SuperSAINT Posted 12 December, 2016 Share Posted 12 December, 2016 Betfair @Betfair Southampton failed to score in the first-half for the 10th time in the Premier League this season #MondayStat I have no idea if that's true, but that's a fairly incredible stat if it is. Mattio Posted 12 December, 2016 Share Posted 12 December, 2016 Pretty sure we've only scored twice at the Northam end this year so probably right!
benjii Posted 12 December, 2016 Share Posted 12 December, 2016 I have no idea if that's true, but that's a fairly incredible stat if it is. Is it? It feels like it might be. But is it? It means we've scored in the first half in a third of our matches. Is that unusual? What's the average number of goals scored in the first half by teams this season? How many teams have failed to score in the first half 9 times (assuming 10 is the most)?

Pass the Dutchie Posted 12 December, 2016 Share Posted 12 December, 2016 Maybe Pass The Dutchie can check on that compared to last season. Last season it took us 17 PL games to reach 10 games without a first half goal (failing to do so 6 games in a row at that point, in game 12-17). We ended that season having failed to score in the first half 19 times.

benjii Posted 12 December, 2016 Share Posted 12 December, 2016 Haha! Very good. Certainly at home, it is annoying that we haven't scored in the first half more often.

The Everton tempo is what we need. I also remember us battering Swansea for periods too. (But only won both games 1-0).
Pass the Dutchie Posted 12 December, 2016 Share Posted 12 December, 2016 Last season we scored a total of 59 PL goals: Home: 39 goals (1st half: 18 / 2nd half: 21) Away: 20 goals (1st half: 8 / 2nd half: 12) We are currently 7 goals behind last season's schedule: Home: 8 goals (1st half: 1 / 2nd half: 7) Away: 6 goals (1st half: 4 / 2nd half: 2)
Saint_clark Posted 12 December, 2016 Share Posted 12 December, 2016 Doesn't surprise me, earlier in the season we were making a conscious choice to take it easy in the first half to conserve energy and then upping the performance massively in the second. Recently we just haven't looked like creating anything at all.

Saint_clark Posted 12 December, 2016 Share Posted 12 December, 2016 Puel out, he has no pashun innit ! Has anyone said that? He seems to have more passion than anyone we've had since Adkins.
Nordic Saint Posted 12 December, 2016 Share Posted 12 December, 2016 Pretty sure we've only scored twice at the Northam end this year so probably right! I think the away fans have quite a big influence on events on the pitch at their end, especially getting free-kicks for their team and yellow cards for ours, which is why away teams always seem more motivated kicking towards the Northam. Although the Chapel end is pretty quiet, at least it doesn't have away fans dominating it so our players obviously prefer attacking that end and so score more goals there.
