Saints Reserves v Arsenal Reserves - FA Cup Match Thread

some of you really make me laugh.....I had no doubts that virtually the whole first team would be rested after Wednesdays brilliant result and effort by the players. We do not have the squad depth and hopefully in the next 72 hours we will see some incomings.

We were always going to lose today after Wednesday night and i personally dont want to risk anymore first teamers being injured when we are already going to Wembley

Well why don't we have the squad depth?! Supposed to be Europe ready but we can't play on Wednesday and Saturday? And we need to change 10 players?! If the club are going to do this, how about we charge a quid? FA cup has become a joke. Sad. We're not the only ones at it but it it's a bit of **** take to be honest.

I think it's more to do with the amount of foreign managers who just don't understand the meaning of the FA Cup

Well it does seem we have this same conservation every season since Nigel left. I seem to remember us putting out pretty strong sides in the cups when we were in the lower leagues no resting everyone and putting out the kids.

Its amazing how lower league players cope considering how many games they play. I have no problem with rotation but I refuse to believe none of our senior players could manage a second game today.

I'm not saying they couldn't have, i'm saying the idea that you can say 'I won't rest them today i'll rest them for the next game' has the same results is just stupid

I think changes were necessary, but maybe we should have started with some of those on the bench (Yoshi, Tadic & Redmond instead of Stephens, Isgrove & Hojbjerg, for example?), then later in the game brought on some of today's starters.

Bit of experience at the start of the game can work wonders for influencing youngsters & showing them the ropes.

Agreed, think that one experienced head in this team would have made a world of difference, problem is that we don't have many that aren't injured. Romeu, Davis or Yoshida probably the only real options (I'm ignoring Tadic as he wouldn't have brought what was needed), situation made worse by letting Fonte leave early in the window. Problem is that this could seriously damage the confidence of players like Stephens and McQueen.

Sims looks like the only player to come out of this with reputation enhanced.

Correct. Very depressing to watch. And how Clasie was so revered in Holland is beyond me. Very poor. Tadic and Redmond coming on. The cavalry....

I tought we were playing tomorrow. Just seen the score.

Looking at the line-up, two thoughts come to mind :

1. Having reached one cup final, the club dont give a shiny one about the burden of trying to reach another

2. If we have so many injuries, and are so unwilling to cough up for transfers that this is the type of lineup we will have in the league, we are far from safe from relegation

Nothing, but the claim was that players who played on Wednesday needed a rest. Resting Forster epitomises resting a player for the sake of it.

Given our lack of options in this position, I think leaving Forster out is the right decision. If he got injured in this match we'd be buggered.

Am I the only person who has been getting really, really ****ed off with the positioning of referee's lately? They seem to always be in the way, often even cutting off avenue's or being right on the first touch of a player.

They're in a no-win situation. Too close, get in the way. Too far, can't make a reliable decision. But, yeah, ref-in-the-way seems to be worse this season.

The problem is not having a senior defender in the team. However, with the injury situation, you can't blame Puel for not wanting to risk Yoshida.

True. Reed needs to get off his ass and sign a centre back because if Yoshida picks up a knock we will end up with these two against Utd at Wembley.

He could get injured in any game at any time. If we are genuinely resting him to prevent an injury (and realistically any keeper injury will be a freak) then we need better depth.

Totally agree. We are leaving it very late - surely we will get someone in?

Assume this game is punishment for the fans who only bought tickets to get to Wembley...

I went to the Norwich replay, but not this as was supposed to be at a memorial service today. But as the NCFC games was soooooo bad, I presumed today would be the same....and it is.

With the greatest of respect, this rationale makes precisely zero sense to moi. What if he gets injured on Tuesday? Or next Saturday? Should we bench the entire team until the final? :S I'm not even bothered that Forster isn't playing, but it does highlight Puel's occasional knack for over-indulging his rotation policy.

We are a class above those at the bottom, as Sunday proved. There is not a chance in hell that we will be involved in any sort of relegation battle.
