alpine_saint Posted 12 January, 2009 Posted 12 January, 2009 Was just about the best BBC sports commentator post-war. This mans warmth on Ski Sunday and in Winter Olympics coverage went a long way to me falling in love with winter sports and moving over here. I didnt realise he retired so long ago. RIP.

hamster Posted 12 January, 2009 Posted 12 January, 2009 He will always be the voice that made Superstars so great. Now I'm remembering John Conteh, Brian Jacks, Emlyn Hughes, Keegan and many more and wanting to see re-runs THAT bike crash. Gob bless ya David.

St Landrew Posted 12 January, 2009 Posted 12 January, 2009 Question Of Sport, SuperStars, Ski Sunday. I actually took up skiing for several years because of David Vine and Ski Sunday. Another stone in the old institution that shaped us has been removed. RIP.

This I agree with, Eurosport's winter sports coverage could learn from this man, sadly that is not possible now. RIP David.

Legod Third Coming Posted 12 January, 2009 Posted 12 January, 2009 The voice of snooker. Seem to have grown up with Viney's commentaries. Superstars, show jumping and ski Sunday in the days before SKY!!! God bless you David.
Saint Keith Posted 12 January, 2009 Posted 12 January, 2009 the word legend is over used. but is inadequate to decribe david vine rip
SaintSparky Posted 12 January, 2009 Posted 12 January, 2009 A man who has the very rare ability to be able to connect his audience with the sport or event he was covering, sadly missed. Rest in Peace David.
LVSaint Posted 14 January, 2009 Posted 14 January, 2009 Anyone remember when he walked off set swearing and in a tizzy when Danny Kelly kept making references to snooker players taking cocaine on an episode of Under the Moon?
