Hopefully Black has more than one trick up his sleeve? Many Italians are taught French & English at school so he may be OK. That first interview was maybe recorded in Italy with an Italian reporter, so he spoke his native language; the English questions may have been pasted on at the local edit suite.

May have missed this, but does anyone in the club speak Italian?

Even more reason to get Henry in as assistant (assuming he picked up some of the local tounge during his time at Juve...)

According to a reliable source his fee was:

Euros £17.5m (approx. £15m)

plus

Euros 200k after 10/30/40/50/75 appearances = Euro 1 mill

Euros 500k after 12/20/30/40 goals = Euro 2 mill

So at his current strike rate Les and Claude will be instructing teammates not to pass to him before the end of the season

However if Manolo is as prolific as we all would hope his transfer fee could end up at around £17.5m

http://www.espn.co.uk/football/southampton/story/3070809/manolo-gabbiadini-jose-mourinho-called-me-outstanding-in-efl-cup-final

Manolo Gabbiadini has said that Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho praised his two-goal display in the EFL Cup final.

Gabbiadini, 25, also had a goal wrongly disallowed for Southampton as they lost 3-2 to United at Wembley, but the Italy international was happy to receive the praise of Mourinho.

"When a personality like him comes up to you and says 'you were outstanding and scored two phenomenal goals,' then it makes you feel something special inside," Gabbiadini told La Gazzetta dello Sport.

"Mourinho is a special person and not just for the success he has had as a coach, but because he is charismatic."

Garth Crooks said in one of his team of the week columns that he reminded him of Inzaghi, and for once I think there's something in the comparison (aside from nationality and a slightly straggly appearance). At least for now Gabbiadini looks less prone to being caught offside, and probably a technically better finisher than Inzaghi, though most players would trade both of those to have Inzaghi's knack for sniffing out a goal.

Dont see the comparison myself (as pointed out on the other thread). Crooks is a moron, probably just parroting Neville.

On The Game , the podcast from the times Gab Marcotti said its was good old fashioned scouting from Southampton. Said we looked beyond the stats, looked at the reasons he wasn't getting much of a game and realised we could give him the platform he needed. Said he's talented but other wouldn't take a chance , because he's had a lull.

Like most people on this forum, most other forums and other social media platforms. It was rife with negativity about this signing. No one could look beyond the three goals this season stat. If people spent some time actually looking into him, they would have realised that he stood every chance of being successful. In starting so well, he has the fans onside for some considerable time now so hopefully any lull will not be met with the usual booing the likes of Redmond receives.

'Interestingly' this was reported as a done deal in the Brazillian media in the first week of December with a view to him joining when the window opened. Generally, why doesn't a deal like this move a player on straight away, rather than at the end of a window?

Would have thought the selling club would welcome getting him off the payroll and getting some funds flowing asap. Saints playing hard ball on the price? Or just not wanting to commit a month's wages when there was no pressing need for the player? (bar a 2 leg SF v Liverpool and being dragged to the outer fringes of a potential relegation situation).

Either way, all's good now!

Bellissimo!

https://southamptonfc.com/news/2017-03-10/manolo-gabbiadini-pfa-player-of-the-month-february-winner

Manolo Gabbiadini has been named as the Premier League’s PFA Fans’ Player of the Month for February.

Supporters overwhelmingly voted the striker as the winner of the award, following an incredible start to his time at Saints.

Gabbiadini netted three goals in his first two Premier League matches, while he also scored twice in the EFL Cup final, at Wembley, during February.

The forward had been up against a stellar list of names, with Tottenham’s Harry Kane, Everton’s Romelu Lukaku, Manchester City’s Gabriel Jesus, Manchester United’s Henrikh Mkhitaryan and West Brom’s Gareth McAuley all in contention.

Gabbiadini polled a hugely impressive 40 per cent of the vote and will be presented with his award in the coming weeks.

Good. reading a few bits on him seems like he was short of confidence at Napoli and has found some at saints which is doing him a world of good. A player of month award in his first month will only help I'm sure and we all know strikers thrive on confidence ?

Is this a new record? I can't remember any other players winning POTM in their first month. :adore:

Hazard got the actual POTM, this is the fan voted one

You suck so bad at this WUM stuff.

Eh? Just trying to be light-hearted in contributing to the forum mate. It's actually quite funny that I suggested him considering he's just gone to Arsenal for mega bucks!
