londonsaint1604 Posted 12 January, 2009 Posted 12 January, 2009 Why is this sort of ridiculous knee-jerk response to one win more acceptable than the usual negative reaction on here to a sequence of defeats ? It seems like you actually prefer it when we lose.

Ponty Posted 12 January, 2009 Posted 12 January, 2009 For all of Alpine's faults (if you believe he has any), none of them are wishing failure on the team.

david in sweden Posted 12 January, 2009 Posted 12 January, 2009 guys u know we will b ok I'd go with that. Saints teams of all generations have been notoriously inconsistant - and not just when they were successful. Even looking back at the "potential" relegation situations in years past, we've always managed to turn it around in the second half (of the season) -even if it has run a bit close to the finish, occasionally. We have played some good football, (unfortunately seldom for more than 45 mins. at a time,) but put it all together, a few more shots ON target, a few less hitting the woodwork, and a fair deal on offsides and penalty shouts - I think we can do enough to move up the table soon, and certainly to survive.

Strange, I recall us being relegated in 2005......... I really worry about all this dangerous complaicency......

Yes, I recall 2005, but were we really that bad ...BEFORE the New Year ? Everything went downhill fast, especially after Pruttons 10 match suspension and we were really struggling at the end of the season, I don't think we were REALLY relegation-threatened up until then - were we ? It seemed like a season of two halves to me.

jjsaint Posted 12 January, 2009 Posted 12 January, 2009 Southampton, Norwich and Charlton have the worst form at the moment. This could easily be the bottom three (all big clubs!)
Mole Posted 12 January, 2009 Posted 12 January, 2009 So you're saying we were crap but still got the win? That's always a good sign. It's a good sign for a team like Man Utd who win on an offday, but for Saints it was just a fluke. I was there were you?
NickG Posted 12 January, 2009 Posted 12 January, 2009 Strange, I recall us being relegated in 2005......... I really worry about all this dangerous complaicency...... why? there is none coming from the club only fans (actually don't think there is just wee bit of enjoying a rare win) but what is the danger of the fans being complacent? more will attend, more support?

No. But the point is we won and that's all that counts, whether it was a fluke or not. We've had some bad luck this season and there have been games where we've played decent, pretty football but not got a result, so a 'flukey' 3 points is as good as any 3 points. It has probably been said already but everyone maons when we play well and don't get a result, now we've played badly and got a win and people are still moaning: make your f**king minds up ffs!

It seemed like a season of two halves to me. Answer: Yes. I was an ST that season and went to some of the away games. We couldn't score in a brothel under Wigley and anyone who went to Watford will never forget how awful we were. I don't like Harry at all but he was left with the tougher home games after our Stuart Gray clone of a Head Coach messed it up, with Sturrock's summer buys - V Damned, Yack-up-sson and Dennis Nilsson. Only Crouch was any good.

I want to win on Saturday and that's what counts. Doesn't matter if Donny hammer us for 89 minutes and Kelvin pulls off 20 great saves, if they score an own goal and we win 1-0 in our position I'd be blooming happy.

We did have a lot of injuries during his time as coach I remember one match where Best and Blackstock were the strikers
Saints67 Posted 13 January, 2009 Posted 13 January, 2009 We did have a lot of injuries during his time as coach I remember one match where Best and Blackstock were the strikers Everton away I think it was? I'm fairly sure it was on Sky too and finished 0-0. I can barely remember except I had the mother and father of all hangovers that day.
