Been mentioned on here a fair few times over the years (Mostly by me) as one of the best goals seen live - But with no footage... Until now.

I have searched for this goal for years (Just to see if it was as a good as I remembered (It is) and it seems that within the last 12 months someone has finally put it up on You Tube.

The goal earned us a replay - Which we of course mucked up .... Steve Headband Foster.

So one for the oldies.... Enjoy.

It looked great that night even though it was at the other end. The referee did for us in the replay - in fact three quarter finals in a row we were denied by malicious refereeing - Luton, Oldham and Man U.

The other goal I would love to see was by MLT at Watford at the end of the 86/87 season. It may be the only goal of his that you can't see somewhere.

I have the official VHS video of the goals from that season - 88/89. But it is copy protected that prevents transfer to DVD. Videos of later seasons weren't protected.

Genuinely interested to know how this vid was protected against being copied onto a format that did not exist when it was made. Good goal btw.

Luton were a decent side in those days. They reached a few cup finals in that era. I remember reading beat the in the final of the Simod cup (remember that!) I'm sure they got to two league cup finals as well winning one and losing one and had a few good runs in the FA cup.

Was this the year where we lost 2-1 after extra time at the dell? We had a perfectly good goal disallowed with about 15 to go which would have put us 1-0 up.

We really do have a horrendous record in quarter finals, there can't be many teams who have reached so many over the years and failed to win so few.

I have spent for ever trying to find ruddocks penalty v Newcastle, same season I think ... 1-0 final minute Milton Road ..

That was off the back of a shocking run if memory serves, we hadn't won since Xmas or something stupid like that.

Also wasn't it that goal that effectively sent Newcastle down?

Seems like an absolute lifetime ago now, have to say though I really miss those days.

I broke my arm at that match. Stood on the Milton behind the goal with a barrier in front of me. When ruddock scored everyone went mental and in the surge my arm got smashed against the barrier.

Yep, we started the season really well then it all went to pot as we slid down the table around November time, went about 18-19 games without a win. This was heading for 0-0 then Rod Wallace got taken out by their keeper to give us a last minute penalty. Newcastle went down that season by some margin IIRC and we went on a bit of run and ended up finishing about 14th. That was also the season we broke our transfer record to sign Barry Horne from down the road. You could see that Nichol was starting to build a decent side but that run was horrendous, imagine the meltdown if that had happened now.

Just before half time? Was in the toilet

Nah pretty sure it was right at the end of the game, people were already streaming out the back of the Milton when he hit it. Can still remember the bodies piling back in when it went in. One of those goals that made you go "i'm never leaving a game early".

Yes definitely at the end. I could have sworn we won 2-1 in the end, But Horne's goal forced extra time and we went on to win 3 -2

FFS Tim Flowers :) :) :) :)

I seem to remember that there was some sort of scrambling. Ah yes I was right!

http://electronics.howstuffworks.com/question313.htm

I had a vhs recorder connected to a PC that saved the video and then burnt it onto the DVD. It worked fine on the goals videos from 91-92 onward, but on the 88/89 and 89/90 season videos when I came to burn the DVD I got an error message saying the original video. I tried all sorts of fiddling with settings and searching the internet but never got round it. Maybe nowadays the people that offer vhs to DVD copying services might be able to do it.

It might explain why nowhere on youtube can you find the assault by Paul Davis on Cockerill - but it is on that season's video.

I've got a Sony Hard Drive Recorder and the 88/89 VHS doesn't scramble the picture. I can do a DVD of it. The 89/90 and 90/91 ones are protected though.

The Paul Davis incident isn't on though - it just mentions it before showing the goals.

The Ruddock pen is on. I met him in a pub in Newcastle in 2003 and asked him about it.

Based on my accent he assumed I was a Newcastle fan so he said "Oh yeah, sent you ****s down, kept us ****s up"

I then pulled out my Saints wallet and told him it was one of the best days of my life (it's still up there) and he laughed and bought me a drink.
