the team has been filled with more and more first team squad members, albeit with little success.

Tonight we face Man City with Hassen, McQueen, Gardos, Pied, Targett, Reed, Austin and likely others who have featured in the first team setup this season.

Big game. Bit embarassing for the Academy if we get relegated as well as being pretty dire in the U18 league too. Plus knock on impact that our young players and fringe squad members play poorer opposition next season. Hardly good prep for their first team chances.

Our development teams have been pretty unsuccessful for years now. It's really not that big of a problem - at that level you're trying to develop individual talent, it really doesn't matter how well they work as a team given that some of them will be very talented and some will be sh*te.

I think it's more that they insist on playing the year below in each team. So the U23 is full of the U18 and the U18 full of the U16 etc. Maybe I'm wrong but I'm sure that's what I read!?

well yeah because player like JWP, Redmond, PEH for example all eligible to play without us using the 3+ over 23 rule- we could put a stronger team out but goal is to get them into first team, not win a tinpot league!

Then again, I say the word tinpot but I remember us celebrating winning the u23 PL Cup quite rather heavily a year or two ago!

So do we go down to the Championship 2 or something?

Our lads play against other Academy teams who aren't deemed as good as those in the first division. All those who say the point of U23 games is to develop players rather than win are right. But the issue is that players develop quicker when they play at a higher level and that is how you find out about their ceiling. Our kids won't have that opportunity within their own age group now and that is a blow. So this relegation really is bad news, and its also not a very good look for the Academy in general.

Will Jaidi get the sack for this?

It's a weird level of football , during our Europa league run we had most of the u23s playing with the 1st team squad and u18s were playing the u23 games. We've also had injured players put into u23 games to gain fitness.

Hopefully we'll still be allowed to compete in the checkatrade trophy.

Didn't we win the league in Cortese`s final season?

Bet he looks at us now and thinks :mcinnes:

**** off. Just **** off.

Anyway we won the Premier League cup which is not the league but a cup. Gallagher scored the winner against Blackburn when we were down to 10 men but you knew all that and was just being a massive **** as normal.

Les Reeds toy has lost its wheels it seems. With all these things it is the quality of the material you put in to get a quality one at the end.I assume our scouts are not quite as good as they used to be

More to do with our coaches than scouts perhaps. Hunter has been struggling for a couple of years and Fleming has never been good enough. The Academy coaching at the top end needs a restructure.
