deadpanmatt Posted 12 January, 2009 Posted 12 January, 2009 Donny on Saturday represents a must win game for saints! I know every game is important but this match could make or break our season! if we win, one it will be 3 points closer to saftey, two, it will be back to back victories (can't remember the last time that happened) and third it may well prove to be the catalyst for an upturn in our fortunes that sees us survive, and i don't mean just in the championship!!! Lose, and I dread to think of the consequences!! I alluded to the spirit of southampton in another thread, and its fair to say there was a mixed response of opinion. For all the doubters who believe that it died with Lowe etc, I ask you to keep the faith. The spirit is something that each of us feel whenever we think about the team that is in our blood. It is the team that delights us, saddens us, angers us, excites us. It provides us with experiences that are forever etched into daily lives. To a man, we all talk to our friends, family and work colleages about the fortunes of our team and the rest of us saddos come on here to argue and have a laugh on a daily basis. What I mean to say is, that spirit and strength of belief isn't dictated by one man, in fact he is irrelevent. as someone said on the other thread, in 20 years he will be long forgotten, Southampton Football club won't be, even if we are playing under a different name. The spirit is alive in all of us, please don't forget it! Back to the thread, I think we should all join together to pray for a saints victory, we have never needed one more! get down to the ground if you can afford it and make some noise. Lets make it a cauldron of sound!!!! if you can't make it, listen to it on the radio, check in to this site or watch sky sports. Whatever it takes, if we all believe for 90 minutes, we can effect the resurgence of our proud football club. The southampton pheonix is ready to rise from the ashes!! This reminds me of the film Braveheart. You'll never take our freeedom!
West End Saint Posted 12 January, 2009 Posted 12 January, 2009 We have to win this 1 I have been saying for sometime that this month is mega important if we can can climb out of the bottom 3 we give ourselfs a chance of staying up a massive win against Barnsley so important with Forest winning and Norwich losing we must now beat Donny and get on a bit of a run I can see Forest and Derby pulling clear a win against Donny and a point at Norwich should see us out of the bottom 3 COME ON YOU SAINTS.
saintsfannick Posted 12 January, 2009 Posted 12 January, 2009 I shall be there at this game, hope we can create a big atmosphere for a very important game, these are the kind of games you look bak on at the end of the season and think we should of won that because we need to open up a gap between us and the two bottom teams so we dont get them involved in the relegation scrap where they might start winning games
DT Posted 12 January, 2009 Posted 12 January, 2009 Birmingham manager Alex McLeish has lined up a £1m bid for Doncaster defender Matthew Mills. (Daily Mirror) Get on with it, Alex. Could be a good destabilising factor for a certain somebody if he hasn't gone already (or not risked).
Donnylee Posted 12 January, 2009 Posted 12 January, 2009 Hello all, sorry to hijack your thread, I'm staying the weekend for the Donny game with the kids, could anyone recommend anything to do with them on sat night & sunday morning close to the town centre? Are there any kid friendly pubs in the town centre? Thanks in advance.

In terms of child-friendly pubs, you'd be looking perhaps at one of the JDWs - there is a new one in the Ocean Village that I haven't got to yet although it may depend on how young they are. I have to drive these days but the pub I use does real ale but is probably too small to be family-friendly. In terms of attractions, there is shopping at West Quay which is quite a large, modern centre. The City has an art gallery (at the Civic Centre), a Maritime Museum and Tudor House if you want something cultural and there are lots of parks and green spaces. The Hall of Aviation is not far from the ground but I've haven't been there for many years. The Spitfire was built in the city. There is a large multi-screen cinema at Leisureworld although the bars around it are a bit much at night. There is another smaller one at Ocean Village plus another really good independent one called Harbour Lights. On the city's outskirts, you have the New Forest and to the East the Hamble River is nice. Royal Victoria Country Park was the site of Europe's biggest military hospital which was demolished in the late 60s to leave a large waterside country park. Lovely museum and about 6 miles east of the city. Romsey is an attractive market town to the West and Winchester is to the North, set in the South Downs. Hope that helps and enjoy your stay.

Pitch invasion during the game to oust Rupert Lowe is more likely.

Should be Ok at 'Spoons, the kids are 9-13
saint1977 Posted 12 January, 2009 Posted 12 January, 2009 Should be Ok at 'Spoons, the kids are 9-13 You should be fine as our stadium has undersoil heating. There are 3 JDW's in the City Centre but the newest one is next to Ocean Village and is supposed to be not bad. Hope both our clubs stay up and we can drag Norwich and others in the mix. I think Forest will stay up but Charlton are probably 2 defeats away from being gone. Given they've only recently dropped out of the PL and will lose their parachute money in the summer, their board must be bricking it! Their plight could make Saints look pleasant. You've got a good chairman in Ryan and I was cheering you on V Leeds in May.
West End Saint Posted 12 January, 2009 Posted 12 January, 2009 Should be Ok at 'Spoons, the kids are 9-13 My Dad is from Donny and will have split loyalties on Saturday me and my family often go to Donny games went to the Johnson Trophy at Cardiff and went to Wembley to watch you beat dirty Leeds will always have a soft spot for you many a time as a kid went to watch you play opposit the Racecourse and we have been to the Keepmoat to watch you against Rotheram. However we must beat you Saturday if we are to stay up should be a good game you play decent passing football and so do we hope you enjoy your stay but go home with no points all the best. UP THE SAINTS
Legod Third Coming Posted 12 January, 2009 Posted 12 January, 2009 Should be Ok at 'Spoons, the kids are 9-13 Keep an eye on them, our Chairman will try to sign them. If they go missing at half time have a close look at our right back in the second half...

It's a rather up market part of town, but still has a rustic charm. There are several olde worlde taverns serving delicious home cooked fayre and for entertainment there are two casinos, upper end antiques shops and some interesting book shops. To the rear of St Marys street (facing the stadium) there is an tall block of luxury apartments with childrens play facilities and it's through these landscaped grounds you take a short cut to the stadium. Enjoy your day in Southampton - European city of culture 2009.
