Pelle - from villan to hero...all without kicking a ball...

I was a big fan of Pelle, he had his shortcomings but I felt he had a really good eye for goal and a great understanding with Tadic.

Lately, with our scoring woes a few on here have been lamenting the loss of Pelle.

Here's a look back at a couple of threads from last season where he wasn't always that appreciated...funny how things change.

Nothing has changed at all though.

The same sad tarts are picking their new hate target while most people just accepted with Pelle as with our current players they are not perfect at everything.

This season Redmond is well in the firing line.

So, we can expect said tarts to be yearning for the days of red-hot Redmond in the 19-20 season? LOL.

The lack of Pelle just highlights that our (recent) years of success have been with a larger player up top who can put themselves about against the defence and hold the ball up to play off of. We're doing ok this season but without Austin (or Pelle, Lambert etc.) our attack looks directionless.

Just annoying that we have no strikers who feed off crosses given the amount we put in the box. Pelle would be almost perfect playing in this system.

This x 1000000. We haven't changed our playing style to suite not having a big man up top. Cross after cross goes in and there's nobody there to get near them...

Hm, I'm still not convinced about Austin. He'd look at his best in a 4-4-2. I don't like him as a central striker as whilst he's a decent finisher and certainly not bad in terms of heading the ball (if he can get himself a free header - a bit like Long), his hold-up play isn't actually that impressive. I don't see him as a striker who's going to hold off a defender with his back to goal, take it on his chest and lay it off - certainly not the way Lambert or Pelle could.

Carrol has made a career out of being able to do this. Not doing it, just being able to.
