andysstuff Posted 25 December, 2016 Posted 25 December, 2016 Jesus what a year. Roll on 2017. Sent from my D6603 using Tapatalk
TopGun Posted 25 December, 2016 Posted 25 December, 2016 Very sad, not a bad man but so many problems. Almost fitting he died on Christmas Day though.
Lighthouse Posted 25 December, 2016 Posted 25 December, 2016 'Wake me up before you go go' was the first single I ever owned. Parents bought it for me on a cassette when I was about 5. Massively talented musician but was clearly battling a few demons and health issues.
LVSaint Posted 26 December, 2016 Posted 26 December, 2016 Can everyone just stay indoors now, wrapped up, pop aspirin and stay away from sharp objects now for the next six days.... Anus horribilis 2016
5string Posted 26 December, 2016 Posted 26 December, 2016 Goodness, another popular icon gone! I liked some of his stuff; no doubt he was a talented fella. RIP George. Hopefully 2017 can redress the balance of decent folk who have passed in 2016. I can provide a request list...
shurlock Posted 26 December, 2016 Posted 26 December, 2016 Can everyone just stay indoors now, wrapped up, pop aspirin and stay away from sharp objects now for the next six days.... Anus horribilis 2016 Freudian slip? Not a real fan of his music but rip.
jasonb Posted 26 December, 2016 Posted 26 December, 2016 Listen without prejudice was a good album and proved his songwriting credentials extended beyond the pop of Wham! Odd f****** year for sure.
Gunnery Posted 26 December, 2016 Posted 26 December, 2016 Just goes to show that one minute you're skipping through life and then suddenly WHAM it's all over...
John Boy Saint Posted 26 December, 2016 Posted 26 December, 2016 Nobbles the Jay Rodriguez song a little if he goes on a little run now after the brace at Bournemouth.
Miltonaggro Posted 26 December, 2016 Posted 26 December, 2016 His best years being the partnership with Ken Monkou in the early 90s.
Andy Durman Posted 26 December, 2016 Posted 26 December, 2016 Thanks 9-3 for informing the forum of this very sad news. A very sad loss to the music industry. I grew up with his music always in the background of my life. As a Saints fan this news is relevant to me.
davefoggy Posted 26 December, 2016 Posted 26 December, 2016 Gutted. Status Quo and Wham gone in a couple of days. Music of my youth
saintadam Posted 26 December, 2016 Posted 26 December, 2016 Lets take tree points on Wednesday For Michael. Hm...
Saint_clark Posted 26 December, 2016 Posted 26 December, 2016 Southampton 'Football' Club It's related, there'll be a minutes silence on Wednesday.
CB Fry Posted 26 December, 2016 Posted 26 December, 2016 (edited) It's related, there'll be a minutes silence on Wednesday. I've heard they set up a George Michael shrine near one of the corner flags, but then as a mark of respect moved it to a different one. Edited 26 December, 2016 by CB Fry
buctootim Posted 26 December, 2016 Posted 26 December, 2016 It's related, there'll be a minutes silence on Wednesday. There was sixty minutes silence last match. No respect.
Gemmel Posted 26 December, 2016 Posted 26 December, 2016 I've heard they set up a George Michael shrine near one of the corner flags, but then as a mark of respect moved it to a different one. Ha ha Very good. Incredible singer and songwriter, but not without his demons. Hope he has found his piece.
Charlie Wayman Posted 26 December, 2016 Posted 26 December, 2016 Can everyone just stay indoors now, wrapped up, pop aspirin and stay away from sharp objects now for the next six days.... Anus horribilis 2016 What are you talking about?
LVSaint Posted 27 December, 2016 Posted 27 December, 2016 You're probably going to tell me that people die and bad things happen every year aren't you.... It's been an arse of a year.
whelk Posted 27 December, 2016 Posted 27 December, 2016 Do celebrity deaths really impact people that much to spoil their year? Undoubtedly some terrible deaths and they do shock us all but unless you personally know then any sadness surely passes quickly. I get fed up reading tweets '2016 can fck off' '2016 can do one' etc.
Batman Posted 27 December, 2016 Posted 27 December, 2016 Watching BBC breakfast yesterday. 1 presenter was listening to George Michael on the way in on the train and cried all the way. Never knew him but music inspired her in her youth.
OttawaSaint Posted 27 December, 2016 Posted 27 December, 2016 Was he a Saints fan? Thought he'd be Fulham them being the cottagers after all...

I get fed up reading tweets '2016 can fck off' '2016 can do one' etc. Unless you were an uberfan of any of the departed then no, I don't see celeb deaths spoiling people's year. The two that I felt sad about were Bowie and Rickman eleven months ago. Only because I was a fan of them and they had more to give and I'll miss witnessing them do it. Didn't spoil my year. Since the sixties, the notion of the celebrity exploded in music, TV and film. Massive pool of household names now, available to us on demand. Naturally then, more and more are going to pop their clogs every year and it appears that the Grim Reaper is having a grand old time. 2017 will probably be told to 'fck off' as well...
rallyboy Posted 27 December, 2016 Posted 27 December, 2016 I don't know why people follow football, unless they know the players personally they have no right to enjoy a victory or to be disappointed at a defeat.
whelk Posted 27 December, 2016 Posted 27 December, 2016 I don't know why people follow football, unless they know the players personally they have no right to enjoy a victory or to be disappointed at a defeat. You are being facetious and not saying people aren't genuinely upset. But it is not the same as grief of losing a loved one.
Jonnyboy Posted 27 December, 2016 Posted 27 December, 2016 Do celebrity deaths really impact people that much to spoil their year? Undoubtedly some terrible deaths and they do shock us all but unless you personally know then any sadness surely passes quickly. I get fed up reading tweets '2016 can fck off' '2016 can do one' etc. How do you know the celebrity deaths aren't compounding other sh*t things that have happened in people's lives? A tragic event that everyone can relate to can allow someone to vent their internal grief publicly without shame. Perhaps just as going to the footie and screaming "Guly you useless cvnt!" can help alleviate some of the stresses built up from other more serious aspects of peoples' lives.
whelk Posted 28 December, 2016 Posted 28 December, 2016 I don't. But can compare with what gets levelled against the scousers for the mawkish grief with a lot of online behaviour and throwaway 'RIP's. I actually loathe the likes of Hopkins who gets angry at the outpouring of grief - well who knows with her as needs to be a contrarian to actually maintain any publicity. Don't think any thing wrong with saying you are upset, saddened or shocked just debating how deep or lasting it can be i.e. spoiling your year.
benjii Posted 28 December, 2016 Posted 28 December, 2016 The SMS toilets are closed today as a mark of respect so make sure you have a tinkle before leaving the pub.

shurlock Posted 28 December, 2016 Posted 28 December, 2016 (edited) He lived just round the corner from me; the tributes at his gaff are taking on princess di proportions, though I guess ***** with selfie sticks didn't exist back then. Edited 28 December, 2016 by shurlock
