Wot not proper Christmas schedule?

I've only just realised that we're not playing next Saturday, no one is.

The frittering away of the proper Christmas schedule is happening by stealth, then. Saturday/Monday/Saturday is the bare minimum I'd expect in Christmas week.

This is how it should be IMO - the Christmas schedule is the Becher's Brook of the Premier League season and shouldn't be watered down.

Poor show.

Well, at least this means England will definitely win the world cup now, or something.

Happy Bloomin' Christmas.

(....waits for MLG to say this year is the same as the last decade.....)

Still bang out of order not having a Boxing Day game.

I thought getting dicked around last Boxing Day with a 19:45 kick off was bad enough (smashing Arsenal did temper the ire quite a bit at the end of the day) but no bloomin game for us this Boxing Day!!!!! Grrrrrrrrrrr.............. Bah! Humbug!!

I think you will find that its 50 years since any top-flight games were played on a Saturday Xmas Eve. And then there were only a couple.

Interesting.

I say bring back the old tradition of a match on Christmas Day then the return fixture on Boxing Day.

Also weird to have such a long spell without a game and then play Wed, Sat, Mon.

Will have to pick 10 different players for the Saturday game you would imagine as a one day gap between WBA and Everton is surely not doable.

Everton have an extra day than us to prepare for it too. Terrible schedule of games, will mean youth players coming up though which I'm happy to see.

And are at home. Its really poor scheduling and will have a say in the result most likely.

Tbf we've just played every midweek for 5 weeks, and we're playing 28th, 31st, 2nd, 7th, 11th, 14th in Dec/Jan, we could do with a break.

Which is also the reason I'm not saying "Puel will stop rotating soon" when I'm saying "we've been playing loads of matches which is why Puel is rotating". Because we don't get a week off between games again until 14th-22nd Jan, and even then we might have an FA Cup replay on 18th.

What is don't get is why most teams at home on Boxing Day are also at home on New Years Eve. Would be p1ssed off if we didn't have home game as no other fixtures in between those dates.

I think the matches to compare are the "bank holiday" matches - clubs should have one of, but not both, of the Boxing Day/NYD (Monday) matches at home.

Our fixture list this year is a bit weird.

Home on opening day, last day, "boxing day", and new year eve.

Seems a bit unusual. I think our fixtures are decent though. We got a lot of the difficult aways done early on and don't have a really bad run at any point.

Seems a little unfair on us this Christmas period.

It does impress, when you see the fixtures presented like that, what a significant difference points won and lost due in part to match fatigue could make to final placings. Looks very good for Chelsea with the most rest and matches nicely spaced out and with their big squad and no euro matches. For the clubs with smaller squads and less rest, Christmas could be crucial to whether or not they stay up. We always knew this but it does bring home what a lottery fixture scheduling is. We can only trust that scheduling is entirely random but for the effect of televised matches. Only plus for Saints at the bottom of the table there is the later start to the Christmas campaign. You can see right there the 3 days off they've been given.
