Has signed a new three year deal and joined Dundee united on a season long loan - https://southamptonfc.com/news/2017-07-14/harry-lewis-new-southampton-contract-dundee-united-loan

We seem to be getting a bit short on the keeper front (obviously this loan was planned), assuming Gazza does go as well. Can only think one of the U18s is set to step up to the u23s/u21s, Adam Parkes presumably. With Taylor a non-playing keeper any issues with Forster or McCarthy (like last season) and we will be even more short of backup than last term.

Finished 1-1 with Dundee United winning 4-3 on penalties. Two saves in the penalty shoot out. Made a couple of decent saves during the game, no chance with the Dundee goal but did look poor in his decision making when coming for crosses. Kicked pretty well with both feet when he needed to. Hopefully he'll get plenty of game time in the Championship which will do him good.

Yeah of course. Means it hurts, he's thinking about his game. Not ****ing it up at the local clubs like so many airhead players. Stop being so obtuse.

You know there is a middle ground between" sitting in the dark ignoring phone calls" and "****ing it up at the local clubs"? Those are two extremes and neither is good.

Sitting in a dark room ignoring phone calls from your mother is "responding in the right way"? :?

Promoting self-reliance, mental strength, being self-critical, continually looking to improve, challenging himself, working hard to get better, keeping perspective, etc. Not being a mummy's boy and crying about it. Would expect that from a professional; wouldn't you?

We have definitely messed up the keeper situation.

As it stands we will have 3 senior keepers still at the club til at least January. Highly likely that we have pissed off Gunn (who may have a longer term future at Saints) to reintegrate Forster (who most certainly won't).

Lewis has obviously been given a contract extension as was OOC in the summer - but is miles and miles off ever being a PL keeper. Once he had the season playing games in Scotland he needed to keep being loaned out and getting real football, and the next two seasons messing around in the U23s probably harmed his career long term.

Tommy Scott was signed from Yeovil seemingly to make up  the numbers in the U23s after two others were signed in similar circumstances in recent seasons - Jack Rose and Kingsley Latham - both of whom have been released.

Hopefully there is a good one in the Academy because for about the last 3 years the U23s have played with one who had approximately 0% chance of making the step up at Saints. Bizarre.

That’s pretty much it. Your point re Lewis lack of loans hampering his career is spot on, and applies to many of our younger players. We’ve had a lot of talented youngsters who’ve not developed because of a lack of football. Lewis is a very good keeper, and I never saw what Gunn gave us that Lewis couldn’t as for me Lewis has no less potential. Hopefully Lewis will get first team football this year as sitting here as 4th choice will do him no favours.

Don’t disagree with any of that — Think Latham is still here, though.

Disagree with Gunn. I’m sure he’d be happier playing first team football for a championship club rather than sat on our bench, and will hopefully come back a better player

Lewis is absolute dross. When he gets released at the end of the season he will struggle to find a club in the EFL.

If McCarthy and Forster are out for all of December we are in big trouble and hopefully would look at a free agent.

Emergency loans only apply if the club has lost ALL of it's first team keepers, I assume Lewis is registered as a first team player.

Free Agents can be signed if (a) we have a 'free' registration slot in our 25 man roster and, (b) they left their previous club before the last window closed.

( I think )

EDIT: how match fit would a free agent be ?

First thing Monday then, the training ground tactic should be for someone to nobble Lewis.
