BotleySaint Posted 11 February, 2017 Posted 11 February, 2017 I wish we had Paddy "try his best" Long up front. Long has never been prolific. But as a supporting striker I think he'd play well with Gabbiadini.
Manuel Posted 11 February, 2017 Posted 11 February, 2017 Tadic / Gabbiadini partnership looking very tricky.
Wes Tender Posted 11 February, 2017 Posted 11 February, 2017 So far so good. Gabbiadini excellent and Tadic providing some good intelligent service.
bazza Posted 11 February, 2017 Posted 11 February, 2017 He looks good doesn't he!? Nice to go in at half time feeling positive for a change.
5string Posted 11 February, 2017 Posted 11 February, 2017 Quiz question: Who was our last hat-trick scorer? Could Gabba get one today? [i like 'Gabba' - it's hard, gritty and... er... Australian! Haha)
The Flying Finn Posted 11 February, 2017 Posted 11 February, 2017 Barry and Tadic look like they've played together for ages. Excellent goal.
skintsaint Posted 11 February, 2017 Posted 11 February, 2017 Lets keep it going 2nd half and not give them a cheap/quick 2nd half goal...
Saints foreva Posted 11 February, 2017 Posted 11 February, 2017 First goal shouldn't have counted but that second goal was sublime. What a fantastic turn. Played well after a slow 20 or so minutes to begin with.
Pamplemousse Posted 11 February, 2017 Posted 11 February, 2017 How long before someone says it's 'papering over the cracks' ? For the first few minutes, we were woeful. Then we got on the ball a bit more, got the goal and have looked comfortable ever since. Clean sheet is vital now. At least that second goal takes a bit of the pressure off the defence, but hopefully we push for a third and kill this game off.
Saint Albert Posted 11 February, 2017 Posted 11 February, 2017 Sunderland started off well, and Saints looked overrun in midfield and tentative in defence (particularly Bertrand, surprisingly) Credit to Saints for playing themselves into the game, gaining control of midfield and taking the wind out of Sunderland's sails with two goals by a player who looks like a fantastic addition to the first team.
ohgulydoprado Posted 11 February, 2017 Posted 11 February, 2017 Absolute class! A strikers finish, and then a strikers finish...
badgerx16 Posted 11 February, 2017 Posted 11 February, 2017 Quiz question: Who was our last hat-trick scorer? Mane in 5 minutes versus Villa ?
Saints foreva Posted 11 February, 2017 Posted 11 February, 2017 Quiz question: Who was our last hat-trick scorer? Could Gabba get one today? [i like 'Gabba' - it's hard, gritty and... er... Australian! Haha) Mane vs Man City I think?
simo Posted 11 February, 2017 Posted 11 February, 2017 Another goal each from us and Sunderland before the end will get me a nice little drink from my bet !
kjurwi Posted 11 February, 2017 Posted 11 February, 2017 This first half is just papering over the cracks. Everything is......Always...... 0-2 at halftime away. Not to bad is it.
austsaint Posted 11 February, 2017 Posted 11 February, 2017 Well done Gabby - first one might have been dodgy, but the second a moment of class - great assist from Tadic who looks so much better today. Turgid sort of game but the H/T score is all that matters. Bertrand, Yoshida and Cedric looking good. What a relieving win this would be.
Saint Albert Posted 11 February, 2017 Posted 11 February, 2017 Quiz question: Who was our last hat-trick scorer? Could Gabba get one today? [i like 'Gabba' - it's hard, gritty and... er... Australian! Haha) I'm thinking it was Mane's record setting hat trick.
verlaine1979 Posted 11 February, 2017 Posted 11 February, 2017 First half an hour was abject, and neither Davis nor JWP offered anything much first half. Romeu great as usual, especially the nicked ball out to Bertrand before the first goal. Gabbiadini just looks absolute class - movement, technique & confident finishing.
shurlock Posted 11 February, 2017 Posted 11 February, 2017 Very instinctive finish. Don't think Austin would have scored that.

Badger Posted 11 February, 2017 Posted 11 February, 2017 It seems we may have ourselves a proper striker. Better bring him off at half time then before he gets injured.
austsaint Posted 11 February, 2017 Posted 11 February, 2017 First half an hour was abject, and neither Davis nor JWP offered anything much first half. Romeu great as usual, especially the nicked ball out to Bertrand before the first goal. Gabbiadini just looks absolute class - movement, technique & confident finishing. He really does look like a top level striker.
Pamplemousse Posted 11 February, 2017 Posted 11 February, 2017 This is Tadic's best game for a while. He's played himself into the cup final. Would like Redmond to do a bit more, although we've largely been attacking down the left hand side.
Pass the Dutchie Posted 11 February, 2017 Posted 11 February, 2017 Hopefully having someone scoring goals will give the rest of the team the confidence. We're a good team but just not showing it often enough.
tobes8 Posted 11 February, 2017 Posted 11 February, 2017 Good first half display. Well worked goals but now need to be prepared as Sunderland will push forward but will leave space in behind. Let's just Hope puel doesn't go all defensive. Gabiadini looks quality, just a shame he didn't arrive at the start of January
Unbelievable Jeff Posted 11 February, 2017 Posted 11 February, 2017 Very instinctive finish. Don't think Austin would have scored that. Glad we didn't trust your Italian mates opinion of him, eh?
stknowle Posted 11 February, 2017 Posted 11 February, 2017 Great goal. Need to see this home. Stephens looking very composed at the back as well.
doddisalegend Posted 11 February, 2017 Posted 11 February, 2017 Well done Gabby - first one might have been dodgy, but the second a moment of class - great assist from Tadic who looks so much better today. Turgid sort of game but the H/T score is all that matters. Bertrand, Yoshida and Cedric looking good. What a relieving win this would be. True but unlike most of our attackers this season he got into a dangerous position that helped him get the slice of luck.
FriendlySaint Posted 11 February, 2017 Posted 11 February, 2017 Very happy so far, I put Gabbiadini in my fantasy football team this morning.
shurlock Posted 11 February, 2017 Posted 11 February, 2017 (edited) Glad we didn't trust your Italian mates opinion of him, he? I didn't endorse those opinions Simon- as made abundantly clear at the time. Just relaying what I was told. Don't try so hard pal. Edited 11 February, 2017 by shurlock
ALWAYS_SFC Posted 11 February, 2017 Posted 11 February, 2017 How long before you start spewing your man love for Puel, oh wait.... Why is it wrong to support the manager?
Manuel Posted 11 February, 2017 Posted 11 February, 2017 Hopefully Gabba will get Tadic focussed again too, they seem to be playing well off each other and reading each other well.
Saint Fan CaM Posted 11 February, 2017 Posted 11 February, 2017 Class from Gabba - looks like he's got the striker instincts we've been missing. By the way, commentators and on here talking about the first coming off his arm, but nothing about the defenders arms all over him which should have been a pen.
5string Posted 11 February, 2017 Posted 11 February, 2017 Would be fitting for Mani to take Mane's 'most recent hat-trick for us' record, then! Overall, first 20 we looked like our bad old (recent?) selves. But then Tadic & Gabbiadini stepped up and clicked. Looking good now. How's Merson's ticker?
FriendlySaint Posted 11 February, 2017 Posted 11 February, 2017 The local paper in the Sunderland area thought that Sunderland would win today. Read it this morning. It said we were in dreadful form, injuries and one eye on the final. And they were expecting Sunderland to turn us over. Wrong.
Leo_ARG Posted 11 February, 2017 Posted 11 February, 2017 Tadic likes playing with a striker who tries to beat the defensive line, looking for space behind the backline. That's why he plays much better with Long than Rodriguez. And Gabba being more of a complete player than Long you can see why they are having good chemistry. Gabba calls for passes with good diagonal movement and Tadic loves to pass it into space. Perfect match. Keep em coming.
tobes8 Posted 11 February, 2017 Posted 11 February, 2017 We're going down with Puel It's only halftime
Pamplemousse Posted 11 February, 2017 Posted 11 February, 2017 The local paper in the Sunderland area thought that Sunderland would win today. Read it this morning. It said we were in dreadful form, injuries and one eye on the final. And they were expecting Sunderland to turn us over. Wrong. Sunderland forum was very confident as well. Reminds me of the fake hope we had in our relegation era.
Toadhall Saint Posted 11 February, 2017 Posted 11 February, 2017 Hopefully having someone scoring goals will give the rest of the team the confidence. We're a good team but just not showing it often enough. This
suewhistle Posted 11 February, 2017 Posted 11 February, 2017 If you're at Sunderland start a chant: tripletta - Italian for hat-trick. TRI-PLE-TTA, to make MG feel at home, and with any luck... (PLE as in meh)
