VectisSaint Posted 10 January, 2009 Posted 10 January, 2009 Cork was on loan here; he's now on loan at Watford. As far as I know, loan players are paid what they would be paid by their parent club if they weren't on loan. After all, their contract is with their parent club; the loan is simply an arrangement between the two clubs. If this is the case, then Cork will be earning exactly the same at Watford as he was here, and as he would be if he were at Chelsea and not on loan. The only potential monetary difference would be what proportion of his wages Watford are paying, compared to what we were paying. Not neccessarily true. Clubs who take a player on loan can also pay incentives (win bonuses for instance). He probably thought I don't get any win bonuses at Saints so lets try Watford instead (OK, so he got it wrong this week). Also I would guess that Watford is closer to home that Southampton, so less travelling and no staying in hotels all week.
NickG Posted 10 January, 2009 Posted 10 January, 2009 all we know for sure is that he spoke positively about his time here, and the club didn't shun him but wanted him to stay. He didn't. Whether this was down to lack of our persuasive abilities and therefore open for criticism or down to location or knowing their manager (obviously outside of our control) and therefore not open to criticism we don't know.
saintwarwick Posted 10 January, 2009 Posted 10 January, 2009 Which ever way you look at it we did not do enough to convince this seasons second best player to stay and ****ty piece of management by our chairman/board/coach as per normal... To say Watford wanted me more proves we did not prove or show we wanted him enough... Why, because we couldn't pay more than Watford? That's not ****ty management but careful planning when you don't have a pot to **** in.
NickG Posted 10 January, 2009 Posted 10 January, 2009 that's what gets depressing here -enough to criticise the manager and board over without making up/ filling in gaps to find things to moan for the sake of it
ALWAYS_SFC Posted 10 January, 2009 Posted 10 January, 2009 Why, because we couldn't pay more than Watford? That's not ****ty management but careful planning when you don't have a pot to **** in. Here we go again...Money was not mentioned just that Watford wanted him more. Like i said you believe what you like and i will believe what i like...
Gorgiesaint Posted 10 January, 2009 Posted 10 January, 2009 Here we go again...Money was not mentioned just that Watford wanted him more. Like i said you believe what you like and i will believe what i like... He's hardly likely to turn up at Watford and say 'I'd really prefer to be at Southampton' is he? He'd already stated that he was happy here so I wouldn't read too much into his comments given that he now has a chance to play his football closer to home & work with a manager who he has worked with previously.
CB Fry Posted 11 January, 2009 Posted 11 January, 2009 Could not give a flyin` about Defoe... After all the ******** that come out of this club i choose not to believe what they say very much and took the players view over the club and still do. Its all about opinions mush, you have yours,i have mine so get the f u c k over it. It's not even about "believing the club" though, is it. You don't have to believe a word the club says to see why Cork is now at Watford, especially as Cork doesn't actually say a single negative thing about Saints not wanting to keep him. It's people like you, with a failure to understand the English language and the basics of football business, who have put a load of thoughts in Jack Cork's head that aren't there, but suit your own preformed opinions. Or do you seriously think that a Watford signing, on a Watford Official Website interview is going to bang on about how he didn't want to leave his previous club.

With resepect to the understanding of the english language and football business and you obviously more of an expert than us.. We all when it boils down to it believe what we want unless given undeniable proof..correct? Until then it is all about opinions and debate on which a forum is based. I have given mine you have given yours so that is about it really, don`t you think? Or do you just have to have the last word? Either way i don`t mind as i have finished with the subject.
NickG Posted 11 January, 2009 Posted 11 January, 2009 sometimes useful to base opinion on a few facts?!
sadoldgit Posted 11 January, 2009 Posted 11 January, 2009 Our defence has been pants to date so losing one player from that unit, no matter how good, does not have to be a bad thing. The changes might work in a favour and it is encouraging that the defence sounded more solid yesterday. As for a last minute thing Alpine, apparently the "Dutchie" as you call him has been tracked since the summer, so maybe, just maybe, the club do have back up plans and do not just do things on the fly as you seem to think? Whilst is it very easy to sit behind a comuter keyboard and slag people off, the wrist slitters amongst us also have to realsie that managers/coaches have got a really tough job. If the squad isn't right in August or if you lose key players through injury (as we have done) you have to struggle through half a season before you can do much about it. Then come january you can be left with a situation that you lose some of your "better" players and have to regroup. Despite the stick that JP gets for his lack of experience in CCC football, he is doing as well as a number of managers with experience (and he did better than one very experience Prem manager who has since lost his job!). Hopefully, given time, JP will turn out to be a very good manager for us and if the latest changes to the defence mean more clean sheets in this half of the season, then losing Cork will have had a positive effect on the club.

Like i said you believe what you like and i will believe what i like... So if it was you, would you say that Watford offered you more money? We told him we wanted him to stay, what else could we have done? He obviously has other reasons for moving so fair play to him. Shame about the negative spin but then you get used to that here with so many people wanting to pull the club down from within.

If it was a financial issue I expect the club would have said so, it certainly would reflect better than "didn't want him enough". There has been nothing said that suggests Watford are paying more than Saints, I expect in this sort of deal the club just pays the players wages and that probably wouldn't change unless he got a new contract anyway. I doubt there was any loan fee for giving a kid a run out.
