OldNick Posted 19 June, 2017 Share Posted 19 June, 2017 He absolutely isn't. Maybe he could tell us how we keep hold of Wanyama and Clyne especially, when they are in the last year of their contracts and have made it clear that they are not going to sign a new one. It seems he is not criticising Everton for not getting Barkley to sign a new contract. Same really for Pelle. Morgan and Mane threw strops. Lallana had his head up someones harris. Funny he doesn't mention Lovren. But anyway Sour, if Samuels isn't going to, can you tell us all how we are supposed to keep the likes of Wanyama and Clyne here? I really would be interested to know anyone's thoughts on this. And let's face it. Samuels is a bitter little man. Just because our ex chairman took him to the cleaners, he holds a rather childish grudge. No but their fans are not whining because they didnt seem any goals forgetting gettig to the cup final and what that brought to the season. We dont need a top manager we need a miracle worker as scoring goals with Long Jrod and our midfield is nye impossible I was told last night that apparently we created more chances than any other team last season, well it oculdnt be due to negative football
Bad Wolf Posted 19 June, 2017 Share Posted 19 June, 2017 We may be getting Palace's second choice... Southampton and Crystal Palace are close to appointing new managers - with Mauricio Pellegrino and Frank de Boer on both clubs' final shortlists. Sky Sports News HQ understands that Palace's search may be the more advanced, with Pellegrino and De Boer the hot favourites to replace Sam Allardyce at Selhurst Park. Pellegrino has caught the eye of clubs across Europe after he led Alaves to a ninth-place finish in La Liga and an appearance in the Copa del Rey final. Or they might be getting our second choice. I don't think we'll appoint someone before the weekend. I reckon it'll be not this Thursday, the Thursday after.

I reckon it would be De Boer to Palace and Pellegrino to us. De Boer would have Palace well organized with decent football played. We would go for Pellegrino as the club wants fancy football. Or can we expect a surprise? Thinking back to when we had Pochetinno, the players were always laughing and really seemed to enjoy the training. I can't remember seeing a similar video last season. Players just didn't seem happy under Puel (although I rate him as a coach, think he definitely knows his stuff).
Micky Posted 19 June, 2017 Share Posted 19 June, 2017 Like it ended in tears for Zidane at Madrid, winning the champ league! A manager has to start somewhere, I would take a risk with Viera. Won everything in the game, instant respect of players, big name and will help us attract players. Who cares if in two years he goes to Arsenal, it would have meant he had done a good job for us. So has Giggs, but I wouldn't go near him with a barge-pole.

Our formation of 4 2 3 30yards was one of the reasons being ignored. Why is everyone ignoring the fact that Puel was asked to stay but change this tactic but refused ? Thats nothing to do with fans wanting him out just his stubborn refusal to change - just like his substitutions at home. Get out of here, he's a non-starter for sure. Far too many rumours, if I tell you that Bielsa failed to turn up to start work at Lille this morning, does that make him a candidate for the Saints job? Of course it doesn't. Edited 19 June, 2017 by Window Cleaner

The basic training staff can handle the hour or so's efforts for this morning anyway. Plus his Mum died last week I think.
SKD Posted 19 June, 2017 Share Posted 19 June, 2017 If you had asked me this time last week if I'd like Vieira as our new manager I would have laughed in your face, however the more I read about him, the more I'm actually starting to think we should take the gamble and go for it. That said, I honestly cannot say I've seen much MLS football (I have a contact who is currently working out in NYC, so I may drop him a line and get his thoughts), so my judgement is purely based on what I've read. He knows the league He's a big name and will get respect from the players almost instantly Seems to play pretty exciting football Even with his limited experience, he's managed some of the worlds best players (Lampard, Pirlo and Villa) He will have a good network (in France and in England) He seems like a decent bloke who will bring that 'family feel' we had under Poch. I believe the players would love him, as they did Poch. Experience of youth development It would be a gamble, a big one at that, but every coach has to start somewhere (Pep at Barca, Poch at Espanyol and Zidane at Real were all appointed with little to no management experience and look how they've done). FWIW, I do not believe that we weren't in for Tuchel.

I think Clasie scored a goal and was dropped the next game but perhaps he wasnt playing to the way he was supposed to. Tadic may have been but the amount of chances he spurned was ridiculous. The fact is Puel was left with the poorest line up front, it was like letting Mr Bean loose in a brothel Why change his principles? What about the inability to score - just maybe by changing the formation to have 2 strikers was worth a shot? Jayrod scored 1 and made one at Boro yet dropped - worth a shot alongside Gabi? Nope lets stick rigid and replace like for like....Come on Clasie had a great game at WBA was then dropped for 4 games not 1 minute he scored FFS more than Davis JWP and Tadic were managing! You may not have been in the stadium for the last 5 games but I was and it was apparent the players didn't get it either and the fans rightly had enough of the weird selections and subs. Sims was deemed as the saviour one game yet hardly gets a kick the next, Austin not brought on in last 15 mins when needed a goal yet starts in place of Gabi next game. Away from home great but at home where you need to get most of your points he lost the plot....whether the new manager does any better who knows but the board has to back him better than they did Puel. Whether the new manager can get the best out of Jayrod/Long.....Koeman did for Long.

We'll all just shrug our shoulders and get on with it. Saints fans are no more difficult to satisfy than any other set of football fans. In fact, many of our fans have very low expectations, considering we get the 11th biggest gates in the Premier League. Avoiding relegation or even getting relegated and finishing in the top 8 of the Championship would satisfy them.

It's funny the ones who wanted to keep Puel, are now , in some cases, the ones creating a fuss whilst we look for a new manager. As usual they "assume" people's reactions to a new manager when we don't even know who it is! Trotting out the same tired arguments despite the fact, it was the club and Puel who decided his time was up..not some fans on an Internet forum! Absolutely agree. 8th was a good league position but a huge gap to 7th, and we were only 6 points off Dalek's baseline of 17th, so nothing to crow about at all. That and an unnerving inability to score goals and a lame exit from Europe.
