Too fat to adopt

Fair enough - far better that a child ends up in care than in a loving family.

It might seem fashionably over-reactive of the Council, but I go along with this thinking. It's bad enough getting older and getting overweight as one slows down, and I'd should know, I'm nearly 14 stone and I should be 13 stone. But being young and overweight is a massive strain on the body. And being obese is like sitting on a time-bomb. If the couple want to adopt a child badly enough, the man will slim down to a weight, and not put it back on. It will be healthier for him, and will be a good example to the child, who they would have no problems in adopting. I notice the partner isn't the sveltest of individuals either.

Don't beat around the bush, she's also a 'salad dodger' :p

I understand what you're saying StL and I usually agree with you. I just wonder a bit where we draw the line.

Will the next thing be an IQ test for potential adopters?

There are plenty of 'natural' parents who are overweight but who successfully raise 'normal' weight children.

Agreed, I'd tend to be more worried about the dog than the fella's weight, even then though, should someone having a pit bull type dog prevent them being a parent? I'm not sure on the legalities of these type of dogs so it's hard to formulate an opinion.

Yes there should be. In fact it shouldn't just be for adopters but for anyone that wants a child. There are too many stupid people that have children. They are unable to bring those kids up properly and do more damage than good.

Are you saying that the only jobs fat people with low IQs are fit for are the dross?

Bigot.

You KNOW I'm not saying that. You know me better than that :)

I probably didn't express myself very well. I was responding to Hatch's response to my sarcastic proposal that parents had to have a (presumably) high IQ.

This would, quite possibly (depending on your views on the nature / nurture debate), lead to their children being intelligent too and, therefore, not willing and available to do jobs that people with low IQs have historically and conventionally done before.

OK?

Remember her..?

Wow..! Did anyone notice she lost 10 pounds..? I didn't know that. Well, we know it wasn't for long.

She got even heavier too. After a quick search, this is the most recent video I've found:

Anybody notice the parent in all this..? I mean, how thick [excuse the pun] do you have to be not to notice that your kid is suffering..? Surely people don't need to be taught to know when something like this is wrong. Anyway, seems that state services did the right thing here. Of course, this is extreme. But how many years will go by before it isn't..?

Hopefully the girl will keep the weight off. Perhaps her Mum should follow her example.
