LaptopSaint Posted 5 December, 2016 Share Posted 5 December, 2016 I know it's only Lawrenson, but I do still wonder why we failed to get the best out of Gaston. I'll get me tin hat... Mark Lawrenson Former Liverpool defender on BBC Radio 5 live Posted at 21:43 Boro have just gone very, very negative. Gaston Ramirez has been the class act in a very poor game. egg Posted 5 December, 2016 Share Posted 5 December, 2016 We didn't play him enough and we did he wasn't given enough of the ball. It was as obvious that he was a class act who would bring so much more to our side than Redmond, and on current form Rodriguez and Long. Shame it didn't work out here. Pamplemousse Posted 5 December, 2016 Share Posted 5 December, 2016 He was given more than enough chances. He was rubbish for us. In a poorer side, of course he's going to stand out, but he was not and is not good enough for us.

In 4 years he did bugger all except for a couple of decent games against Villa and Newcastle. Didn't make much impact at Hull either.
stevy777_x Posted 5 December, 2016 Share Posted 5 December, 2016 Our style of play under Koeman didn t suit him. Our style of play under Puel probably would have suited him perfectly.

In a poorer side, of course he's going to stand out, but he was not and is not good enough for us. We brought him on when we were either 2 or 3 goals down, or defending a 1 goal lead with 10 men, with about 15 minutes to go and then played him out of position. He never got a proper run in the side.

saintwbu Posted 5 December, 2016 Share Posted 5 December, 2016 We had Lallana and then we had Tadic, there was never room in our side for two players of that nature. His class was always visible, but he'll frustrate, just like Boufal will. I hope our fans are more patient with Boufal than they were with Gaston. BotleySaint Posted 6 December, 2016 Share Posted 6 December, 2016 Possibly had the wrong attitude here. Wasted some years of his career. Is more determined to make something of it now. Anyhow - one good game against Hull. What else has he done this season so far?

Similar to when he was here.
Saint IQ Posted 6 December, 2016 Share Posted 6 December, 2016 The man, the myth, the enigma..The Legend! Gaston Ramirez. He might split opinions but surely no one can deny Boro got an absolute bargain picking him up on a free transfer.

James Posted 6 December, 2016 Share Posted 6 December, 2016 Was a lot better in his first season for us than a lot on here remember. If you watch the season review he scored a number of important goals. I remember when we were 3-1 up away at Stoke around Christmas the away end started singing "and we've still got Gaston on the bench." Not sure we'd have been singing that if he'd have been dog awful as the reviews on here would lead you to believe. It was Poch coming in that really did for him as he was nowhere near hardworking enough for a Poch team. We've moved on from him but as others have said he'd be a decent player in the current system. The tip of a diamond was always going to be his best position.

The9 Posted 6 December, 2016 Share Posted 6 December, 2016 He looks physically stronger now. Maybe that's what was missing. Maybe he's stopped constantly turning into the nearest defender by taking a touch too far from his body and then going in the same direction every time? He was too lightweight and too easy to lean off the ball. Also we weren't inclined to build the team around him at a time when workrate was at a premium, which Boro are a bit more likely to.
