Lord Duckhunter Posted 18 March, 2017 Posted 18 March, 2017 John Lennon once said if they rename rock n roll they can call it Chuck Berry. One of the greats, that made rock music what we know and love. Simple lyrics that just worked and great riffs. A miserable tight sod, but man what a talent Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Hamilton Saint Posted 18 March, 2017 Posted 18 March, 2017 One of the great influential figures in the early development of "rock 'n' roll". Huge influence on The Beatles and The Rolling Stones. Man, he could be quite the jerk, though—watch the documentary film Hail! Hail Rock 'n' Roll, to get a sense of what I mean.
Lord Duckhunter Posted 18 March, 2017 Author Posted 18 March, 2017 Here's a clip from said documentary where he jams with Keith Richards and gives him "advice". Richards looks like he's going to chin him. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
spyinthesky Posted 19 March, 2017 Posted 19 March, 2017 I saw him years ago on stage at the Mayflower (then Gaumont) as support to the Moody Blues. He had a great stage presence
dronskisaint Posted 19 March, 2017 Posted 19 March, 2017 I was lucky enough to see him in Blackpool in the early seventies...was the only ticket I could get and well worth the 300 mile trek. He had the audience in the palm of his hand ...one of the best interactions I've ever seen from a performer and the songs were sublime. Feel privileged to have been alive in his era and more so to have seen him perform. His music, his legacy live on. Thanks Chuck Berry!
Ohio Saint Posted 19 March, 2017 Posted 19 March, 2017 (edited) I saw him in the early 70's playing with my ding a ling. I was later told it was actually my uncle Ron, and not the real Chuck berry at all...... Uncle Ron was great, he'd even dress as Santa and sit me on his knee. However, I do thank Chuck for Roll over Beethoven. Edited 19 March, 2017 by Ohio Saint
bpsaint Posted 19 March, 2017 Posted 19 March, 2017 One of the most influential artists of all time, helped shape Rock n Roll as we know it. He'd be nowhere though if his cousin hadn't heard Marty McFly playing at the enchantment under the sea dance and given him a phone call!
Lord Duckhunter Posted 19 March, 2017 Author Posted 19 March, 2017 Unfortunately all the greats are nearing the end of the road. The Killer will prob be next. My old mum will be gutted when he goes . Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
ecuk268 Posted 20 March, 2017 Posted 20 March, 2017 Surprised he made it to 90. Certainly led a colourful life with his various brushes with the law. My brother was at the Gaumont where he was supposed to be a support act but really stole the show.
