Johan Cruyff

In principle I like to use five lines, excluding the goalkeeper: the back 4, a central midfielder playing from the back, 2 wide midfielders outside him pushing forward, one striker playing deep or up front and 2 attackers on the wings.

Does that sound similar to the philosophy of anyone we know?

Johan Cruyff liked an attacking brand of football, however in order to attack you have to defend by pushing forward and putting pressure on the ball. To create as many lines as you can.

In my opinion we aren't far away from everything clicking. A few players don't fit the system or have struggled to adapt to the system.

We need to defend higher, but loss of possession in dangerous areas will expose us.

Allow Puel the time to solve the problems and keep the faith.

Imagine a new mountain bike, it takes time to adjust to the bike and the you ride the more in tune you become, but then the bike needs a service. To adjust the loose chain, breaks... we have reached this moment.

Keep the faith good times are around the corner!

Not unless Puel fundamentally changes the way he asks our midfield to play. He doesn't deploy midfield runners or encourage them to push forward. He expects the front three to do the attacking and the midfield to contain.

We don't set up anything like a Cruyff team.

Really how about

the back 4 Soares Fonte VVD Bertrand

a central midfielder playing from the back Romeu

2 wide midfielders outside him pushing forward Davis Claisie

One striker playing deep or up front Jrod

2 attackers on the wings Redmond Boufal.

That's not true at all.

A lot of teams don't try to set up with five lines, as described.

Instead of making banal guesses, try engaging your brain.

I read the opening sentence (as you suggested)

a bank of 4 defenders, a holding midfielder, play from the back, 2 central midfielders next to him, a striker moving around and two wide attackers.

yep, definitely not a popular set up at all. Just us (and Cryuff's Ajax)...that play a 433 with one holding midfielder that plays out from the back.

Exactly. Vs west brom the other day, we had the ball on the by line. all players on the field in the west brom half, they were all within 30yards of their goal bar the striker.... and we had no one in the box.

Clueless.
