Fonte on Talksport

JF has just done an "exclusive" interview with Jim White on Talksh*te. That didn't sound staged at all.

I like Fonte, I don't wish him any success at West Ham, but he did great for us. Despite him claiming how professional he's been to the end, I've heard pretty reliably that he's certainly not been captain material recently behind the scenes. There's 2 sides to every story but Jim White, who aint so keen on us these days since Cortese left (who used to lavish VIP trips with the club on the fella), just about put the right words into Fonte's mouth to make him sound whiter than white, I suspect West Ham are lavishing gifts on him these days.

3 sides to every story - Fontes, the clubs (Reeds) and the truth!

Whichever you want or choose to believe it’s done, he’s gone and we need to get behind our new CB that we will sign today.

No doubt the fans will, this was more about the bullsh*te that's just been broadcast on the radio.

Fonte wanted to join Man United and wasnt allowed and took umbrage the club wouldnt let him. They then offered him more money and another year without any strings and turned that down, solely out of spite because of the United refusal. West Ham is a good move for his family because his mrs comes from kent.

Well if that's the case, he should have re-signed for Palace.

Who on earth told you that fairy story? Or did you just make it up yourself?

When players are in their early 30s, like Lambert, Pelle and Fonte, we sell them, as it is the last chance to get a transfer fee for them. Simple as that. All of these so-called 'leaks' about 'Billy big ********' " Toys out of prams', 'refusing to train', ' being unpopular with the other players' etc are just bullsh!t, which some of our more gullible fans seem to lap up. Speak to any of our players and you'll find that Fonte was popular with them right to the end and they were sad to see him sold. Yes, his agent wanted a contract extension and a a final pay increase as Fonte was by no means our highest paid player and he knew that this would be his last ever contract. He wasn't offered that.

I'm glad to hear that we are not like other clubs. Players throwing hissy fits only happens at other clubs like WHU and Leicester thank goodness.

Why not have a listen and make up your own minds, but really it's done and dusted so why we have to go over and over it is beyond me. Jose was a top player for us, somewhere along the line things didn't work out and he decided to move on - that's his prerogative - I really don't see the big deal.

I don't know if anyone else can find something but I'm struggling to find an official announcement direct from Southampton Football Club that Fonte handed in a transfer request. Without an official confirmation then is the whole 'transfer request' situation just rumour ?

I'm pretty sure that Les confirmed it in an interview.

Got it now, a Les Reed quote to BBC Radio Solent that 'He's formally asked for a transfer'...

http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/38523114

... and I know it's now history, I should probably leave it, but Fonte in his TalkSport interview this morning has indirectly stated that Les Reed has lied (I can handle deception and bending the truth but not outright lying, from either party).

Generally in these sort of spats both sides convince themselves they are in the right haven't, done anything wrong and the other side is to blame for everything the truth is probably somewhere in the middle.

Regarding the transfer request though it's black and white, he either did or he didn't, there is no grey.

He was a brilliant player for us and this transfer request lie, from either him or the club, has left a very bitter taste in my mouth (can you tell ?).

I'm sorry, but Fonte has been in this country for plenty long enough and speaks the language plenty well enough to understand the question about the transfer request. To ask a question to clarify what was meant in the manner that he did was overly evasive (and if supposition was the order of the day, was playing semantics).

Spot on, although you've also missed the bit where he acted a d*ck round the club to force a move so he wouldn't have to forgo his loyalty "bonus" and when that didn't work and he realised he was being held to his contract he had to hand in his transfer notice to leave.

Though at that point he still believed he was moving to Everton due to certain promises (hence his cryptic message to Lovern on instagram) that obviously didn't happen and he was left with a much smaller choice of options.

Pony

There was a play on words by Fonte & White. Instead of just asking " did you ask to leave" White teed him up by saying " did you hand in transfer request". Fonte then asked " what is that ", before the slam dunk answer " when you write to the club" . So he could have officially asked to leave, his agent could have asked in his behalf , he could have sent email ( as Matt claimed ) , is sending email strictly writing to the club??? Of course there's no written request , there never is.

The whole thing was a set up, that's clear to anyone with half a brain. If it wasn't the first question would be " did you ask to leave"

Reed never said he'd submitted a written transfer request, just that he'd officially asked to leave. Fonte tried to make les out to be a liar by answering a different question

What annoys me most about this is he was a perfectly good player for us over a number of years, he just had to get his head down, work hard, and he would still be here now leading the side as captain out at Wembley with the chance to get his hands on some more silverware. He's a plonker for the way he has acted around the club in the last 6 months and certainly won't be getting a cheer from me on Saturday, but it is a shame that his behaviour will have a negative impact on the club and with VVD out it is an awfully big challenge to get a win against Man Utd at Wembley.

Not doubting any of this is true as have heard very similar about him acting like a tw*t and falling out with a number of first team players, the way it was described to me was 'he's lost the dressing room', however is this a 'itk snippet' as very interesting RE Everton.

Heard they were interested along with United, Palace and West Ham, but didn't know promises had been made.

In all honesty, from what I've been told the blokes an idiot (or at least has been this season) and it's a good job we've got rid tbh.

Nope, they definitely said "it was all cleared up" now that Jose Fonte has been (gently coaxed, ahem) totally upfront that he never put in a "written" transfer request so the club must have pushed him out the door. For one reason or another.

West Ham fans are happy, they just got themselves a great signing (not anyone remotely like Payet who played up to get out of his contract), Saints fans are happy and he'll get a warm welcome back (he should anyway but no hero worshipping) on Saturday.

No agendas at Talksh*te, no sir, never.

The attitude of White and Gray afterwards convinced me it was a set up. I had to turn off such was Whites level of arse kissing. Listening to him West Ham have signed the games greatest ever gentleman, such an honest wonderful guy .

The ugly inside have been talking about the 'fonte email' for a couple of weeks now and its content is more or less what reed said, Fonte wanted to exlpore oppurtunites to leave. Its all down to interpretation and both can be right on that to be honest.

The bottom line is that he wanted to leave and was stopped last August and now hes just trying to muddy the situation to not lose some face and get booed etc

Out of interest, did they go into detail of what he was doing to act like a tw*t?

Yup, a fair bit to be honest some of which i've mentioned on here in the past some of which i'm not going to go into in detail here because it'll give them away.

That's fair enough.

The snippets I've received have in the main came from a someone very close to Fonte, so obviously have to take with a pinch of salt. When I was told he had lost the dressing room I drew my own conclusions however.
