I know it's only Lawrenson, but I do still wonder why we failed to get the best out of Gaston. I'll get me tin hat...

Boro have just gone very, very negative.

Gaston Ramirez has been the class act in a very poor game.

We didn't play him enough and we did he wasn't given enough of the ball. It was as obvious that he was a class act who would bring so much more to our side than Redmond, and on current form Rodriguez and Long. Shame it didn't work out here.

He was given more than enough chances. He was rubbish for us. In a poorer side, of course he's going to stand out, but he was not and is not good enough for us.

True, you can't say we never gave him a chance here. In 4 years he did bugger all except for a couple of decent games against Villa and Newcastle.

Didn't make much impact at Hull either.

We brought him on when we were either 2 or 3 goals down, or defending a 1 goal lead with 10 men, with about 15 minutes to go and then played him out of position.

He never got a proper run in the side.

Correct. How he's playing at Boro is how he could have played for us given a proper chance. Frustrating.

We had Lallana and then we had Tadic, there was never room in our side for two players of that nature. His class was always visible, but he'll frustrate, just like Boufal will. I hope our fans are more patient with Boufal than they were with Gaston.

This!! But people will still make out that he was some kind of football genius to fuel their anti-Redmond or whatever other agendas they have...

Possibly had the wrong attitude here. Wasted some years of his career. Is more determined to make something of it now.

Anyhow - one good game against Hull. What else has he done this season so far?

Flicking through the Boro forum it seems he's had a few decent spells, a few flashes but largely not much of note. Similar to when he was here.

Was a lot better in his first season for us than a lot on here remember. If you watch the season review he scored a number of important goals. I remember when we were 3-1 up away at Stoke around Christmas the away end started singing "and we've still got Gaston on the bench." Not sure we'd have been singing that if he'd have been dog awful as the reviews on here would lead you to believe. It was Poch coming in that really did for him as he was nowhere near hardworking enough for a Poch team.

We've moved on from him but as others have said he'd be a decent player in the current system. The tip of a diamond was always going to be his best position.

It's because he isn't good enough to get in our team. HTH.

He looks physically stronger now. Maybe that's what was missing.

Maybe he's stopped constantly turning into the nearest defender by taking a touch too far from his body and then going in the same direction every time? He was too lightweight and too easy to lean off the ball. Also we weren't inclined to build the team around him at a time when workrate was at a premium, which Boro are a bit more likely to.
