Heisenberg Posted 2 February, 2017 Posted 2 February, 2017 Hope Betrand looks half decent at CB, that way we wont need any new CBs this summer 2017/18 season - CBs: Bertrand, Yoshida, Stephens, Gardos, Jones LBs: McQueen and Targett
Sour Mash Posted 2 February, 2017 Posted 2 February, 2017 Gutted for him - vardy is a slimey **** Good reminder, hope our fans don't let Vardy forget this in future games.
Batman Posted 2 February, 2017 Posted 2 February, 2017 Transfer window has just shut and NOW we only find out that VvD is out for months spooky
Pamplemousse Posted 2 February, 2017 Posted 2 February, 2017 We won at Liverpool without VVD, we can win at Wembley without him too. Obviously it'll be a tough ask but it is not a write off. I'd say our defence is still better than Hull's, for example, and they kept them out last night...
DT Posted 2 February, 2017 Posted 2 February, 2017 Yes. Imagine! Who knew? Answer: all of us Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Toadhall Saint Posted 2 February, 2017 Posted 2 February, 2017 Good reminder, hope our fans don't let Vardy forget this in future games. I certainly won't - what he did was deliberate imho

Sidney Fudpucker the 3rd Posted 2 February, 2017 Posted 2 February, 2017 If Romeu gets injured I'd say there's a good chance we'll be in a relegation scrap by March. I'll bet you a cheese sandwich that we're in one with or without Romeu. Just look at our recent form, and most of that was with VVD playing. The problem is with the manager and the way he insists on playing.
Pamplemousse Posted 2 February, 2017 Posted 2 February, 2017 I certainly won't - what he did was deliberate imho With any luck, he'll be playing in the Championship next season
verlaine1979 Posted 2 February, 2017 Posted 2 February, 2017 Just can't see all this relegation hysteria. We need about a further 10 points from 15 games. The latter end of our season may not be glorious but it won't end in relegation. Interestingly, if our form over the last 6 league games continues, we can look forward to around 7 or 8 points from the next 15 games.
Lord Duckhunter Posted 2 February, 2017 Posted 2 February, 2017 If Puel gets us mid table with these defensive options will people finally accept he's a decent manager?
Dark Munster Posted 2 February, 2017 Posted 2 February, 2017 Can see it now - Stephens and Gardos against Zlatan at Wembley.
Batman Posted 2 February, 2017 Posted 2 February, 2017 If Puel gets us mid table with these defensive options will people finally accept he's a decent manager? What of he doesn't?

aintforever Posted 2 February, 2017 Posted 2 February, 2017 **** me what a mess. It wouldn't be such an issue if we had goals in the side but our team this year has all been about the defence. It would be criminal if we get sucked into a relegation fight, we had half a season to find a replacement for Fonte. We are one game away from our first major trophy in a generation and Reed might have ****ed it all up.
Heisenberg Posted 2 February, 2017 Posted 2 February, 2017 Don't forget the ace up our sleeve, Cuco. 5'8 Jeremy Pied too
LeBizzier69 Posted 2 February, 2017 Posted 2 February, 2017 Worst of all, bang goes my VVD anytime scorer bet...bought me drinks at crucial times.
leeham_69 Posted 2 February, 2017 Posted 2 February, 2017 I have wondered for a while if the club's longer term plan was to shift Bertrand to CB as he got older and slower because he is good defensively and positionally. I guess we'll find out sooner rather than later - obviously we lose an attacking threat from full-back if they do move him, but a good full back seems easier to find than a good CB. Part of me reckons it would be harsh to drop Stephens after the win against Liverpool - maybe Bertrand in for West Ham to see how he looks? Or would Stephens be better for a longer run? Such exciting (panic stricken) times!
suewhistle Posted 2 February, 2017 Posted 2 February, 2017 Ch**t, what's the male equivalent of pmt, I swear some of you suffer from something similar. We need a new CB. certainly, and I suspect we had that now injured player lined up. But getting such a better player than we have in the January window is not a simple browse and buy activity. I'm sure we could get someone, but I'm not sure i could put up with the whines here when they didn't meet with your approval.
Heisenberg Posted 2 February, 2017 Posted 2 February, 2017 Isnt Bertrand only 5 feet 9? Quite short for a CB?

I'm sorry but this is crap, we have a CUP FINAL and sold a first choice cb.
Winnersaint Posted 2 February, 2017 Posted 2 February, 2017 Les will just bang on about getting to the EFL cup final at the end of the season as a sign of progress to paper over the cracks. We have a choice over whether we want to truly try and progress with the club. The foundations and funds are there. Les is more interested in running it as a sustainable business. I hear people say it's risky to throw a load of money at signings to try and buy success. You know what's also a risk Les? making a massive **** up with the recruitment of defenders. We are in a relegation scrap now, make no mistake Sent from my SM-G920F using Tapatalk Big girl's blouse. It's sport, get over yourself.
Kingsland Codger Posted 2 February, 2017 Posted 2 February, 2017 Yep - I think this is our only option. Which leaves us with no danger from left full back as McQueen doesn't ever get past the full back like Bertrand does. Very frustrating times. Remind me ... who put in the cross from the bye line for Long to score in the replay against Norwich?
Kingsland Codger Posted 2 February, 2017 Posted 2 February, 2017 love that your worried about wembley... we're heading for a relegation scrap unless we start averaging 3 goals a game... let that sink in for a bit! Alternatively, all we need are four 1-0 wins.
the saint in winchester Posted 2 February, 2017 Posted 2 February, 2017 Good reminder, hope our fans don't let Vardy forget this in future games. I'm really not one for vitriol or retribution ... but in this case, I really hope Vardy gets a taste of his own medicine. Virulent germ. Gone right off him.
Lighthouse Posted 3 February, 2017 Posted 3 February, 2017 40 points starting to look like Everest. 35 will almost certainly be enough this season. Even if it isn't, 40 points is 3 wins, 4 draws and 8 defeats. To put that in context, this coming weekend in 04/05 we were drawing 2-2 with Everton after that injury time Bent goal. We then got another 14 points in the remainder of the season playing Bernard, Davenport, Jackobsson, Delap and an aging Claus in defence. I'd take our current options over that lot.
CB Fry Posted 3 February, 2017 Posted 3 February, 2017 We won't go down Correct. As in the post above, we need three wins for the rest of the season, and we have not even kicked a ball in February yet.
Saint Albert Posted 3 February, 2017 Posted 3 February, 2017 For the catastrophists out there, can you see us doing 6 points worse than Boro, Hull and Sunderland over the remainder of the season? I can't.
HKsaint Posted 3 February, 2017 Posted 3 February, 2017 Because of the injury, we can keep VVD in this transfer window and possibly in this summer.

BARCELONASAINT Posted 3 February, 2017 Posted 3 February, 2017 I always try to remain optimistic but there is always one club that after Xmas suddenly falls down the table and gets sucked into the relegation scrap. No one will want to get injured before the Cup Final so I cant see us picking up wins in either of our next two games. West Ham are cloggers and Andy Carroll will have a field day. We are up against it without a shadow of doubt in my opinion. We are one injury away from utter disaster in our back four!

That gets mentioned every season and people were using same logic last season for us. More often it doesn't happen. I have seen pretty much every ball kicked by Saints this season (apart from Norwich away) and at no time have we looked a relegation team albeit have been sh1t at times
whelk Posted 3 February, 2017 Posted 3 February, 2017 And if thinking of team slipping into it I'd bet on it being Bournemouth
Wiggles31 Posted 3 February, 2017 Posted 3 February, 2017 We won't go down This. Whilst we have made a monumentous f*ck up with signing a CB we have enough in the side to get 12 points from 15 games. There are 5 teams between us and the bottom 3 who are very poor sides. I'm more disappointed in the clear lack of ambition by Reed and co. Actually feel sorry for a Puel. Like others have suggested I would try Bertrand at CB as Stephens does not convince me at this level.
angelman Posted 3 February, 2017 Posted 3 February, 2017 Will 35 be enough? Hull have turned a corner. Swansea have Sunderland are ad good as down. Palace have strengthened a fair bit as have West ham No Batman, we're doomed so why not just carry on being a wet blanket?
Whitey Grandad Posted 3 February, 2017 Posted 3 February, 2017 And if thinking of team slipping into it I'd bet on it being Bournemouth Callum Wilson is out for the rest of the season with damaged knee ligaments.

Let's hope that this season, that club is Leicester as they continue to slide down the table. That would be especially sweet given Vardy's role in this whole mess

We are up against it without a shadow of doubt in my opinion. We are one injury away from utter disaster in our back four! You're right, luckily for us that team is Premier League champions Leicester City I don't think we'll go down, but we are of course at risk of being dragged into it. Who knows, we might turn it round and many of our concerns will prove unfounded, but there at least looks a decent chance of our season getting worse, not better (except from the final obviously), and when the 'best of the rest' is probably Everton, who aren't even very good, that's both sickening (because it's Everton) and frustrating (because we could easily be in that spot with a bit more assertiveness).

Causer Posted 3 February, 2017 Posted 3 February, 2017 I wouldn't.... Cedric > Meyler Stephens Yoshida Bertrand > Robertson Would argue not a lot between Bertrand and Robertson..... Agreed with rest of that post but there is huge difference between Bertrand and Robertson. Robertson is much weaker with a tendency to dive in and give away penalties.
saintwbu Posted 3 February, 2017 Posted 3 February, 2017 Man United have recalled a young goalkeeper from his loan spell because of a "significant injury to a first team goalkeeper" - Interestibg if it's De Gea ahead of our cup final, but suspect it's Romero
ART Posted 3 February, 2017 Posted 3 February, 2017 When have we ever read about our seriously injured players being sent overseas to see specialists who work miracles in rapid recovery. Even in this we penny pince and won't pay out money to get our players back playing.

As an aside Jones looked like he pulled a hamstring, so will probably miss the cup final. Smalling is a decent replacement though sadly.
