Quiz question: Who was our last hat-trick scorer?

Could Gabba get one today?

[i like 'Gabba' - it's hard, gritty and... er... Australian! Haha)

How long before someone says it's 'papering over the cracks' ?

For the first few minutes, we were woeful. Then we got on the ball a bit more, got the goal and have looked comfortable ever since.

Clean sheet is vital now. At least that second goal takes a bit of the pressure off the defence, but hopefully we push for a third and kill this game off.

Sunderland started off well, and Saints looked overrun in midfield and tentative in defence (particularly Bertrand, surprisingly) Credit to Saints for playing themselves into the game, gaining control of midfield and taking the wind out of Sunderland's sails with two goals by a player who looks like a fantastic addition to the first team.

Well done Gabby - first one might have been dodgy, but the second a moment of class - great assist from Tadic who looks so much better today. Turgid sort of game but the H/T score is all that matters. Bertrand, Yoshida and Cedric looking good. What a relieving win this would be.

I'm thinking it was Mane's record setting hat trick.

First half an hour was abject, and neither Davis nor JWP offered anything much first half. Romeu great as usual, especially the nicked ball out to Bertrand before the first goal. Gabbiadini just looks absolute class - movement, technique & confident finishing.

How long before you start spewing your man love for Puel, oh wait....

He really does look like a top level striker.

Good first half display. Well worked goals but now need to be prepared as Sunderland will push forward but will leave space in behind. Let's just Hope puel doesn't go all defensive. Gabiadini looks quality, just a shame he didn't arrive at the start of January

True but unlike most of our attackers this season he got into a dangerous position that helped him get the slice of luck.

Glad we didn't trust your Italian mates opinion of him, he?:lol::lol:

I didn't endorse those opinions Simon- as made abundantly clear at the time. Just relaying what I was told. Don't try so hard pal.

Class from Gabba - looks like he's got the striker instincts we've been missing. By the way, commentators and on here talking about the first coming off his arm, but nothing about the defenders arms all over him which should have been a pen.

Would be fitting for Mani to take Mane's 'most recent hat-trick for us' record, then!

Overall, first 20 we looked like our bad old (recent?) selves. But then Tadic & Gabbiadini stepped up and clicked.

Looking good now.

How's Merson's ticker? :D

The local paper in the Sunderland area thought that Sunderland would win today. Read it this morning. It said we were in dreadful form, injuries and one eye on the final. And they were expecting Sunderland to turn us over. Wrong.

Tadic likes playing with a striker who tries to beat the defensive line, looking for space behind the backline. That's why he plays much better with Long than Rodriguez. And Gabba being more of a complete player than Long you can see why they are having good chemistry. Gabba calls for passes with good diagonal movement and Tadic loves to pass it into space. Perfect match.

Keep em coming.

Sunderland forum was very confident as well.

Reminds me of the fake hope we had in our relegation era.
