Barnsley v Saints - Post match reaction

What a **** game of football. Both teams were really bad but Barnsley were slightly less bad than we were. We had two big let offs in the first half so to get in 0-0 at half time we were lucky.

The second half was the same as the first with Barnsley slightly edging it for the first 20 or so minutes. Saints then started to have a bit more of the ball and were less **** than Barnsley. We then scored and JP then swapped from a 442 to 5 in midfield. I expected this to result in us coming under the cosh for the last 10 minutes, but as it happened Barnsley were just too **** to test us.

That all said WE WON and despite my analysis I WENT HOME HAPPY.

LOL at the pathetic piissing contest "I'm a better fan than you" cokk swinging.........

As usual Alpine, you cant see the positive side of anything. The point was: 3000m up in the snow, but unlike your normal negative rant, it was a positive posting. So a true Apline Saint??? In my opinion yes!!

heard nothing all week except the need for Saga. He did **** all by the way, yet its McGoldrick that is still slated. Get off the lads back. He's 22 and only 30 games into his Saints career.

Great result today, thought we deserved that little bit of luck tha turned what could easily have been a defeat into a win. After stuffing Reading and only getting a point I think we deserved a change of fortune.

Great days. Perhaps if more travelled away from home and saw us win then this board would be a better place for it.

So if LeTissier or Shearer or Moran had been so spectacularly shiiite 30 games into their Saints careers, would they're respective managers have continued with them.

She didnt write " a true alpine saint", she wrote "the true alpine saint".

Its was a dig and you f**king know it.

Besides, she's in Italy so its more accurate for her to say Dolomite Saint

To be fair Alpine - I know Suewhistle and she isn't the sort to score cheap shots - I think the remark to be very tongue in cheek, mate.

Just got back, the two new guys were pretty good, especially the Dutch fella, although he did make one shocking error in the first half

However, overall we were pretty poor and saved by an incredible Kelvin Davis performance - he pulled off 4 or 5 amazing saves!! After the last one, I just knew we were going to pull off a smash and grab, and we did!

Well done to the 521 nutters up there, it was freezing but there was an incredible rendition of Woolston Ferry nonetheless!!!

Right, I'm off to defrost! :D

Somes up my day perfectly!

I particularly liked the "Swing Lowe" chants.

Oh and i'd agree about Kelvin Davis - he was fantastic once again - by far our best player, he's a bloody hero the way he's keeping us in the dogfight.

Dunc, maybe it is out of character (or I bring the worst out in her), but I have been on the receiving end of continual, though I admit infrequent, little digs from her. This is just the latest I've noticed.

Why in f**ks name does every fan have to conform to a fandom code of conduct ??

LOL, touchy! I wasn't, but I will claim more of a sense of humour! Besides, I was referring to the fact that earlier in the day I'd been up at over 11,000 feet. Sorry if you are such a tempting target to wind up, but when I wrote it I wasn't what I was thinking. Still, giggle.

Oh, and I've just seen a few of the other posts. Cheers Dunc et al.

I'm not in the Dolomites but the Italian Alps. Discussing somebody's quick forum post about whether they wrote 'a' or 'the' is taking the whole thing far too seriously. I'm in far too good a mood after a couple of days great snow, sun, superb off-piste and a Saints win to do the same. I can heartily recommend a positive outlook on life.;-)

I'm off to wash my ski-socks.

We seemed to manage a win without him, something we failed to achieve with him in the side for several games now.

One game:rolleyes:...and by accounts from those who were there a lucky one.

But for me a win is win however we get it.

Let`s hope we get some more starting against Donny.

No,but the difference now is that powers from above are telling

Portvliet that McG must play where as back then

such things did not take place.

Unless Portvliet actually thinks Mcg is worth his place,if this is the case

then the guy is more clueless than i first thought.

This is beginning to sound like the old Rasiak argument "Apart from scoring goals what else does he do?"

Saga has played one game..yep one...

McGoldrick has played virtually all season and is ****e every week and should not

be in the side.

Maybe that gives you a clue as to why.

he's still scored 9 league goals and we are only halfway through the season. Not bad for a raw youngster playing up front on his own.

is that right? a lot of forwards are happy with about 15 (would be our top scorer most seasons) so if he is on target for 18 odd that's pretty good return

He hasn't scored 9 league goals mate, 2 of his 9 or 8 where against Exeter.

1 vs Cardiff

1 vs Derby which wasn't even really his goal, Lallana knocked it over the line.

1 vs Norwich

1 vs Coventry

1 vs Preston

1 vs Reading

1 vs Barnsley

2 vs Exeter in the Cup

Still if he gets 15~ league goals it will be a decent total for a young player in a struggling team, really need Saga to get 10 or so in the remaining games for us to stay up though.

He does`nt even score many goals and does very little else...

Has any other player been given so many appearances while being so poor?

so you are comparing McGoldrick with MLT and Shearer, two of the best Premiership players ever? Tough audience. Let me remind you that that MLT, BT and others have all struggled for any sort of consistency in their earlier years. McGoldrick is no Shearer but I still think he shows promise and should be given more leeway by fans. I personally will continue to back him and with a bit of luck he will prove you all wrong.

yeah yeah and Kelvin is a crap keeper, and Fuller is s### and Marsden is only a 2nd division journeyman and MLT is a luxury and lazy.Ive heard it all before and DMG will turn out to be a very good player (not international class but will become a big transfer player in the next 3 seaons)

I seem to recall people saying the same thing about Surman, Davis, Fuller...

Good point, I recall MLT saying after he finished his career saying how he thought Chris Nicholl not plying him much and often dropping him made him lose confidence.

None of that crap was ever endorsed by me.

Heard it all before..well good for you.

The sooner someone considers him to be a big transfer the better but that

is not going to happen as many others realise he is utter rubbish...

I thought it was cold up there. I just had a look at the pictures on the BarnsleyFC link

Apart from kelvin none of our players wore gloves , threeof there players did. okay they may suffer from raynards, but be had three players wearing short sleeves, size, holmes and surman.

The only barnsley player was righter and he was wearing gloves.

Based on that analysis does that mean us softee southerners are now harder than our northern brethren?

Very pleased, didnt see that result coming at all.

Having not listened to the match and only put Sky Sports on for the last 20 minutes was amazed to see that we were still 0-0. The reporter at the match then said that it was all Barnsley and that we hadnt troubled their keeper all afternoon.

When we scored 5 mins later I think the whole of Sandhurst heard. When do we ever score against the run of play?? I then spent the next 15 mins nervously listening to sky until the final whistle.

After the awful week I have had, it was good to be able to raise a smile.

No but i bet you did...

Certainly glad we have got shot of the laziest player in Saints' history. McGoldrick needs to do more, but at least he leaves the centre circle now and then. Stern was actually extremely pacey but no Saints fan would know it as he just could not be bothered.

Most players that come through the ranks get much more support from their own fans.

I havent checked but I will bow to your info.Interestingly the goals have provided 14 points from those games, we only lost 1 of those games and that was in the last minute.

Still good considering our team and position.

After the game against reading, Lowe went into the dressing room and started talking to the players. I don't know what he said but it infuriated JP who began rowing with Lowe. He told Lowe to go upstairs to continue the row and they both left the players alone with their thoughts.

Since then we have added two players to our squad. Both in positions which were needed. Saga returning could also be a bonus. Saeijs coming over has surprised me, along with a few others, as it appeared we had no imput coming from JP.

Is it just Possible that JP has found the balls to tell Lowe to back off? He must have had some imput in the transfer as it has come from a league he knows. If so perhaps we will see another turn in our favour. I have seen how desolute he has looked recently as he wears his heart on his sleeve. He appeared to be a nice man but soft. Is it asking too much now for us to give him a chance? Especially if his row with Lowe was a threat of some kind or another.

As for McGoldrick. Give the lad a break. We need a solid ball winner so that Spiderman can be released to do his stuff where it hurts.None of our forwards will score many goals without a suitable service. The midfield gets runover week after week yet everyone blames the forwards for not scoring and defence for not defending. It is a team game.

I feel better today and hope to feel even better after Donny. Dare I mention Norwich in the same breath?

Keep the faith, we will get there in the end.

The problem with this defence of DMG is that you don't mention how many games he has actually played and how long he has been on the pitch for them. He has played 30 games of which only 1 was from the subs bench this season. His shooting stats are 44 shots on target and 39 off target. The next person in the shooting for us has 18 shots off target and that is Lallana. Meaning DMG is twice as likely to miss the target of th next guy on the list. In the league he has 7 goals from 27 games, he has played in every league game this season. That means he scores 1 goal almost every 4 games. Meaning his projected total for the season is 11.5 goals. Hardly prolific is it considering he has played more games and more minutes then everyone except Davis. Surman has scored 5 league goals, only 2 less then DMG, if he was put up front i bet he would score more goals then DMG.

DMG is up there with the worst strikers i have ever seen play football for any club let alone ours. He will never be a top striker unless he changes his style of play but he is too arogant to do that, Holmes deserves the credit for our goal yesterday, he did all the hard work.

wright in oakley out

bwp in blackstock out

pele in...err ffs

Yes, because AT THE TIME Rasiak and Jones were first choice. He asked to leave because he wanted guaranteed football week in, week out.

As for Oakley, it was clear that he had lost all passion for the club.
