OttawaSaint Posted 15 December, 2016 Share Posted 15 December, 2016 I was a big fan of Pelle, he had his shortcomings but I felt he had a really good eye for goal and a great understanding with Tadic. Lately, with our scoring woes a few on here have been lamenting the loss of Pelle. Here's a look back at a couple of threads from last season where he wasn't always that appreciated...funny how things change. http://www.saintsweb.co.uk/showthread.php?55180-Without-Pelle&highlight=Pelle http://www.saintsweb.co.uk/showthread.php?53829-Pelle&highlight=Pelle
Mallagroth Posted 15 December, 2016 Share Posted 15 December, 2016 Nothing has changed at all though. The same sad tarts are picking their new hate target while most people just accepted with Pelle as with our current players they are not perfect at everything. This season Redmond is well in the firing line.

Nexstar Posted 15 December, 2016 Share Posted 15 December, 2016 The lack of Pelle just highlights that our (recent) years of success have been with a larger player up top who can put themselves about against the defence and hold the ball up to play off of. We're doing ok this season but without Austin (or Pelle, Lambert etc.) our attack looks directionless.

Saint Garrett Posted 15 December, 2016 Share Posted 15 December, 2016 Just annoying that we have no strikers who feed off crosses given the amount we put in the box. Pelle would be almost perfect playing in this system.

Cross after cross goes in and there's nobody there to get near them...

I don't like him as a central striker as whilst he's a decent finisher and certainly not bad in terms of heading the ball (if he can get himself a free header - a bit like Long), his hold-up play isn't actually that impressive. I don't see him as a striker who's going to hold off a defender with his back to goal, take it on his chest and lay it off - certainly not the way Lambert or Pelle could. Carrol has made a career out of being able to do this. Not doing it, just being able to.

Turkish Posted 17 December, 2016 Share Posted 17 December, 2016 One of the best quotes about him was from batman a few weeks ago "I never rated Pelle but at least he scored goals" Mongboardery at its finest
Shropshire Saint Posted 17 December, 2016 Share Posted 17 December, 2016 The one player that would fit our current 'system' with his goal scoring ability, versatile enough to play anywhere across the front line, bring others into play and drop back when needed is of course the Ricky Lambert of 5 years ago. supersonic Posted 17 December, 2016 Share Posted 17 December, 2016 Funny how people are now talking about him with our struggle for goals at the time of the year where he'd go 3 months without scoring...
