I was thinking the same thing watching young Sims and even McQueen and Harry Reed (yes I know he's a DM, and a good one too) - would you really want that pair back on their massive wages and over inflated egos?

Theo left us over a decade ago to join a PL club with big prospects. Ox did likewise. Can't remember if we were promoted when Ox left. Both have achieved more than if they'd stayed here. What a weird thread.

Both ox and Walcott have won medals and played in bagful of champions league games

Regular finishes in top 4 plus England caps

If they stuck with us they'd have won promotion from league 1 and the championship oh and the JPT :>

No animosity towards either. They left in a different set of circumstances, and as I recall left with a fair degree of dignity. Unlike Nivea and Lovren.

I think what the OP might have been getting at is the present day players Ox and Theo may not offer much more (were they hypothetically back with us) than the early skills and potential of players like Sims and McQueen....throw in Hesketh etc.

It would have been pretty unfair on their careers if we had forced them to stay.

The point is nowadays we can offer European football played in an attacking progressive style - so we should be able to keep hold of our academy players for longer / ever.

Everyone do a MLT!

Ox won a runners up medal with us when we were promoted from L 1.

People still clapping Chamberlain when he came on last night. He played for the first team for a short space of time then buggered off to a big club at the first opportunity. Get over it.
