Ice Hockey too - 82 games a season (often back to back games) in a sport that is much more physical and demanding than Football - they seem to manage fairly well

In a game played in a much smaller area, with only 6 aside, and a squad of roughly the same amount of players.

And the games are half an hour shorter with 2 breaks instead of just one.

And I'd disagree that it's anymore physically demanding, other than the occasional fight.

And with the line changes each shift lasts approx 45s-1m with stars playing about 25 mins a game.

Top left bad and unlucky , top right good and lucky , bottom right good and unlucky, bottom left bad and unlucky (I think)

Yeah this - if you look at teams that a furthest to the right they are the best, based on his model. Doesn't tie in with the popular narrative round here that we are really bad!

Ive seen quite a lot of statistical analaysis rating us really highly.

It shows we are the third most unlucky team in the PL.

Perhaps we can get lucky in 2017 and improve our league position

What is the y axis representing?

For fear of being slightly, but unintentionally, patronising to [largely] intelligent people, I hope this helps:

The vertical [y] axis represents how good each team is (based on current league position). Right of the line, you're good. Left of the line, you're not.

The horizontal [x] axis represents how lucky each team is, on balance. The 'luck' line, if you will. Above the line, you get more good luck than bad luck. Below the line, more bad than good luck.

So, Burnley are lucky not to be bottom because, being above the x axis they have more good luck than bad luck.

Swansea, it could be argued, are where they are in the league partially because they are really unlucky (a long way below the 'luck' line).

Chelsea, Spurs & especially Arsenal get more than their fair share of good luck.

We're doing pretty well despite being pretty unlucky.

Man City should be a million points ahead of everyone else because they're (apparently) the 2nd best team, despite being the most unlucky.

It's an interesting scatter graph, but I couldn't find anything which explains what merits being called 'luck', good or bad.

I think Poch's stock has risen amongst Saints fans since the end of last season for one particular reason - he isn't Ronald Koeman.

I don't think they've acted all that differently to be honest? I mean Poch had the usual to say after joining a new club "huge, great fans, etc etc" and Koeman is doing exactly the same.

They're both modern managers and this is the done thing, (don't get me wrong I will continue to irrationally loathe the buggers).

Koeman was dishonest. He said he was staying then left - and with a record of criticising money-chasers to boot. Pochettino just dodged the questions, which is the right way of going about it if you want to leave. He's a good guy and so is Koeman, but the latter did not treat us well at all and deserves stick for it.

not sure how it happened but I'm sure you've stated the wrong axis and dimension in each case but everything else looks about right.

You made me doubt myself, so I checked. I Googled it & found this:

"The x-axis is a horizontal line and the y-axis is a vertical line."

Big 'phew' from me :D

no I mean the good is measured on the x axis, from left to right with the y axis intersecting at 0 on x and vice versa.

vice versa isn't the right word, is it.

i should spell it out.

bad/good is measured on the x axis with values ascending from bottom (unlucky) to top (lucky), and the y axis intersects with the x axis at 0 or neutral

unlucky/lucky is measured on the y axis with values ascending from bottom (unlucky) to top (lucky), and the x axis intersects witht he y axis at 0 or neutral

Bugg'red up in my post, didn't I? Blooming maffs! I think most got the idea of the chart, whether the explanation is good or [as in my case] not.

Anyway, here's hoping our good play continues against Spuds, maybe with a dose of good luck, too.

Given the ridiculous fixture schedule (3 games in 6 days) there is no doubt the line up v WBA will differ massively from the one that starts tonight. The line up tonight will then repeat itself v Everton barring any injuries/suspensions. Norwich cup game will see mixture of WBA lineup and youngsters play.

6pts from 9 would be decent return imo.

6 points from three games would be an excellent return for us in any run of three league games. 6 or more from these three would be fantastic.
